    "Man on a Rampage!"

COM:    Master Planner revealed as Dr. Octopus. Peter tries to get Betty to finalize with him, gets violent with Ned to get Betty angry at him. Peter brushes Betty off when it doesn't work. May still in the hospital, diagnosed as having radioactive particles in her system, evidently received in the transfusion from Peter in ASM #10. Peter hocks everything to buy some ISO-36 to cure May. Master-Planner's gang steal it. Spidey asks Foswell to help him find MP. Spidey buried under tons of equipment in fight with Ock. May slipping deeper into a coma. Water dripping in on the buried Spidey at story end.

    "From the Ashes of Defeat...!"

    "Sightless, in a Savage Land!"

COM:    Savage Land gets named for the first time. Matt leaves Nelson and Murdock to let Foggy and Karen get on with their lives, goes on a cruise on the Odyssey, which gets attacked by Captain Plunder and his pirates. In the Savage Land, Ka-Zar following the Swamp-Men warships headed for Skull Island. Daredevil allows himself to by kidnapped to save the crew, and, after stealing nothing else, Plunder converts his schooner to a Submarine and gives DD an ultimatum, join him or die. The sub lands on Skull Island in time for them to be attacked by Ka-Zar and Zabu, including DD. There is an accidental explosion which seriously injures DD and eliminates his radar sense. Ka-Zar takes him back to his cave and goes to seek Ju Ju Berries (1st mention) to cure him and runs afoul of a killer plant. Zabu goes to help him, and, at story end, Maa-Gor approaches the unconscious and unprotected hero.

    "Those Who Would Destroy Us!"

Seeker has Triton, threatens to take him to the Great Refuge if he does not cooperate. FF captured by Seeker. Origin of the Inhumans. DM escapes, smashes Triton's cage, who is left unable to breathe at story end.

Thor goes to Asia, squared off against the Demon at story end. In ToA: The Odinsword Quest Pt. 7. 1st app. of the Flying Trolls and the Stone Hive of Thryheim. Thor still on quest to prevent Ragnarok. Mutiny quelled. Loki still scheming. Ship about to be attacked at story end.

    "The End of Hydra!" "The Pincers of Power!"

COM:    Hydra appearance. Agent H, helping Fury escape from the clutches of Hydra, falls victim to the ultra-sonic stunner of the Hunter before Nick overloads its stabilizers and saves her from the Coma Gas. Dum Dum and Gabe, looking for their missing leader, are fighting an assault force of Hydra Tigers, and they use their new Electro-Jab. In retaliation, Imperial Hydra sends Skate Board Unit A with Battle Plan Apache to repel the invaders, and Unit B to recapture Fury. On the Heli-Carrier, Stark launches the Braino-Saur missile into space, and Nick and his men come together and have the Tigers on the run. As Stark deactivates the firing mechanism of the Betatron Bomb, Imperial Hydra, his cheese beginning to slip, prepares to enact Operation Last Resort. AS Fury and his men pour into Hydra HQ, Imperial Hydra revealed to be Arnold Brown, and, at story end, he readies to press the destruct button spelling Fury's doom and the doom of his own daughter. In Dr. Strange's feature: Mindless Ones appearance. Dormammu steps in after Mordo's bungle and challenges Strange to a duel, with mastery over Earth as the prize. 1st app. the Pincers of Power. Strange nearly wins, but Mordo interferes, leaving Dormammu victor in the final panel.

    "My Life or Yours!" "Where Walks the Sleeper!"

IM follows into an obvious trap. During the fight, BK is de-horsed and is killed (death not shown). Sen. Byrd visits SI, threatens Pepper that he'll take out a warrant for Stark's arrest is he doesn't hand over the secrets of IM's armor. IM saves Happy, calls in paramedics, but has pressed his armor too far in doing so at story end. In Cap's feature: 1st app. of the second Sleeper. Cap in Germany following the first Sleeper. Agent 2 wakes the second Sleeper, which flies. The two Sleepers join together. Agent 3 prepares to awaken the third at story end. Cover by Gene Colan and Jack Abel.

    "The Supreme Sacrifice!"

Team still captive of the Sentinels in their stronghold. The team escapes, but Prof. X stops the robots with a giant crystal. Trask showing MM how to create new Sentinels, but he rebels and creates an explosion that kills him and destroys MM. Team narrowly escapes the destruction of the Sentinel Stronghold. Magneto seen only as a shadow in the last panel of the story.

