    "Where Crawls the Lizard!"

Peter invited to Betty's wedding. Foswell decides to start following Peter. MJ meets the gang at the Silver Spoon for the first time. 1st app. of the Silver Spoon. Gwen acts very jealous. Peter looking to paint his motorcycle red. Spidey promises the Connors to find the Lizard, sprains his left arm, and leaves his camera behind. MJ tries to make a date but Peter declines because of his arm. Contemplates giving up being Spidey.

    "The Ultroids Attack!"

The team, with Widow, go to Transia. Ixar captures them, and intends to transfer their powers to his Ultroids. 1st app. of the Ultroids. 1st app. of the Sirians of Sirius III.

COM:    Johnny and Wyatt still on their quest to reach Crystal. Doom has Surfer's powers, including his Surf Board. Doom attacks the Baxter Bldg. from Latveria with his new power cosmic, has the powerless Surfer in a cell. Sue and Reed go to a cottage in Southampton for the weekend. Doom attacks for real when Ben is alone, turns him into a statue. Lockjaw brings Johnny and Wyatt back to NYC. Doom attacks Reed and Sue at their cottage and defeats them. Johnny goes to rescue the others, and Wyatt frees Ben with a Metabolism Accelerator. Everyone ends up at the cottage, but no one can stop Doom. At story end, Doom leaves them all alive because he doesn't consider them important enough to destroy.

Byrd wants to resume the hearings as soon as Tony is better. IM arrives while Mandarin is torturing Happy at story end. In Cap's feature: Hydra appearance. Hydra agents double-cross Batroc, and he helps Cap rescue Agent 13 from them at story end.

    "Moment of Truth" "The Humanoid and the Hero!"

COM:    Namor rescues Dorma and Krang from the Army and they return to Atlantis, where he beats Krang in single combat for the right to the throne, and Dorma is forgiven at story end. In Hulk's feature: Hulk still battling the Hulk-Killer. Gorki admits he sabotaged the Orion Missile, and even though the Hulk is innocent, Talbot contemplating killing him anyway for Betty. Boomerang gets new costume. Hulk-Killer is short circuited by a high voltage device built by Dr. Banner, but the Hulk is also severely hurt. Boomerang planning a way to dispose of the Hulk as the military call in medics for him. Cover by Gil Kane.

    "To Become an Immortal!" "Tales of Asgard: There Shall Come a Miracle!"

COM:    Odin has consented to the wedding of Thor and Jane, and Thor brings Jane to Asgard. Cavalry of Asgard riding to the Kingdom of the Trolls to do battle; Odin busy preparing for the conflict. Odin makes Jane a goddess with the power of flight, pits her against the Unknown to test her. She fails, and Odin wipes her memory of Thor and sends her to the West Coast to work for Dr. Kincaid. Sends Thor to Gundershelm to guard the Glade of Crystals from the trolls where the Unknown is still loose. A troll summons the Unknown, and Thor engages it in battle. Sif joins him and together they vanquish the beast, also mending Thor's broken heart, all to Odin's plan. In the ToA: The Mystic Mountain Tale Pt. 3. Warriors Three appearance. Odin watching his son battle Fafnir in Nostrand, preparing to witness a miracle. Thor opens a chasm with Mjolnir, and Fafnir falls in and is presumed dead. They rescue the imprisoned Volstagg, and ride off, and, at story end, the storm and flame of Nostrand is replaced by life giving rain.

    "The Wail of the Banshee!"

COM:    1st and only app. of the Ogre. 1st mention of Factor Three. Banshee in NYC (has to vibrate to use his voice powers) steals a painting from Mrs. Von Brahmin. Prof. X is testing Mimic's limitations. Angel's arm still n a sling. Contention between Mimic and Cyke. Banshee and Ogre working for Factor Three. Cerebro registers that Banshee is using his powers to a higher degree than can Magneto. Revealed that B & O's mission is to capture Prof. X, which they fail to do when Jean shows up to help. Team captures Banshee, place him in a gravity-less, airless chamber so he can't "vibrate". Scott notices a door that's been locked at X-Men HQ since their last vacation (the psi-proof room). Ogre is captured, and it is revealed that Banshee was under his control. Banshee spills his guts about Factor Three at story end.

