    "The Terrible Threat of the Living Brain!" "Spider-Man Tackles the Human-Torch!"

COM:    Mr. Petty of ICM brings the Living Brain to Peter's school. 1st and only app. of Living Brain. First time Mr. Warren's name is used. Flash breaks Peter's glasses; they end up in boxing match. Peter cold cocks Flash. Liz asks the Living Brain who Spidey really is, but the device gives the answer in code before going out of control. Spidey stops the robot. Flash accidentally stops the two culprits. For fun, Peter casts suspicion that Flash is Spidey. In the second feature, Fantastic Four Appearance. Torch shows off at Doris' house; he and Spidey are competing. By the end of the fight, Spidey's taking on the whole FF. The Invisible Girl beats him and then flirts with him at the end of the story.

    "The Avengers Meet....Sub-Mariner!"

COM:    Fantastic Four and X-Men appearances. First Namor cross-over. Teen Brigade appearance. Avengers looking for the Hulk. Iron Man uses image projector to question the FF, Spider-Man, X-Men. Rick uses the Teen Brigade to locate Hulk in the southwest, and leads him back to New Mexico. Avengers trying to capture him, but he escapes and runs into Namor, who briefly teams-up with him. Hulk becomes Banner and escapes, and at the end of the story Namor is allowed to escape, too.

    "The Return of the Mole Man!"

Reed testing Sue's powers to find they've been greatly expanded. People complaining about the FF, reported that their ICBM violates city zoning laws. Reed decides to conduct his experiments elsewhere, chooses upon an island off the NJ coast. MM captures the FF, explains what has occurred since their last encounter in FF1 #1. FF escape various traps. Reed rewires his detonators to sink his island instead of blowing up NYC and Moscow.

    "The Master Plan of Mr. Hyde!" "The Unreal" "Tales of Asgard: The Storm Giants"

COM: Dr. Blake and Jane on first date. Odin denies Thor's petition to make her an Immortal because of her interference in his subduing Hyde. Thor cleared of charges of bank robbery. Hyde gets away at the story end. 2nd feature is a non-MU fantasy story. In ToA: The Boyhood of Thor stories begin. Thor and Loki follow two Storm Giants, who had stolen the Golden Apples of Idunn, back to their castle in hopes of winning them back. Thanks to Loki, Thor is seen and attacked, but the god of lies saves him (and himself) by throwing wet leaves on the fire. They find the Apples on the back of Agnar, on whom they escape. At the story end, Thor gets the kudos (rewarded with extra strength to help wield the Uru hammer of Odin) because the All Father knows his boys better. Cover by Jack Kirby and George Roussos.

    "In the Clutches of the Puppet Master!" "Return to the Nightmare World!"

COM:    In Torch's feature: Fantastic Four appearance. First Thing solo cross-over. While he prepares a puppet of the Torch, Puppet Master recounts the events of how he escaped doom at the end of FF1 #14. he takes control of Johnny and send him romantically after Alicia, so Ben would get jealous and clobber him. Their strong friendship keeps the fight from becoming fatal, so PM needs to increase his power by moving closer to the fight-at the same time Alicia figures who is behind all this. At Idlewild Airport, where PM's last hideout is, she gets Johnny to drop a flaming blanket on her and her step dad, melting the puppet and breaking the spell. At story end, Alicia gets Ben to let her step father go. In Dr. Strange's feature: First mention of Hoggoth. Nightmare still seen mostly in shadow, creates a potion that enables him to bring people from the real world into his. Strange travels to the "source of evil" in his Astral Form, does battle with Nightmare. Strange tricks him with his amulet and rescues the three victims of his potion.     "The New Iron Man Meets the Angel!" "Strange Encounter" "Tales of the Watcher: The Saga of the Sneepers!"

COM:    Avengers and X-Men appearances. 1st X-Men X-over. 1st Avengers X-over. On the way back to Westchester, Angel flies over Stark Industries and is caught in a blast of a refined nuclear detonation, and it turns his mind evil. Iron Man tries to stop him, but when the Angel flies too high for his boot jets, he narrowly saves himself with his Magnetic Repeller. Angel quits the X-Men and wants to join the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and Prof. X doubting the safety of continuing with his team, calls the Avengers for help. Everyone else is busy except Tony, who stops the police, who are reacting to the Angel's TNT spree, and tries again to stop the teen. As a last ditch effort, Iron Man repeats their first encounter but does nothing to save himself. At the last moment, Angel comes out of it and rescues him, as planned. At story end, Prof. X is reassured about what he is doing with the team is right and the X-Men offer their service to him any time. In the 2nd feature: A two page text story about a strange encounter in France. In TotW: Tales of the Watcher stories begin. 1st app. of the Sneepers. Watcher tells a non-MU strange suspense story of the alien race who have been watching the Earth, coveting it as a potential conquest, but, because at the time, it was so primitive, they considered it below their effort to invade. They watch as the human race progresses and when mankind reaches the atomic age, the Sneepers decide it's only a matter of time before man conquers himself, and so continue to watch and wait.     "Showdown with the Human Top" "No Place to Turn" "Tales of the Wasp: Somewhere Waits a Wobbow!"