    "The Final Chapter!"

May recovers but still in hospital by story end.    Kraven appears in last panel teaser.

    "Enter...Dr. Doom!"

    "The Secret of Ka-Zar's Origin!"

COM:    Origin of Ka-Zar. 1st app. of Antarctic Vibranium (unnamed) and the 1st time Ka-Zar's real name given. DAredevil, minus his radar sense and still in the Savage Land, battles Maa-Gor, while Zabu rescues Ka-Zar from the killer plant that captured him while he was hunting Ju Ju Berries to cure DD. Slagg plotting against Plunderer, who rescues Daredevil and takes him captive again, revealing that the jungle lord is in fact his long lost brother, Kevin Plunder. Plunderer captures Ka-Zar, and the Medallion is seen for the first time. They all return to Plunder Castle via the Submarine, where Plunderer drugs all of his henchmen and reveals to Daredevil his plot to get at his father's cache of Vibranium. Plunderer sends Daredevil, whose radar sense has since returned thanks to the berries, into the dungeon to retrieve the other half of the key from Ka-Zar, and, after a brief struggle, the hero uses the jungle lord as a spring board to take out the Plunderer. Daredevil uses Ka-Zar's real name to get him to trust him, but when Slagg finally makes his move and is eliminated by Feepers, the jungle lord bolts, with DD close behind. Feepers revealed to be a member of an international espionage network interested in recovering the anti-metal, alerts his agent pals of the new developments. Plunderer, recovering, sics the police on Ka-Zar, framing him for the death of Slagg, just to make it easier to get his brother back in his clutches, and, at story end, one of Feeper's pals hits Ka-Zar and Daredevil with a grenade to subdue them.

    "Beware the Hidden Land!"

At story end, Maximus starting his Atmo-Gun to wipe out the human race.

COM:    Stories continue in THOR (VOL. I)    #126. The title continues in JiM1 #503 in 11/96. Thor in Asia, defeats the Demon and retrieves the Norn Stone. Hercules on Earth, hooks up with a train bound for NY. Odin still angry about Thor revealing his ID to Jane Foster, bids Balder and the others to strike his son down, but Thor fights his way from Asgard and returns to Earth. Jane mistakes Herc for Thor, making Thor jealous. He and Herc square off at story end. In ToA: Flying Trolls appearance. Thor still on quest to prevent Ragnarok. Loki kidnapped and brought to Thryheim.

    "Fury Fights Alone!"

Strange defeats Dormammu, but he uses Clea for bait. Mordo's followers plant a bomb in the Sanctum Sanctorum. It is triggered at the end of the story.

    "If This Guilt Be Mine--!" "The Final Sleep"

Byrd threatens Tony that he's coming to NYC with a subpoena to get him him in front of their military committee. Hospital uses Stark's Enervator on Happy to save his life, change him into the Freak. IM, without his armor fully recharged, goes after the Freak at story end. In Cap's feature: 1st app. of the third Sleeper. Cap in Germany trying to stop the first two Sleepers.     "Uneasy Hangs the Head...!" "I Against the World!"

COM:    As Dorma lay dying, Namor takes his frustration and anger out on the traitor Krang, before using the Revitalizer to revive his beloved. The next day is the coronation of Namor where he is crowned the undisputed ruler of Atlantis, names Dorma as his first lady and makes Vashti his Grand Vizier. Krang, expecting execution for his crimes, is exiled instead, and is already plotting his revenge. The next day, an earthquake rocks Atlantis, and, at story end, Namor, who suspects a human hand behind the disaster, plans his return to the surface world.   In Hulk's feature: Hulk in the 25th century, asked by Arkham to battle the Evil One. Banner still thought to be a traitor. Ross' command threatened by the Deputy Chief of Staff. Hulk faces the Evil One who is revealed to be the Executioner at story end.

    "....And None Shall Survive!"

Dr. Thomas treating Iceman and Beast in a military hospital. The Worthingtons worried about their absence. Angel returns to the school alone to meet them and gets captured by Mags. He gets Cyke, Jean, Beast and Prof. X as well, loads them in a gondola and sends them skyward to parish. Bobby still in hospital, delirious. Mags meets the Worthingtons at the door in the last panel. Kirby stops doing the layouts.

    "The Thrill of the Hunt!"