    "Spidey Smashes Out!"

Spidey defeats Lizard by luring him into a refrigeration car, mixes up formula that changes him back. Peter breaks a date with Mary Jane, and thinks of her as "shallow". Harry and Mary Jane on first date.

    "To Conquer a Colossus!"

COM:    Ultroids appearance. Avengers still captives of Ixar. Ultrana gives origin of Ixar. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch return to the team with their powers fully restored. Ixar assimilates all of the Ultroids into one fifteen foot giant. Witch needs less time to recharge her hex powers. Captured Burgermeister turns out to be Ixar. They assimilate into a 15 foot giant Ultroid. 1st app. of the Ability Assimilator. Avengers are returned to Transia after Widow saves the day. Gil Kane cover.

    "Enter the Leap Frog!"

COM:    Origin of Leap-Frog. Matt returning from England, runs into uncostumed Leap-Frog who is testing his new equipment at the airport. Foggy and Karen worried about Matt (who disappeared in issue 23) and they've opened a letter from Spider-Man which identifies Matt as DD. Matt already has a story to explain away his absence, but is forced to create "Mike Murdock" and ID him as DD to counter Spidey's letter. DD battles Leap-Frog and loses the first time. Foggy and Karen meet "Mike". In their second battle, DD beats Leap-Frog and hands him over to police. At story end, Nelson and Murdock get a letter asking them to represent Leap-Frog in court. Tri-Man appears only in flashback.

    "Doomsday"

Reed sends out a warning to all the nations about Doom's new found power cosmic (FF1 #57). Russia launches an attack, but the bombers are all destroyed. Surfer still Doom's captive. Johnny goes to take on Doom alone. Blackbolt (the secret of his destructive voice revealed) speaks and frees the Great Refuge from the Negative Barrier, but destroys most of the buildings in the process. Doom creating chaos all over the world. Reed develops the Anti-Cosmic Flying Wing (only a proto-type seen), intends to use it against Doom. Council of Elders orders the Royal Family to enter the world of humans. Maximus left behind to his mad machinations. Reed building the full size Flying Wing. Doom preparing his master stroke at story end.

    "Death Duel for the Life of Happy Hogan!" "The Secret!"

COM:    IM in Mandarin's Castle in China rescuing Happy (who had been posing as IM when kidnapped) from Mandarin, beats him bare handed, rescues Hap and sends him off to the US base in Okinawa. IM redirects Mandarin's missile back down on his castle. M tries to disintergrate IM at the last moment, but is caught in the blast that destroys the Castle at story end.   In Cap's feature: SHIELD appearance. Cap breaks into the Yashanka Arms Research Center. to smash the Z-Ray. He locates AGent 60, but the man is folding under pressure, and Cap proceeds with the mission alone, facin g the worst the YARC has to throw at him, including a Solar Gun, Phosgene Gas, and the Beeper Dogs. Finally cornered, Cap is saved by Agent 60, who is killed as a traitor. At story end, Cap destroys the Z-Ray, and the resultant explosion destroys the facility.

    "A Stranger Strikes from Space!" "Boomerang and the Brute!"

COM:    1st app. of alien Servo-Robot. Namor fends off Attuma's latest attack on Atlantis. aliens accidentally drop the SR on Earth, and Attuma finds it, uses his Nutro-Ray on it, takes control, directing it at Atlantis at story end. In Hulk's feature: Hulk issued pardon by the President, but Boomerang intentionally drives him on a rampage. Ross rips up the pardon. Boomerang takes on the Hulk, gasses him, and then blows up a nearby dam, but is killed at story end when the Hulk is too weak to rescue him from the flood. Cover by Gene Colan and Bill Everett.

    "The Thunder God and the Troll" "Tales of Asgard: The Tragedy of Hogun"

    "When Titans Clash!"

COM:    Cyke really separating himself from the rest of the team, accidentally reawakens the SA. SA reveals the other half of his purpose (first to destroy Captain America), to evolve others into android slaves (1st use of the power). Clash between Mimic and Cyke, then the rest of the team, resulting in Mimic being ejected from the team and Cyke being reinstated as Deputy Leader. Prof. X still looking for clues about Factor Three. Team battles SA and get beat. Mimic gives in to SA, wanting to be transformed into an android, but changes his mind and loses his power in their final battle. At story end, SA gets away, and Rankin is finally accepted by the team for his sacrifice.