    "Beware the Blob!"

COM:    First time Cyclops real first name 'Scott' is used. All the males of the team fighting over Jean. Both Scott and Prof. X declare (in thought) their love for her. Jean leans toward Scott, but is swept off her feet by Warren. Cyclops locates the new mutant (Blob) at a local carnival. Prof. X tries to recruit him, even tests him at the mansion, but Dukes refuses and defeats the team on the way out. Prof. X working on a device that would allow him to wipe the memory of an entire crowd. Blob mobilizes the carnival to attack the Mansion. Cyclops beats the Blob for the first time by blasting the ground from beneath his feet. Prof. X wipes the attackers' memories and sends them back to the carnival at story end.

    "The Man Called Electro!"

    "The Master Plan of Doctor Doom!"

COM:    1st time Ben says: "It's Clobberin' Time!" 1st app. of the Terrible Trio. Yogi Dakor made fireproof by Doom. The FF transport Dooms Chrono-square to the Baxter Building, looking to elect a new leader. Doom collects the TT together to use against the FF, increases their powers a dozen fold by Doom's XZ-12 machine. FF gets captured separately. Doom sends the TT to another dimension, then gets tossed into outer space by his own trap. Team decides to keep Reed as the leader at story end.

    "The Return of Zarrko, the Tomorrow Man!" "The Enemies" "Tales of Asgard: Invasion of Asgard!"

COM:    Avengers appearance (w/o Cap). Thor on rampage to see Odin after he refused to make Jane an Immortal. Loki restores Zarkko's memeory of his last meeting with Thor (JiMI #86). At the story end, Thor agrees to return with Zarkko to the 23rd century to save 20th century Earth from his robot. 2nd feature is a non-MU fantasy story. In ToA: The Boyhood of Thor Pt. 2. Evil forces are approaching Asgard, and Thor, eager to do noble deeds, is tricked by Loki into protecting a hole in their defenses which he made and tipped off to the bad guys. The youthful godling faces most of their worst enemies (including a witch, a Troll, two wolf gods, a dragon, the last Ice Giants and two Rime Giants) and does his best, but gets changed into a tree just before the cavalry arrives. The villains are routed, and, at story end, Thor is able to life the hammer of Odin a bit higher still.

    "The Return of the Eel!" "The Many Traps of Baron Mordo!"

COM:    Fantastic Four appearance. In Dr. Strange's feature: Mordo sets a trap in the Sanctum Santorum, transporting Strange to a bizarre dimension. Strange seeks the culprit in his Astral form and is trapped again by Mordo. Mordo tries to attack the Ancient One, but Strange tricks him and defeats him by casting his own spell back at him. Ancient One gives Strange a ring that allows his Astral Form to do everything his mortal form can do.

She still won't admit what she's mixed up in, then leaves town (to Pennsylvania) without saying why. Foswell revealed as Big Man, and is arrested.

    "Captain America Joins....the Avengers!"

COM:    Teen Brigade appearance. Namor, directly from events last issue, finds a tribe of Eskimo praying to a body frozen in ice and causes it to fall into the ocean, where it begins to melt. The Avengers find the body and it turns out to be the original Cap, alive and unmasked. Brief first telling of Bucky's death and how he was frozen. 1st app. of Captain America I and Bucky I since Sept. '54.   Bucky and Zemo appear only in the WWII flashback. Cap and Rick team-up to save the Avengers from an unnamed alien who can turn people to stone (1st app. of the D'Bari-unnamed). The team helps the alien recover his ship and they run afoul of Namor again, who has armed Atlantean force with him this time. Namor leaves the team to die when the island breaks up. Cap voted in as a member. Rick worried what the Hulk will think when he finds out that he's been replaced by Cap. 1st modern app. of Cap's motorcycle.

    "The Infant Terrible!"

COM:    1st app. of the Elan. Alien creature comes to NYC, and the FF have to deal with its fantastic powers. Reed realizes that it's an infant. Big Joe kidnaps the alien and uses it to commit crimes. FF try to rescue it, but it goes on a rampage. Reed calls in the alien's parents, who collect the child and leave the planet peacefully at story end.

    "Slave of Zarrko, the Tomorrow Man!" "The Menace" "Tales of Asgard: Death Comes to Thor!"

COM:    Thor in 23rd century Earth, slave to Zarkko. Thor beats Zarkko without breaking his word. Thor uses Mjolnir to return to the 20th century, leaving Zarkko behind in a ball of "Semi-solid energy matter". 2nd feature is a non-MU fantasy story. In ToA: 1st app. of the Norns (Fates). 1st full appearance of Balder. The Boyhood of Thor Pt 3. Thor visits the three Fates (Norns) to find whether he will ever be rewarded his father's Uru hammer, and they tell him only after he has faced death. He returns to the golden city to find the Storm Giants have kidnapped Sif, and, without thinking, he takes the hammer to get her back. He finds that Rugga has given her to Hela in trade for her to make him immortal, and Thor offers his life for that of the girl. Hela can't bring herself to take such a noble life, and so, at the end of the story, Thor gains full possession of his hammer. Hela, Sif, and Balder very different from their later appearances.     "The Man Who Became the Torch!" "The Possessed!"