COM:    Kraven sneaks back into the US by posing as an animal handler from Nairobi. Betty dreams that Peter reveals he's Spidey. Harry confronts Peter for snubbing everyone. May is home from hospital. Kraven impersonates Spidey and terrorizes JJJ, uses 'jungle scent' to cancel out Spidey's spider sense. Spidey captures Kraven and nails the Hogan gang. Betty quits her job at the Daily Bugle and is replaced by an unnamed secretary. Mary Jane is mentioned again. Peter gives Betty up. Molten Man appears as a teaser for the next story.

    "The Voice of the Wasp!"

Main story continues from TtA1#78. The Avengers (w/o Hawk) attempt to rescue Wasp from Attuma at Cape Hatteras and stop his "Floodtide" machine, but are captured. Hawk trying to find them. Beetles feet only seen at HQ in last panel teaser.

    "If This Be Justice...!"

COM:    DD (still in England) and Ka-Zar caught in an explosion from last issue. Boswell steals Ka-Zar's half of the medallion for Feepers, but is followed by DD back to Plunder Castle. Plunderer catches Feepers at his double-cross. Boswell tries his own double cross and accidentally shoots Feepers.. P, with both halves of the medallion, goes to unlock the secret family crypt but encounters DD. Police arrive with Ka-Zar, and DD escapes. P opens the crypt, and discovers the family supply of vibranium which he calls Plunder-Stone, makes his Vibra-Ray Gun and dons his green and white costume for the first time, decides to rule the world. Foggy and Karen summoned to UK to defend Ka-Zar. P has costumed his crew and outfitted them with special weapons, attacks a missile base. DD tags along and reveals that their weapons are plastic. Ka-Zar on trial, goes wild before he is subdued with gas. DD defeats P and crew; and P reveals his relationship to Ka-Zar and that Feepers committed the murder with which his brother is charged. Ka-Zar is hospitalized from the gas, but the charges are dropped against him. Matt, Karen, and Foggy reunited. Foggy takes him back as a partner. At story end, the trio returns home.

    "The Coming of Galactus!"

COM:    Inhumans appearance. Maximus erects the Great Barrier around Attilan. Partial origin of Silver Surfer. Maximus has activated his Atmo-Gun to wipe out all human life, but it doesn't work, proving that the humans and Inhumans have the same origin. M reverses the Atmo-Gun and creates an impassible "Negative Zone" (Great Barrier) around the Great Refuge, through which the FF narrowly escape. Johnny pledges to come back to Crystal somehow. At the passing of the Silver Surfer, Dorrek orders the entire Skrull solar system blacked out to escape his notice. FF return home to find the skies over NYC aflame, then the skies appear to be filled with space debris. Revealed that the Watcher is responsible (breaking his non-interference pledge for the first time) to hide the Earth from SS, but it proves too late and the Surfer signals Galactus. Galactus arrives (in purple and green) at story end and declares he's going to consume the planet.

    "Who Strikes at--SHIELD?" "Those Who Would Destroy Me!"

COM:    In SHIELD feature:  1st mention of Them. 1st appearance of the ESP Division. SHIELD testing their new "Wild Bill" Robot and it goes out of control, causing some minor havoc. The ESP Division, under their new Brainwave Stimulator (produced by Stark Industries) locate Fixer and Mentallo, who have teamed up against SHIELD. Some of the men are testing the new Portable Distorters, and Fury contacts another unit about Inferno 42 (ToS1 #75). The bad guys, rushing to the attack in their Thru-the-Ground Tank. Fixer knocks down their outer wall with his Jericho Tubes, and blocks their communications with his Static Distorter. He takes out the last line of defense with his Radar Crab, and then flying in with their Anti-Grav Propellants, they take out the opposition with Neutrino Shells loaded with Element Z. At story end, having taken over the SHIELD outpost, they fix an Electronic Mask on Fury. In Dr. Strange's feature: Strange returns from his battle with Dormammu and is captured by Mordo's henchmen. They encase his hands and head and take his Amulet and Cloak. Strange overcomes the Demon and escapes, but Mordo's flunkies are closing in at story end. Cover by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott

    "The Fury of...the Freak!" "30 Minutes to Live!"

COM:    Happy still the Freak. In Cap's feature: 1st part. appearance of Batroc. The French mercenary is trying to steal the radioactive substance, Inferno 42, that is being transported by Agent 13 for SHIELD. At story end, Cap is trying to catch her as well, but because the protective casing is missing from the canister and the radiation could prove lethal for the girl. Cover by Gene Colan and Jack Abel.