    "The Sinister Shocker!"

COM:    Shocker beats Spidey, who still has arm in sling (from injury in ASM #44). Harry gets his own apartment, asks Peter to share it. Patch following Peter. Origin of the Shocker I. Shocker's real name not used in this story. May tells Peter that she's moving in with Anna. Spidey puts on a scene to fool Patch. Spidey beats Shocker by webbing back his trigger thumbs. Peter moves out of the old homestead but can't shake feeling of depression. Spidey removes sling at the end of the story though his arm is still sore.

    "In Our Midst...an Immortal!"

COM:    SHIELD appearance. Hawk and Goliath at each other's throats over Widow's potential membership. Enchantress drugs Herc (who is back to carrying his mace) and sics him on the Avengers. Black widow goes to work for SHIELD 'behind the bamboo curtain', leaving the team to think she has defected again. Hawkeye briefly quits the team in this story, and walks out with Wasp. Cap leaves the team for the story in ToS1#88.   Hawk breaks the spell on Herc, but Zeus sentences him to stay on Earth for a year. Team offers to let him stay at the mansion.

    "Stilt-Man Strikes Again"

COM:    Inhumans appearance. Doom still has Surfer's powers (from FF1 #57). Sue uses her powers to do more than one thing simultaneously for the first time. Johnny goes out to face Doom alone, but is easily bested. Surfer still imprisoned in Latveria. FF travel to Latveria in a Wakandan intercontinental cruiser. Thing takes Doom on one on one, Doom tries to repay him for crushing his hands back in #40, but fails. The Watcher considers interfering, but is drawn away to watch the birth of another humanoid race. Rest of the team taking on Doom, while the Inhumans get their first taste of humanity on the other side of the mountains. Reed tricks Doom with the Flying Wing, getting him to follow it to the boundaries set by Galactus on the Surfer. At story end, Doom has lost the power cosmic, and the surf board is returning to the Surfer.

    "Beware...the Deadly Dreadnaught!" "Clea Must Die"

Stark's factory sinks with him and Pepper in it. IM comes face to face with Mole Man before he is buried in an earth slide at story end. In Cap's feature: MT poses as Cap, frames him for several robberies. Rogers arranges to get 2 hr. leeway from police, captures MT at story end.

    "The Prince of Power!" "...Then, There Shall Come a Stranger!"

COM:    Attuma pits Servo-Robot against Atlantis, and Namor can't stop it. He uses a Projecto-Camera to summon it's alien creators and they come and collect it at story end. In Hulk's feature: Stranger finds Hulk after his battle with Boomerang, decides to use the Hulk to wipe out civilization on Earth. Stranger takes control of Hulk and sends him off to destroy mankind at story end.

    "The Flames of Battle" "Tales of Asgard:   The Quest for the Mystic Mountain"

COM:    This Warlock is not to be confused with Adam Warlock. Merlin II becomes Warlock. Warlock draws Jean to his hideout and the others follow. Flashback to JiM1 #96 when Thor first encountered Merlin and returned him to a comatose state. Warlock takes mental control of Jean. Team battles Warlock and his henchman and finally beat them. At story end, Jean is free, and Prof. X returns Warlock to his comatose state. Jack Kirby cover.

    "In the Hands of the Hunter!"

COM:    Flashbacks to ASM #34 expanded to fill in Kraven's relationship with Green Goblin, where GG puts a $20,000 bounty on Spidey's head. May moves in with Anna. Norman meets Peter for the first time, offers Pete a job at his company. Gwen working on Flash's send-off party. Pete still mooning over Gwen. Kraven hits Spidey with a new ray that reduces his strength and speed, gets away in the end because Spidey stops to rescue Norman. Flash is inducted into the army between this story and ASM #52.

    "The Torment and the Triumph!"

Thinker captures team, but didn't factor in Herc's appearance into his equations, because he was instrumental in subduing the trio.. Thunderboot causes hex overload in Wanda. Hercules uses the name 'Mr. Powers' for the first time. Gil Kane cover.

    "Mike Murdock Must Die!"

    "Where Stalks the Sandman?"