COM:    Fantastic Four appearance. Wizard breaks out of prison, captures Torch and masquerades as him. Also captures Invisible Girl, but both are rescued by the fest of the FF. Wizard uses his gravity disc to escape, but flies uncontrolled into the outer atmosphere at story end. In Dr. Strange's feature: 1st appearance of the Possessors. Strange travels to the mountains of Bavaria to investigate an evil "dark patch". A village is possessed by creatures from another dimension. Strange overcomes their leader and kicks them back to their own dimension and seals the portal. Cover by Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and George Roussos.

    "The Sinister Scarecrow!" "The Green Thing" "Tales of the Watcher: The Primitive"

COM:    Origin of the Scarecrow. Umberto helps IM stop a criminal, decides to lead a life of crime himself. Umberto later identified as Laughton. Pepper intentionally drives away one of Tony's women friends. Scarecrow robs Tony's penthouse, battles IM for the first time, ransoms the plans he stole back to Stark, tries to sell them to Cuban guerrillas. IM stops the transaction, but Scarecrow escapes. Stark overlooks Pepper's hots for him and pair her and Happy up at story end. 2nd feature is a non-MU strange suspense story. In TotW: the Watcher tells a non-MU strange suspense story.     "Trapped by the Porcupine" "Tales of the Wasp: When Wakes the Colossus!"

Tells a non-MU tale of the alien warlord, Mingo, who enslaves his people using superstition. He creates a stone colossus to keep them in check, but it comes to life and defeats his forces. In the end, Jan realizes that Hank hasn't been listening and storms out. Retelling of ToS1 #14? Cover by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky.

    "The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants!"

Magneto steals an ex-convoy freighter and sails it to his island HQ. SW and QS want to leave but Mags reminds them (for the first time) of their obligation to him. Mags attacks Santo Marco. Prof. X confronts him on a Mental Plane for the first time. Both first time in their Astral forms. Mags conquers SM with an illusion. The team comes to South America incognito. X-Men attack Mag's fortress. Prof. X is wounded protecting the team from a trap, loses hi mental abilities. QS stops a bomb from exploding, and the Brotherhood escapes at story end. Angel added to cover logo.

    "Turning Point"

COM:      1st use of Spider Tracker. Brief retelling of ASM #3. Ock is released from prison after serving his full term. Betty gets mixed up with Ock because of her brother. Spidey goes to Philadelphia. Betty spills the secret about her brother to Peter. Peter decides to tell Betty his secret ID. Ock breaks Blackie out of prison. 1st and only app. of Blackie. Spidey sprains his ankle. Death of Bennett Brant, who is shot while struggling with Blackie. Betty blames Spidey for the accident. By the story end, Peter realizes he can never tell Betty his secret without losing her.

    "The Origin of Daredevil"

Flashback to Matt as a boy promising his dad to study hard, neighborhood kids nickname him Daredevil. Jack goes to work for the Fixer. Matt struck blind by some "radioactive elements" while saving an old man, but his other senses are heightened incredibly. Foggy and Matt in college. Jack supposed to throw a fight but wins, and the fixer has him killed. Matt graduates, goes into business with Foggy, meets Karen for the first time. Matt becomes DD. Simplified diagram of his billy club workings. DD goes after those who killed his father. Fixer dies of a heart attack and Slade is turned over to the police at story end.     "The Hulk VS. the Thing!"

Reed has another formula to change Ben human again, but he refuses to take it because he's afraid Alicia won't love him as a human. Hulk returns to NYC. Reed collapses in his lab from a virus and is bedridden. Rest of the team takes on the Hulk. The Torch is hurt and hospitalized. Reed trying to help the team but too sick. Hulk beats the Thing and calls for the Avengers at story end. Story cont. in FF1 #26.

    "The Enchantress and the Executioner" "To Live Forever" "Tales of Asgard: Thor's Mission to Mirmir!"

COM:    2nd feature is a non-MU fantasy story. In ToA: The Boyhood of Thor Pt. 4. End of Thor's boyhood stories. ON his mission to Mirmir, Thor stops in the land of he Dwarves and is given the boat, Skipbladnir, to get him to the mysterious land where the king dwells. He battles Skord and Gullin, but finally presents Mirmir with a branch of Yggdrasill. With it, the king stirs the enchanted fountain, while below on Midgard, the magic drops fall on an alder and an ash tree and create the first humans on Earth at story end.     "At the Mercy of Baron Strucker"

COM:    The Howlers training hard for the 'big push', and Strucker gets orders from Hitler to best Fury in combat. The Baron issues a challenge, which Sawyer makes Fury refuse, but Fury, after meeting Pam for a date at Ye Royale Dragoon, sneaks across enemy lines anyway. Strucker and Fury fight a sword duel, but, because Fury has been secretly drugged, the Baron wins. The report is in all the papers, and Sam busts Fury down to private. the big push comes and the Howlers capture a German mobile howitzer and use it to blow up a rocket base in Dortstadt. The base happens to be part of Strucker's command, and Nick gets a rematch, fair and with fists this time. Nick beats him; Dugan gets pictures, and a B-36 takes them home. At story end, Fury is restored to the rank of Sergeant deep to Sawyer's regret. Title is a WWII combat action storyline. Cover by Jack Kirby and John Severin.