    "To Walk Amongst Men!" "Bruce Banner is the Hulk"

Dr. Thomas saves Bobby's life with a "new sulfa drug" and a "laser induced hypodermic". Bobby revives and under Prof. X's guidance, returns to the School. Flashback to explain how Mags escaped from the Stranger's planet. Mags steals a spaceship and strands Toad. Mags begins to assembly line a mutant army. The rest of the team returns to Earth and helps Bobby battle Mags, but Prof. X calls in the Stranger to collect him. Watcher tries to talk Galactus out of consuming Earth (breaking his pledge of non-interference), but it does no good. The FF take a shot at G but are brushed off like insects. Unconscious, the SS falls through Alicia's skylight while G builds his machine atop the Baxter Bldg. Explained what G does to a world. Torch sent after the Ultimate Nullifier. Alicia appeals to SS's humanity. Ben, Reed and Sue hampering G until Johnny gets back. G sics the Punisher on them and he fights them to a stand still. At story end, SS is questioning his loyalty to G, and the Watcher is concerned that this new development might upset his plans to save humanity.

    "To Free a Brain Slave" "With None Beside Me!"

COM:    In SHIELD feature: Fixer and Mentallo have taken over SHIELD HQ and captured Fury. Stark takes over the combat planning for his rescue and has his new Neutralizer set up. The ESP Unit is unable to locate Fury, who had been handcuffed to a hydrogen bomb (courtesy of Them) and his mind is being blocked by the power of Mentallo, until he begins singing "Johnny Get Your Gun!" over and over. The ESP Unit mind blasts everyone in the vicinity, including Fury, giving Stark enough time to neutralize the bomb. The two bad guys try to shoot their way out, but their fire is drawn by the Metronome Unit, and they are captured by Dugan and his men. Nick is rescued, and the Mental Transmitter that helped him contact the ESP Unit is removed from the back of his head, and it's on to the next mission. At story end, the new Atomic Aircraft is shot down by a Satan's Egg (unnamed). In Dr. Strange's feature: Strange battling Mordo's disciples, recovers his cloak and the Eye and regains his body. He defeats the disciples and hypnotizes them to remember no black magic, and turns his attentions to Dormammu at story end. Cover by Jack Kirby and Frank Giacoia.

    "Here Lies...the Unspeakable Ultimo!" "The Gladiator, the Girl, and the Glory!"

Both Cap and Batroc are trying to stop the girl with the Inferno 42 for different reasons. She tries to hide in a SHIELD shelter, but she is overcome with the radiation. Cap realizes the uncanny resemblance to the girl he loved back in France during WWII (her sister, Peggy Carter) before Batroc ambushes him and takes the cylinder. He goes to collect his money from the spy organization that hired him, but Cap shows up to continue the fight, and the spies get away. Batroc, realizing he's outmatched, escapes, and, at story end, it is revealed that the spies got away with a bogus cylinder, and that the girl has hopeless Inferno 42 poisoning.     "The Prince and the Puppet" "The Hulk Must Die"

Thor returns to Asgard and finds Seidring has frozen everyone, battles him, and beats him by threatening to drop the Odinsword if he doesn't relinquish the power. Seidring flees Asgard, and Thor is back in Odin's good graces by story end.    In ToA: The Odinsword Quest Pt. 10. Thor back in Asgard. Volla prophesizes Ragnarok. Midgard Serpent appears only in those prophecies.

    "Lo! Now Shall Appear....the Mimic!"

Beast meets Vera on a double date with Bobby and Zelda, runs into Mimic, who beats them with their own powers. Mimic tangles with Jean and then comes to the Mansion himself to sign up. Cerebro doesn't register him. Prof. X has the team play along until they learn his motives. Mimic gains all their powers, takes off with Jean, tells her his origin. Revealed that Mimic isn't a mutant. RR killed in the explosion that buries the machine that will make his son's powers permanent. Revealed that Mimic is using Jean to lure the team in close enough to give him the power to reach this machine. The Machine turns out to remove Mimic's powers. Calvin is free to leave at story end. Stan Lee ends as regular writer.

