'55.  1st app. of Swanson's Garage, Proteus Horn.  1st romantic contact between Namor and Sue.  Thing reverts back to human (briefly) for the second time).  FF looking for Johnny.  Brief retelling of last issue when he quit the team.  Johnny ends up in a flophouse in the Bowery where he finds an amnesiac Sub-Mariner.  His memory revived by the Torch, Namor returns to his home (his people are not known as 'Atlanteans' here) and, mistakenly believing it's destruction was due to nuclear testing, turns on the human race siccing Giganto on NYC.  Giganto is killed with a nuclear bomb, and Namor falls for Sue (who isn't entirely unwilling).  Johnny sends Namor and Giganto back out to sea with a flame tornado, and Namor pledges to return at story end.  Cover claim shortened to "World's Greatest Comic Magazine".

Igor revealed to be a "Red" spy.  Betty encounters the Hulk for the first time, and Ross vows to find and destroy him.  Gargoyle kidnaps Hulk and Rick, takes them behind the Iron Curtain.  Banner cures the deformed Gargoyle, and the reformed monster helps them to escape before he blows himself up.

:    Origin of Doctor Doom.  1st app. of Latveria, Chrono Square, Doom's Castle (in upstate NY), and  Doom's robot duplicate.  Merlin mentioned for the first time in MU.  Johnny has a HULK #1 comic in the story.  Ben and Johnny's antagonistic relationship really begins to bloom.  Issue establishes the limits of Johnny's power.  Doom captures FF and holds Sue hostage, sending the team into the past to secure the Gems of Merlin.  Revealed that Ben was actually Blackbeard in the past.  Team returns with bogus treasure, and Ben destroys Doom, who turns out to be a robot.  Sue rescues the team, but Doom escapes with a rocket pack at story end.

Loki manipulates Heimdall to cause his release from where Thor had imprisoned him in the heart of a tree, goes to Earth looking to get revenge.  Lures his half brother to him, hypnotizes him, and tries in various ways to get him to discard his hammer.  Succeeds, but out of his sight, Thor reverts to Dr. Blake, removing the trance.  Thor chases Loki across NYC, finally defeats him by ducking him in the river, establishing that his magic is useless in water.  Thor returns him to Asgard where he is presented before Odin and the other Norse gods who are only seen from behind in one panel.  Story ends with Jane bubbling about how romantic the battle was.  3rd & 4th features are non-MU fantasy stories.

Ross has developed the Iceberg Missile to stop the Hulk.  After the use of the Gamma Machine (which leaves Banner very weak), Hulk now has Banner's brain.  In the second feature, 1st app. of foot controls for the Gamma Ray Machine.  Mongu comes to Earth with a challenge.    Hulk and Rick fly to the Grand Canyon to meet him.  Mongu revealed as a battle suit and the challenge nothing more than a Red trap for the Hulk.  Hulk defeats the soldiers but lets them go.  The press thinks its a hoax staged by Hulk to prove himself a hero.  Banner very weak after the change at story end.

:    1st full app. of Odin (see JiM #85).  Zarrko, a scientist from 2262, decides to rule the world, and returns to 1962 in his Time Cube to steal weapons.  Thor in a remote desert helping the military test new weapons.  Zarrko steals a Cobalt Bomb out from under Thor's nose and returns to the future.  Thor follows him using Mjolnir on the advice of Odin, and finds Zarrko has seized control of the weaponless society.  With the help of tone of the locals, Thor gains entrance to Zarrko's castle.  Time limit of 60 seconds established as amount of time Mjolnir can be out of Thor's hands before he reverts back to Blake.  Thor defeats Zarrko, who loses his memory, and returns to 1962 with the bomb.  At story end, Jane still coparing Blake to Thor unfavorably.  2nd and 3rd features are non-MU fantasy stories.

Namor starts a movie studio to take advantage of the teams vulnerability, lures them to Hollywood to kill them, ends up popping the question to Sue.  After all he has done, she refuses, but defends him against the rest of the team.  At story end, the movie is finished, the FF get their money, and Namor returns peacefully to the sea.  Various cameos including James Arness, Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, and Jackie Gleason.