    "The Torch Goes Wild!" "Beyond the Purple Veil!"

COM:   Some distinctly crappy things happen in the life of the Torch (including being left behind from the family vacation, getting kicked off the football team, and getting jilted by Dorrie) and the Rabble Rouser uses his natural temper and disregard for rules to convince the public that he's a menace, even getting his flame powers banned by the city. After the Torch is defamed, RR turns his attention to another threat to his Red friends, Prince Nagamo, who is set to visit the city. Using a modified version of the Sub-Surface vehicle (mentioned in FF1 #21) he kidnaps the prince, and the Mayor gives Johnny permission to flame on and follow. In an abandoned subway tunnel, Toch beasts RR with a little help from the Prince, and hypnotizes him with his own Mesmerizer Wand to be a loyal American. At story end, the ban is lifted, and Torch is informed that Dorrie was just trying to make him jealous. In Dr. Strange's feature: Wong named for the 1st time. Two thieves enter the Sanctum Sanctorum and try to steal a gem that is a gateway to the Purple Dimension (1st app.). Strange follows them and agrees to take their place as Aggamon's captive. Strange defeats him and is freed to return to his own dimension. At story end, the two crooks have turned themselves over to the police. Cover by Jack Kirby and George Roussos.

    "The Crimson Dynamo Strikes Again!" "The Séance" "Tales of the Watcher: The Failure!"

BW shows her hand by betraying IM, but Vanko saves the day by destroying CDII with his new Lase Gun, both dying in the resultant explosion. BW on the run from the Reds for her failure at story end. 2nd feature is a non-MU strange suspense story.     "No Place to Hide!" "The Treasure" "There Were Five Frightened Men...!" "Tales of the Wasp: Conquest!"

COM:   Santo Rico unwittingly elects El Toro as their leader, and he immediately turns the democratic nation into a repressive police state. The US State Department asks GM and Wasp to investigate, and they go down posing as tourists, but they are quickly recognized. Wasp is captured, and GM is stunned by a surprise attack and left at 12 feet tall in enemy territory, but manages to free his partner. GM fights and defeats El Toro, who isn't much of a fighter, and the Wasp finds proof that the election had been rigged by his communist masters.   At story end, the populace overthrows El Toro's regime, and Hank and Jan are home again. 2nd feature: Is a 1 page text story about Tommy Miller and his wishing dog, continued next ish. 3rd feature: A non-MU strange suspense story of art swindler, Victor Conrad, who sells expensive paintings to his marks (like Mr. Smythe) and then steals them back again. he skips to Europe and sees a painting in a small shop that he must have. When the proprietor refuses to sell, he returns that night and steals it. One he gets it home, he gets absorbed into the picture making it 'six frightened men'. In TotW: Wasp tells Tommy, the sick son of a friend, a non-MU bedtime story about King Shann, who, to win the failing respect of his people stages an invasion on the planet Andromia. When they end up supporting the conquered and ruined people, their taxes skyrocket and they end up hating their king. Cover by Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers.

    "Unmasked by Doctor Octopus!"

Spidey shows up, but suffering from a virus, and Ock beats him and unmasks him (first time). No one, including Ock, thinks he's the real Spidey. Next day, he's back on his feet. Liz stands up to Flash in Peter's defense for the first time, begins to pursue him romantically. Ock caught in a fire, is incapacitated, and handed over to the police. Peter blows Liz off for Betty at story end.

    "The Invasion of the Lava Men!"

COM:    Teen Brigade appearance. 1st app. of Lava Men. Hulk leaves the team. After the events in FF1 #26, the team temporarily disbands. After several disasters attributed to a strange, ultra-sonic sound, the team reunites, and they fly to the south west to the sound's origin. A huge rock pushes up through the ground near Gamma Base which turns out to be the Living Rock forced to the surface by the Lava Men. Molto tries to stop them, but he is forced down by Jinku. The Avengers try to stop them, overcoming the first rush of Lava Men, and destroy the Living Rock when they trick Hulk into punching it, causing it to implode. Thor warns the Lava men back and seals their access to the surface. Betty finds Bruce, who had changed back after the blast, out in the desert. at story end, ready to return home, the team gets a "condition red" alert from the Teen Brigade.

    "The Avengers Take Over!"

Both teams get in each other's way trying to capture the Hulk, and end up joining forces. During the ensuing fight, Rick pops a "gamma-ray treated capsule" into the Hulk's mouth. Hulk plunges into the Hudson, and escapes as Banner. The two teams pledge to help one another in need at story end.

With Odin's help, Surtur is imprisoned on an asteroid and Skagg is returned to the "Eternal Circle of Flame". Thor elects to stay on Earth. Loki sent to serve the Trolls as punishment.   Executioner stripped of ax and helmet. 2nd feature is a non-MU fantasy story. In ToA: Part 1 of Heimdall's origin. After an attack of the Storm Giants, Odin has decided to post a sentry on the Rainbow Bridge and chooses Heimdall, Agnar, and Gotron as candidates. Each sings his own praises, but when Heimdall proves he could hear a plant growing on the Hidden Hills and could spot an approaching war party from two days' ride away, eh is given the spot at story end.