    "Enter: Spider-Man"

COM:    First John Romita art on Spider-Man. Matt jealous over all the publicity Spidey's getting for rounding up the Marauder's henchmen. Marauder sends his men dressed as DD to bait Spidey into fighting the real deal, uses his Opti-Blast on one dissenter who doesn't want to class with the web slinger. The plan works; Spidey and DD end up kicking the snot out of each other when the meet next allowing the Marauder and his gang to proceed with Plan W, to steal plans of the XB-390 from the World Motor Center's Advanced Plans Vault. They succeed; DD ties Spidey up to finish the fight, and next day all the papers are saying that they had a hand in the heist. Marauder announces the the stolen plans are only the first step in his Master Plan, and, at story end, Spidey thinks Foggy is DD and breaks through the window to continue their fight.

    "The Startling Saga of the Silver Surfer!"

Introducing characters from Metro College. Sue and Reed having marital problems. Ben really feeling sorry for himself. Johnny signs up for classes at Metro to forget Crystal, meets Wyatt. They become roommates at the Northfield Dorm at story end.

COM:    In SHIELD feature: During a Witches Sabbath, the Druid creates a second Satan's Egg (named) and sends it after who he has ascertained as his greatest enemy, Nick Fury of SHIELD. At the wreck of their new Atomic Aircraft (from last ish), Nick stays onboard to shut down its reactor, leaving Dugan outsie to worry so much that wh won't use the Mobile Fallout Shelter. Driving back to base, Nick and Dum Dum are attacked by the second Egg, and they use a Borer Bomb to try and stop it, only managing to blow a hole in its armored shell. It uses its many weapons against them, but they get the drop on it and blow it to bits. Back at HQ, Jasper, who has just graduated from the SHIELD Academy and has been assigned to help with the Egg problem, is trying to get access through the Barber Shop, and as the wet behind the ears agent goes on about his dedication to duty, Nick and Dugan sink into the floor to Sitwell's surprise. In Dr. Strange's feature: Strange is seeking the lost Clea, gets misdirected by Dormammu into Tazza's dimension, hoping Strange would become another victim in the evil sorcerer's Hall of Heroes. Strange distracts him by reanimating the lifeless bodies of Tazza's other captives and defeats him. Learns he isn't Clea's captor, forces him to release his other prisoners, and continues on his search at story end.

    "Ultimo Lives!" "If A Hostage Should Die!"

    "None Are So Blind...!"

COM:    Spidey knocking the stuffing out of Foggy thinking he's DD (from last ish). Karen breaks it up, but Foggy gets the bright idea to start dropping hints that he really is DD to have an in with his secretary. DD comes up with a plan to capture the Marauder and plants a bogus story through JJJ about the XB-390. Spidey catches up with DD and renews their fight from last ish until the Marauder and his men show up in a blimp to steal the 'fuel formula' from the World Motor Center. Spidey and DD team up against the henchmen, and in the end, DD shrugs off an Opti-Blast to cold cock the Marauder. Company security arrives, and DD explains that neither he nor Spidey were involved with the bad guys. While they're making nice, Marauder slips away in a guard uniform, and, at story end, overhears Foggy bragging about being DD.

    "This Man....This Monster!"

Thing really depressed about being a monster, runs into the Thing Imposter who drugs him and takes his powers, which changes him back to Ben Grimm. Reed has been working feverishly on the portal to Sub-Space (becomes Negative Zone in FF1 #61). Face off between the real Ben and the Imposter, and the Imposter wins. Johnny runs afoul Mullins, and Wyatt intercedes. Thorne tries to recruit Wyatt but is turned down. Reed enters Sub-Space for the first time with only the Imposter to hold his life line. The Imposter gets pulled in, gives his life to save Reed. The real Ben, ready to face Alicia again, changes back to the Thing and runs off. Ben returns to the Baxter Bldg. and everyone realizes what has happened.

    "Lo! The Eggs Shall Hatch!" "To Catch a Magician!"

In Dr. Strange's feature: Rasputin pilfering guarded secrets all over the world with his illusions. Strange defeats him in NYC, confronts him, gets shot, and is hospitalized. Rasputin sends a thug to kill him. Strange gain the upper hand and compels them to confess at story end.

    "Crescendo!" "Them!"