COM:    Inhumans appearance. Surfer's powers are restored. Sandman's powers are increased with a new and improved costume. The quest for Crystal ends. Johnny's last appearance in attendance at Metro College. Reed calls 'Sub-Space' the Negative Zone for the first time. Reed, Ben and Sue return to the Baxter Bldg. and are attacked by several of Reed's inventions. In Latveria, the Surfer is being tortured by Dr. Doom's guards. His board and powers return and he levels Doom's castle.   Team attacked by Sandman, who has created a new costume that allows him to change to density of his sand (technology he stole from Reed in #57). the Inhumans are holed up in a secret shelter in Europe. Crystal is allowed to go to Johnny via Lockjaw, ends up in the middle of a Metro College football game. Wyatt directs her to the Baxter Bldg. where Johnny's already headed. Reed opens the door to the Negative Zone, but SM gets away; and Reed is pulled in instead. Story ends with Ben saying that there's nothing they can do to save him.

    "Outside the Gates Waits..Death!" "Whosoever Harms the Hulk...!"

Vashti and Dorma working to restore Namor; she shuts down the Hypno-Projector and the Atlanteans come to their senses and oust the usurpers. Namor defeats the fiery monster of the island and returns in time to be reinstated as prince, while Byraah is left to wander friendless at story end. Story continues into AV1 #40. In Hulk's feature: Abomination still has Betty, Ross has the unconscious Hulk revived, no longer under Stranger's control. Banner modifies his Infinite Weapon Ray to emit Infra-Gamma Beams to attract and immobilize the Abomination. It works and the Hulk pastes him a few before the Stranger takes the Abomination with him into space as his champion at story end.

    "The Growing Man" "Tales of Asgard: The Battle Begins"

A stoolie spills the plan to the Boss, and he takes over the operation. matt finds Foggy hogtied at the office, and that Karen has been kidnapped to lure DD to his doom. DD gets past the gunmen by posing as Matt in a false DD suit, and eventually defeats both gangs and rescues Karen. In the end, Matt realizes he can't propose after the danger Karen was placed in just because it was suspected that she knew DD. Cover by Gene Colan and Frank Giacoia.

    "Blastaar, the Living Bomb-Burst!"

At story end, it's decided that they have to return him to the Negative Zone.

Cap escapes from Skull's trap, hitches a ride on Skulls sky craft. Skull captures NYC in one of his "Deadly Bubbles". Cap beats Skull, but is forced into 24 hours of his service when he threatens to destroy the city. Cap, on national TV is forced to pledge his service at story end.

    "It Walks Like a Man!" "Turning Point!"

It goes on a rampage, destroys a mid-ocean radar warning system. Namor sends off a squadron of men to bring a message to the surface world, but they are waylaid by It. At story end, both humans and Atlanteans are blaming each other, and a sub shoots torpedoes at Namor, who is battling It In Hulk's feature: First Surfer cross over outside the Fantastic Four. Manhunt for the missing Hulk. Betty turns to Talbot for comfort. Banner creates a machine in his apartment in hopes of curing himself, but only causes a premature change. Hulk literally runs into Surfer at story end.

    "The Wrath of Replicus" "Tales of Asgard: Alibar and the Forty Demons"

Sykes, thinking Chuda is a foreign agent, turns against him, tackling him into some machinery, killing them both and causing Replicus to deactivate. Hint that Granny was Sykes' mother. In ToA: The Mystic Mountain Tale Pt. 8.

    "Into the Crimson Cosmos!"

Gwen in love with Peter, but turns down a date because of Harry. Peter breaks up a robbery, but w/o costume. Retelling of Spidey's origin as Peter decides to continue his career as Spidey. Foswell confronts Kingpin as the Big Man and is put on ice. Spidey gets costume back from JJJ.

    "The Plan....and the Power!"

    "...If There Should Be a Thunder God!"

    "The Sentry Sinister!"