    "The Torch Meets the Iceman!" "The House of Shadows!"

Mysterio beats Spidey first time out. Flash warns Peter for the first time to stay away from Liz. First signs of jealousy from Betty over Liz. Origin of Mysterio as told by him, taped by Spidey to clear himself. Spidey hands Mysterio over to police. His public opinion takes a sharp upswing at story end.

    "The Evil Menace of Electro"

He declares his love for her again, and when she turns him down, he kidnaps her. The boys enlist Strange's aid to find her, then use pills that allow them to breathe underwater for sixty minutes. Namor and Reed at each other's throats. Sue stops the fight, chooses Reed over Namor. To prevent further bloodshed, Strange separates the two parties at that moment. At story end, Reed has doubts as to whether what Sue declared was true or not.

    "The Cobra and Mr. Hyde!" "Tales of Asgard: When Heimdall Failed!"

Blake tricks them into stamping his cane on the floor and becomes Thor, but the pair escape. Thor follows them to the Advanced Machine Exhibit, And at story end, he loses Mjolnir in the jaws of the Grappler. In ToA: Heimdall's origin part 2. 1st app. of the Vanna. Brimmer looking to attack Asgard, but deems it impossible because of Heimdall. Nedra sends a Vanna to sneak past him to scout Asgard's defenses. Ever vigilant Heimdall sounds the alarm even though he was unable to actually hear or see the air sprite, and Odin catches it at his war council. At story end, Odin praises him for his accomplishment, and tells him that he holds a place in his heart second only to Thor before his war party rides off toward Jotunheim.

    "Prisoner of the Plantman!" "Witchcraft in the Wax Museum!"

Unable to locate the Magician, GM set a trap by throwing another party, this time on the yacht, Neptune. Magician couldn't resist; and GM freed his partner, and they captured the crook together at story end. In TotW, Wasp tricks Hank into a date by telling him a non-MU riddle of how Lorenzo won the hand of the princess on a distant planet from the evil Maximus. Cover by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky.

    "The Grotesque Adventures of the Green Goblin"

Zemo's pilot makes his yearly delivery to his master, who has set himself up as a monarch in a South American jungle. Zemo sees a report that Cap is back and comes out of exile, has his pilot collect the rest of MoE. Retelling of Zemo's origin including the accident with Adhesive X. Zemo has MoE spraying NYC with Adhesive X; Teen Brigade calls in Avengers, who take on their individual baddies and lose. Paste-Pot Pete provides the Super Dissolver. Teen Brigade trades the Dissolver for Adhesive X in Zemo's canisters. Team trades off on the other heroes' baddies for round two, capture everyone but Zemo and his pilot; but they are downed in Zemo's Heli-Hovercraft at story end when it's revealed that Cap replaced his canister with tear gas. Title becomes monthly.

    "We Have to Fight the X-Men!"

PM takes control of Prof. X with one of his puppets, orders the X-Men to attack the FF. The try to set a trap, but it fails and an all-out battle ensues in the Baxter Building. Reed senses there's something amiss. FF follows the X-Men out to a desolate plateau (MT's hideout) and the battle begins anew. Beast destroys the Prof. X doll, and the two teams join forces against the Awesome Android. Prof. X stops AA mentally, Cyke apologizes to Reed, and MT and PM get away at story end.

    "The Thunder God Strikes Back!" "Tales of Asgard: Balder the Brave"

COM:    In Thor's feature: At the Advanced Machine Exhibit, Thor's hammer is trapped somewhere inside the Grappler and he has only sixty seconds to retrieve it. Retelling of events from last ish. Unable to get at his hammer, Thor disappears into the crowd to become Blake, strikes a deal with Cobra and Hyde to turn over Thor if they fetch his cane from the machine. They do, and Blake becomes Thor and captures Cobra. Hyde becomes Zabo and escapes to follow Thor and tackle him solo. Thor doesn't have much trouble with him alone and deposits him unceremoniously at the nearest police precinct. At story end, Jane angry at Blake for being cowardly enough to give Thor up to save his own life. In ToA: Origin of Balder. Because Balder stopped to help a bird back in its next rather than pursuing the retreating Storm Giants with his comrades, his courage come into question, and Odin orders a Test of Mortal Death. Over and over the best weapons men in Asgard reluctantly tried to kill Balder, and he stood unflinchingly as each was mysteriously deflected. At story end, he passes the test and is granted immortality, and for years to come Balder will be proof that the bravest can be the gentlest.

    "The Death Ray of Dr. Zemo!"