COM:    Iron Man in China battling Ultimo which is under the control of the Mandarin, and he comes to the conclusion that he doesn't have the power to defeat the android. He lures the creature back into the volcano where it was created and dupes it into setting off an eruption with its heat rays; and Ultimo is buried and assumed dead. Mandarin happy with the small victory of the assumed death of Tony, and Iron Man steals a jet from a Red Chinese base and returns safely to a US base thanks to his Avengers ID. But, upon returning to SI at story end, he finds the plant locked up tight and a warrant has been issued for his arrest for failure to appear before Byrd's committee. In Cap's feature: SHIELD appearance. 1st appearance Them. Cap training with the new Shock Rollers, and Fury enters with a miniaturized brain produced by Them. Them send a chemical android after Cap. COM:    Origin of Gladiator. Foggy continuing the ruse that he's really DD to gin favor with Karen, goes to a seedy costume shop owned by Potter to rent a DD costume and has to have one altered to fit. Matt trying to decide what to do about Foggy's latest bent. Foggy returns to the shop that night for the costume, and Potter convinces him the way to go would be to fight a phony villain; and they set up the meeting. Foggy brings Karen along to the secluded spot, and the Gladiator, fighting for real, knocks him out with one shot. DD, who'd been following them, steps in, while Karen, who had run off in terror, is helped by some passing patrolmen. When Gladiator realizes he can't take DD on land, he plunges them both into the harbor where he knows he can breathe under water. Back at the office, Karen accosted by the building manager and she collapses. Back on dry land, DD discovers the main chink in Gladiator's armor, an exposed place beneath his jaw, and takes advantage of it. DD leaves him for the police, and Foggy, just regaining consciousness, takes the credit for the victory. At story end, Dunn tells matt that Karen is suffering from nervous fatigue, and Matt wondering what he's going to do about his partner.

    "The Black Panther!"

Angel and Cyke pretty broken up about it. Ted greets and hits on Jean right out from under the both of them. The Locust breeds "ionically-treated" eggs and grows giant locust. X-Men investigate, get thwarted by a pesticide. Locust revealed as Dr. Hopper, has a portable version of his Magno-Ray. revealed that the X-Copter has a portable Cerebro. Jean puts the team onto Hopper. The team (w/ jean) heads off to the upper Ohio River. Prof. X (walking again on the mechanical legs from last issue) tries to talk Locust out of his evil plan. After a brief fight, Locust realizes the error of his ways and goes to surrender to the Authorities at story end. El Tigre appears only in the last panel teaser for next issue.

When it fails to stop the villain, he lures him to a more secluded spot and makes use of his new Roller Wheels to outmaneuver his larger opponent, but Titamium Man hits him with his new Paralysis Ray. pepper shows up ringside offering help, and Titanium Man, realizing she means something to Iron Man, threatens to electrocute her if he doesn't surrender.  In Cap's feature: AIM appearance. 1st full app. of the Adaptoid. Cap is reviewing a snapshot album. Buck I seen only in a photo. Adaptoid poses as Jarvis, Agent Axis, Bucky, and finally as Cap, who is drugged and tied up. Cross over with the SHIELD story in ST1 #149. Finally, with the whole civilized world watching via television, Iron Man causes a short circuit in the Red's main control panel, creating a sonic blast that rattles the crowd and restores Happy's memory. While Sen. Byrd congratulates Iron Man, Titanium Man slinks off to rendezvous with a sub waiting for him off the coast. Because of his failure though, they leave him behind, and, at story end, as Pepper leaps into Tony's arms, he is left floating in the ocean. In Cap's feature: AIM appearance. Origin of the Tumbler. The Tumbler attacks the Adaptoid, which has taken on Cap's form. Wants to prove himself against Cap after being rejected by a gang, beats the Adaptoid; then the real Cap takes over. Tumbler is turned over to the police. Adaptoid is brought down to the lab until the other Avengers arrive. Adaptoid reveals his mission is to kill Cap, and had a fool proof plan at story end. Fury infiltrates the base and is captured. Sitwell, still acting head of SHIELD, is waiting for Fury's signal with an H-Missile to destroy the base and the Overkill Horn. Fury's cache of gadgets in his clothes revealed. A model of the horn is demonstrated for Fury, before he is allowed to escape and steal one of Hydra's planes. Jasper is ready to launch the missile at the source of the horn's signal, and, at story end, revealed that Fury's plane caries the horn and he's unwittingly bringing it to SHIELD's destruction. First Jim Steranko work at Marvel. In Dr. Strange's feature: Umar has taken up the mantle of Queen of the Dark Dimension and, calling on the Flames of the Faltine, consults the Lamp of Lucifer to update her on what's been happening since her imprisonment. She learns of Strange through the many confrontations with her brother and his relationship with her daughter, and decides he's her major stumbling block to attaining absolute power. Back on Earth, Wong asks Strange for money to repair his sanctum, and gets rebuked for profaning his ears with such mundane consideration. Strange calls on the Shades of the Saraphim to do the repairs and then receives a message via Umar through the Orb about Clea, and, when he de ides to help her, he finds himself catapulted into the void between dimensions.     "The Other Iron Man!" "The Super-Adaptoid!"