Torch and Thing preparing to go on a date with Dorrie and Alicia, all under the watchful eye of Jenkins, who puts the finishing touches to his Beetle suit. he leads them on a merry chase, committing small crimes to attract their attention then making them look stupid by easily escaping their grasp. His crime spree leads him to the World's Fair in Flushing, NY, and he nearly escapes again, but Torch super heats the area where the Beetle has attempted to once again hide beneath the ground to confound them, and he is handed over to the police. At story end, the heckler gets his just deserts, and Stan Lee and Carl Burgos make a cameo appearance. In Dr. Strange's feature: Loki tricks Strange into capturing Thor's Hammer. First Thor I solo cross-over. Loki almost beats Strange, but retreats at story end at Thor's unwitting approach. Cover by Jack Kirby and George Roussos.

    "The Uncanny Unicorn!" "Tales of the Watcher: The Watcher's Sacrifice!"

Uni relates his origin to Pepper, revealing that his suit was built by Anton Vanko (Crimson Dynamo I) before he defected to the west. Tony recants his decision to stop being IM, rescues Pepper, but Uni gets away. Happy off critical list by story end. In TotW:   Fantastic Four appearance (w/o Invisible Girl). Watcher falls in love with an alien Queen, saves her life. She asks him to remain and to be her king, but he has to refuse at story end. Cover by Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers.

He escapes by shrinking to ant size and the alien, frightened by this trick, flees in his ship and warns his people away from Earth.   In TotW: Pictures of Porcupine, Human Top, Black Knight II seen on Wasp's trophy wall. Wasp fashion line at Benson's Department Store. Reported that Magician escapes from State Prison. Wasp captures him with remote control robot. Hank does not appear in costume in this story. The Tales of the Wasp end with this story. Cover by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky.

    "Duel with Daredevil"

COM:    Origin of Kang. Teen Brigade appearance. The team is called in for an emergency meeting by the Pentagon and shown footage of Kang's arrival, and sent to Virginia to confront him. Team gets their butt's whipped by Kang's advanced technology, including his Anti Matter Shield, until the Under Secretary arrives to treat with Kang. Revealed that Kang is also Rama-Tut and that he intends to rule the 20th century. Team takes another shot at him and Thor, GM, And IM are captured. Rick and Wasp go to get help. Teen Brigade infiltrates Kang's ship by pretending to side with him, release the others. Wasp returns with a weapon developed by Stark and GM. They get the better of Kang and he releases a Neutrino Missile, which is deflected by IM and explodes harmlessly in the sub-atmosphere. As a last resort, Kang emits huge amounts of radiation, which Thor turns back on him. Fearing he might reach critical mass, Kang escapes in his ship and disappears at story end.

    "The Dreaded Diablo!"

COM:    Origin of Diablo. 1st and only app. of Hugo. FF are vacationing in Transylvania, run across Diablo's castle. Ben frees Diablo, becomes his assistant and even turns against the rest of the team n the promise to turn him human. Diablo becomes a worldwide hit with his potions, but Reed figures him for a fraud. When his potions fail on Ben, the Thing comes to his senses, but is taken captive. Diablo is recognized as a menace and the FF go after him. The rest of the team is captured, but Ben escapes, reseals Diablo in his prison, and brings down the castle, freeing the others at story end.

    "At the Mercy of Loki, Prince of Evil!" "Tales of Asgard: Trapped by the Trolls!"

COM:   Avengers appearance. Thor saves a boy from being run over by a runaway cement truck, then he receives a mental summons to help the wounded Dr. Strange. While operating on the Sorcerer Supreme, Odin summons his son to battle in defense of Asgard, but Blake has to ignore him, ticking his dad off. While Odin is out of Asgard, Loki sneaks past Heimdall. The operation successful, Strange offers Blake a boon out of gratitude, and Blake, back at this office, gets tricked by a disguised Loki and looses his cane and his nurse. Blake petitions his father for help and gets no answer, so collects the debt from Strange. He regains his cane, becomes Thor, and goes looking for Jane just as Odin contacts him again. Thor brushes his dad off again, and the Avengers who offered their help, and, using his hammer to locate the aura of another immortal, locates his half brother. Loki doesn't stand a chance, so he decides to take it out on Jane (hidden in Limbo), but Strange intervenes again. By story end, Jane is safe, Loki is back in custody, and both father and son are reconciled. In ToA: Thor frees Asgardian slaves from the kingdom of the Trolls.     "Paste-Pot-Pete" "The Lady from Nowhere!"

Pete gives himself up to the Torch and Thing. Dorrie forgives Johnny at story end.   In Dr. Strange's feature: Strange journeys to the dim past to solve the mystery of the girl from nowhere. It is revealed that the girl was Cleopatra sent into the future by Zota. After defeating the ancient sorcerer, he eliminated his memory of magic, and restores Cleo to her to her own time.

    "Hawkeye, the Marksman!" "The Runner" "Tales of the Watcher: The Watcher's Power!"