The rest of the team comes in to check out the captured Adaptoid, and it puts it's new plan (from last issue) to kill Cap into action by absorbing all of their powers becoming the Super-Adaptoid. 1st time he uses more than one power at a time. SA beats Cap and throws him into the river, and, thinking Cap dead, decides to hole up and go into business for himself. Cap surfaces at story end.

    "The Wrath of Warlord Krang!" "The Birth of... the Hulk-Killer!"

In Hulk's feature: Banner stops the Orion Missile, but it is thought that Hulk sabotaged it in the first place. Gen. Ross has Hulk-Killer activated from Leader's lab. Boomerang has improved his skills and weapons, ready to take the Hulk on again. Military unable to control HK, who bests Hulk in the end of the story. Cover by Gene Colan and Bill Everett.

COM:    Marvel Girl rejoins the team. Mimic joins and replaces Cyke as Deputy leader of the team.    Jean designs new team costumes w/ red belts, and she uses the pointy mask again. Angel's shoulder is still hurt from last issue and he may never fly again, and Cyke blames himself. Ralph Roberts is mentioned for the first time as the reason Ted pushes himself so hard. Rankin's memory returns and he recognizes Jean. The Fantastic Four appear in a memory flashback. PM tries to take control of Prof. X and fails. Prof. X boosts Cerebro's power and is checking on Factor Three (unnamed). Short on members, the team tries to recruit QS and SW, Spidey, and finally the Mimic. Prof. X tests the Mimic, and he beats the rest of the team under the control of PM. The team finds PM and frees Mimic. Angel is recovered at story end.

COM:    Avengers appearance. First time Spidey is considered for the Avengers (becomes an Avenger finally in AV1 #315). The Avengers decide to test Spidey for membership. Aunt May needs another prescription. First test is to take on all of the Avengers. Second test is to bring in the Hulk. Spidey staggers the Hulk with a single punch. Spidey walks away from being an Avenger rather than hound the Hulk further. Very disappointed at story end. 2nd and 3rd stories reprinted from ASM #s 11&12.

COM:    1st app. of Human Torch I since Sep. 1954. 1st app. Dr. Horton since Jun 1949 (although only in flashback). First Torch vs Torch battle. Origin of Torch I. Johnny and Wyatt return by accident with Lockjaw from the Great Refuge (FF1 #55) who then disappears. MT revives the original Human Torch. Brief retelling of Torch's origin from Marvel Comics #1. MT takes control of Torch I and sics him on Torch II. Lockjaw brings the rest of them out west. MT has Quasimodo throw the destruct switch which causes Torch I to burn out, then he escapes. Team leaves Torch I in the hidden lab. Johnny and Wyatt leave with Lockjaw. Q left alone, declares his want to be human, says he could destroy the FF at story end. 2nd and 3rd features are reprinted from FF1 #s 25 and 26.

    "If Asgard Falls..." "Defying the Magic of Mad Merlin!" "Menaced by the Enchantress and the Executioner!"

COM:   Warriors Three appearance. Odin declares the beginning of the Tournament of Titans and has the Beacon of the Brave lit on top of the Mount of Eternity to call all the champions of Asgard together for a chance to win a suit of golden armor. Loki, still trapped with the AM in Non-Space, sees the Beacon and seeks out the Destroyer in Asia trapped beneath the rubble of its ruined Temple (JiM1 #119?). As warriors pour into the city, Thor and the Warriors Three seek excitement, encounter Brok, Tyr, Galp, and Drom, who challenge them in the Tournament. During the Tournament, Drom uses his powers to trick Thor and his friends and best them in combat. For the deception, Thor issues a personal challenge to regain their standing, but the new contest is never finished because the Destroyer invades the arena. All of the contestants attempt to stop him from reaching Odin, but it is Balder, who identifies its controller as Loki, who saves the day. Odin uses a beam of forgetfulness on his step-son, and, at story end, declares everyone present to be the winner of the Tournament and has everyone's armor turn to gold once a year to commemorate the victory.