COM:    Origin of Hawkeye. Trying to help Happy, Tony ends up on a date with Pepper, and at Coney Island, where Iron Man rescues some people on the Flying Pinwheel, the sideshow marksman becomes jealous. he goes home and creates a costume and special arrows and tries to thwart a bank robbery, only to get blamed himself. Widow latches onto him, helps him create even more spectacular arrows, and pits him against Iron Man. While pepper agrees to go on a date with Happy to make Tony jealous, Hawk sneaks into SI and uses an explosive arrow to get Iron Man's attention. He uses rust arrows on the golden avenger, and Iron Man has to trade the affected armor for spares. 1st appearance of his replacement armor. Hawk absconds with the discarded pieces, and Iron Man catches up with him at the docks. Hawk uses a demolition arrow, but part of the blast ricochets and hits Widow. Hawk, declaring his love for her, gets her to her waiting boat and disappears, and, at story end, Iron Man losses them because he can't fly so near the airport in the fog. In the 2nd feature: A 1 page text story about the new kid in town joining a local baseball team continued next issue.    In TotW: 1st app. of the Ravaks. Space pirates come to plunder planet T-37X, and, knowing the Watchers' pledge of non interference, they set up their Delta Cannon right in front of him . he, however, melts the cannon, reverses their physical and chemical make up and transport them to the butt end of the galaxy where they can do no harm. At story end, it's revealed that T-37X is the Watchers' home planet.

    "Enter: the Hulk" "Let's Learn about Hank and Jan..."

COM:    Hulk's 1st app. in TtA. Avengers appearance. Giant Man, who can now change his size mentally, has been watching footage of Spider-Man's battle with the Hulk (ASM #14) and decides to go to New Mexico to find their old team mate. Human Top, who has been brooding about their last encounter (TtA1 #55) sees an opportunity for revenge and, sans costume and with his new Speed Blast, he follows them. Hank and Jan inquire at the Los Diablos Missile Base, and Banner goes out to confront them as the Hulk. Hank uses his Miniature Carbon Dioxide Power Rocket for the first time. Top tries to team up with the Hulk, but settles for siccing him on his old enemies, and then sics Ross on him. While Hank and Hulk duke it out, the army lobs a nuclear warhead into the evacuated town, but Hulk catches it, not caring whether he lives or dies, and redirects it into the hills where the Top has been hiding. At story end, Banner comes home safe, and Hank and Jan give up their search and go home. In 2nd feature: a 5 page story explaining mostly the abilities of Giant Man and close-ups of the duo's gadgets, including Jan's new Wasp Sting. Also a detailed schematic of Hank Pym's HQ in lower Manhattan. Included in the book is a 1 page special announcement that the Hulk will begin as the regular second feature starting next month.     "The Return of the Blob!"

The MoE escape from between the 6th and 7th dimensions where they've been trapped since AV1 #7, recruit Williams from where he's on trial for embezzlement. They take him to Zemo's HQ in South America and give him his powers, with the idea of having him infiltrate the Avengers. WM balks, and Zemo uses the promise of the antidote for his ion poisoning as leverage. WM kidnaps the Wasp to lure the team down to Zemo's HQ. they follow and are captured, but WM refuses to have a hand in their death, turns against Zemo. Enchantress escapes with Zemo, and WM "dies" of ion poisoning at story end.

    "Killgrave, the Unbelievable Purple Man!"

Reed invents a Sue detector and a hover cycle, and the team foes to Subterranea. to save Sue and stop MM. They save Sue, return the city blocks, and destroy MM's equipment, but Sue is hurt in the resultant explosion. She needs an operation, and the only one who can perform it is her father. He saves her life, but is taken back into police custody at story end.

    "When Magneto Strikes" "Tales of Asgard: Banished from Asgard!"

All to weed out the traitor, Arkin, and trap the giants. Knorda surrenders to Odin at story end.

    "The Sub-Mariner Must Be Stopped!" "Mordo Must Not Catch Me!"

Kraven and Chameleon sneak back into the country (departed in ASM1 #15) and run into IM. Kraven is captured. Chameleon poses as Cap, makes IM believe that the real Cap is the imposter. Cap and IM fighting. Giant-Man captures Chameleon. Pepper gets sprayed by water, wrecking her hair and is furious with Happy at story end. In the 2nd feature: The 1 page text conclusion of the story from last issue. In TotW: 1st app. of the Morani and Sector 14X. Warlord Wrogg and his armada have conquered all of Sector 14X except for the local Watcher, decides that victory over him will leave the rest of the galaxy open for conquest, invade his sanctuary on an asteroid. They make a show of their might, but he isn't impressed. He freezes them in their tracks and ages just the two top leaders rapidly by speeding up time. While they are dying of old age, the Watcher comforts himself that they lived out their natural lives, just in a matter of seconds. Watcher stories end. Cover by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone.

    "The Beasts of Berlin" "The Incredible Hulk!"

COM:    Giant Man and Wasp/Hulk double features begin. Communist scientists in East Berlin develop a ray that makes gorillas super intelligent. Kearns goes to investigate and is captured, GM follows him. Frees his friend and destroys the ray (which was needed to maintain the apes) before escaping back across the border at story end. In Hulk's feature: Bruce establishes that he turns back and forth to the Hulk when his pulse rate increases. Leader's agent steals the "indestructible robot" that Bruce was working on at Gamma Base and Banner gets blamed. Robot beats Hulk, but only because he had begun to 'change'. Iron Man suggest they make Rick an official member with a costume, but Cap says he'll make that decision. Immortus looking to join the MoE, tested against the Avengers. At story end, Enchantress takes everyone back a few days so only the MoE has memory of the confrontation.

    "Death of a Hero!"

A ray from outer space awakens the Super Skrull (from FF1 #18) who heads for NYC, where he impersonates Dr. Storm in his jail cell and sends the old man to the Skrull Homeworld. Recount of the death of Mary Storm and the downfall of Franklin. Origin of the Invincible Man. FF battle IM, thinking he's Dr. Storm, take a lot of heat from the press for pulling their punches. Reed discovers IM's true ID and makes a trade with him for Dr. Storm, but in the switch they make a 'living booby trap' out of him. Storm gives his life to save the team, and dies a hero at story end.

    "Every Hand Against Him!" "Tales of Asgard: The Defeat of Odin!"

Tells Pepper and Happy that Tony is out of town and left him in charge, but they are very suspicious at story end. In Cap's feature: Thugs invade Avengers Mansion. 1st mention of magnets installed in Cap's gloves to attract his shield? Cap beats them all alone and calls the police on them at story end.     "Now Walks the Android" "Captured at Last!"

COM:    1st appearance of Egghead's Android. While Hank and Jan are entertaining some hospitalized children, Egghead escapes prison, starts to work perfecting his Living-Cell Beam, then, using his Vibration Ray, he breaks into a clothing store and steal a mannequin for a full size version. He applies a special clay-like substance to bulk up the body, and then bathes it in his Ultra-Beta Beam making it grow and bathes himself to give him full control. Next day, Hank and Jan return him in the new Converti-Car to find an invitation for them to star in their own television series, but the invite turns out to be a death trap. Giant Man battles the Android, controlled by the Beta-Ray Mental Energy Transmitter, but it's mass keeps changing and his attempts turn into fumbles. Finally, as their air is expiring, Giant Man spins the Android around and around making Egghead so dizzy in proxy that he agrees to release them to make it stop. At story end, the Android walks off a pier and Egghead is waiting for the police to arrive. In Hulk's feature: Brief replay of Hulk's fight with the robot last issue. Ross tries to pair up Talbot and Betty. Robot finds one of Banner's hidden labs and builds a missile. Hulk knocks robot into bottomless pit, stops the missile and is knocked unconscious by the blast. Hulk is captured after he's found by Talbot. Betty questions her love for Bruce. Cover by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky.

    "The Uncanny Threat of Unus the Untouchable!"

Hank returns to the team, creates a device to increase Unus' power. After the King Midas treatment, he agrees not to join Mags, so Hank returns his powers to normal at story end.

    "Spidey Strikes Back!"

Namor defeats Attuma, and banishes him from the Golden Realm forever. At story end, Namor forgives Dorma, and the FF are left in the middle of the ocean.

    "The Power of the Thunder God!" "Tales of Asgard: The Secret of Sigurd!"

By story end, Thor has captured C and H, and Balder delivers the medicine for Jane. In ToA: Loki arranges a confrontation between Thor and Sigurd. Thor tosses Sigurd into space toward a deserted asteroid.

    "The Mystery Villain!" "Duel with the Dread Dormammu!"

D discovers Clea's contact with Strange and is going to punish her after the fight. Strange and D fight for the 1st time. D has to stop to repel the MOs, need Strange's help to do so, creating a debt. As repayment, Strange asks that Clea not be harmed ant that D never invades Earth. Strange returns to our dimension, and the AO gives him a new cape (yellow and red with the hooked collar) and a new amulet (oval instead of square). Cover by Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Chic Stone.

    "Suspected of Murder!" "The Army of Assassins Strikes!"

Thor asks IM point blank if he's betrayed Stark. BW convinces Hawk to break into SI , and he ends up taking Pepper hostage. Amkov kidnaps BW to bring her back for interrogation; she shows her true feelings for Hawk. IM and Hawk battle, but he escapes. SI security about to take out IM, but Pepper stops them. At story end, IM trying to find a safe way to remove his armor. In Cap's feature:   1st app. Army of Assassins. Cap puts on an exhibition for charity and Zemo replaces his helpers. 1st time Cap uses his shield by remote control. The Assassins are beaten and turned over to police by story end.

    "Giant Man Versus the Wonderful Wasp" "Enter....the Chameleon!"

Rick travels back west to help the Hulk, ends up next to a disguised Chameleon, who is also working for the Leader. Hulk changes back to Banner and slips out of his bonds. The Chameleon impersonates Gen. Ross, then as Banner he steals a 'gamma grenade'. Talbot learns early on to dislike Banner. The Chameleon is foiled by the Hulk. Doom becomes leader of Latveria. 2nd feature is a six page continuation from An #1 giving an issue by issue listing of the villains the FF has encountered. 3rd story is a reprint of FF1 #5. In the 4th feature, it is explained what happened to Doom after FF1 #23. Rama Tut saves Doom from space. 1st question whether Doom and Rama Tut are the same person from two different times. Doom and RT team-up against the FF. FF get invited to the Latverian embassy to receive a scientific fellowship. Doom turns the team against each other using holographic duplicates, but his vanity puts a monkey wrench into the whole affair, battles the FF to a stand still. Reed and Doom duel with the Encephelo-Gun. Reed lets Doom believe he won at story end.