COM:    First mention of the Kree. Reed and Ben finish removing the power core from the Negative Zone Portal so nothing else can get in, and Reed declares they are all going on vacation. Halfway around the world, Dr. Damian uncovers an ancient hidden Kree base and accidentally activated the Sentry Robot guarding it. Sue, Ben, and Reed choose the same south Pacific island for their vacation, and a newly erected Vibro-screen causes them to crash in the Pogo plane. They battle the robot, but nothing seems to be working. Sue calls Johnny for help. He and Crystal arrive via Lockjaw, and Johnny accidentally blows up the base power supply. They rescue the archeologists and escape just before the island and the Sentry are destroyed at story end.

    "Final Encounter!" "The Sands of Death"

Revealed that Fury left the Death Spore bomb behind which destroys Hydra Island. In Dr. Strange's feature: 1st app. Glass of Doom. The Tribunal wants to destroy Earth to right the imbalance Strange created when he brought Zom into this dimension and cut off his forelock. Zom and Umar appear only in flashback. The Tribunal grants Strange a chance to prove himself, restoring his cloak of Levitation and granting him an hour to undo the evil. Cover by Bill Everett and Marie Severin.

    "The Uncanny Challenge of the Crusher!" "The Last Defeat!"

Pepper and Happy announce their marriage. Pepper Potts becomes Pepper Hogan. In Cap's feature: Avengers appearance. Cap still in Skull's service, had been branded a traitor, forced to give his master the position of the XPT-1 sub. Cap frees the sub crew and convinces them he's no traitor. Skull steals the sub and is on board when it self destructs. Cap cleared of treason at story end.

    "The Monarch and the Monster!" "He Who Strikes the Silver Surfer"

In Hulk's feature: Hulk battles the Surfer who is happy to oblige at first, but when the Hulk is attacked by the police, he rescues his opponent. The Hulk misunderstands, and when the Surfer tries to cure him, he strikes out. Surfer leaves and Hulk strangely thoughtful at story end.

At the lab, DD turns off their generator and pits Cobra and Hyde against each other in the dark so he can search for the antidote. His radar sense restored, he beats the snot out of the baddies. In the end, Hyde escapes in their boat, and DD turns Cobra over to the police.

    "Daredevil Dies First!"

DD takes on Trapster; fight ends with DD flying up into space covered with Anti-Grav Discs. Trapster goes to the Baxter Bldg. dressed as DD, captures the Invisible Girl in paste, and leave a motion activated bomb to take care of the rest of the Fantastic Four. DD rescues himself by removing the AG discs one at a time, and, at story end, he's about to enter the Baxter Bldg. to warn the FF. Cover by Gene Colan And Bill Everett.

Thinker (after removing his disguise with Disolvex Gas) gets into Reed's files, steals the plans for the Solar Energy Activator (only mentioned) and discovers that Reed has found an entrance to the Negative Zone, before leaving to kill Santini. Reed, unable to stop the rampaging Thing, mobilizes the local police in a search to find the Thinker, who Reed figured out was pulling his strings. At story end, Ben still on the loose.

At the end of the story, IM's heart gives out and is unconscious; Jasper about to remove his helmet to help him in last panel teaser. In Cap's feature: Rogers never appears in costume in this story. SHIELD appearance. The repercussions of Cap revealing his ID last issue. Lots of people impersonating him and lots of criminals gunning for him. The Syndicate hires the high level assassin, Sniper, to kill Cap. Rogers comes out to save one of the impersonators, attracts the attention of the Sniper. An LMD is used to sucker him into the open and SHIELD arrests him. At story end, Fury convinces Steve to resume the mantle of Cap. America.

COM:    Swamp Men appearance. Namor returning home from the Savage Land. Atlantis still believes Namor has sided with Plunderer. P attacks Atlantis, and a US sub gets in the way. They think Atlantis is attacking them and use depth charges. P's sub is scuttled and he abandons his crew and gets away. The depth charges his Atlantis and Namor is knocked unconscious, just at the Atlanteans launch a counter offensive toward the surface at story end.    In Hulk's feature: Legion of the Living Lightning appearance. Duped Hulk is attacking Gamma Base for them. They still have Talbot. Ross stops the Hulk with gas, but LotLL captures Betty and they hold the base ransom. Forcing Ross to surrender the base on national TV, and they put Betty in with the Hulk as leverage at story end.

    "The Wrath of Odin!" "Origin of the Inhumans: The Reason Why!"

COM:   Circus of Crime appearance. Thor, still without his Thundergod powers, has recovered from the Ringmaster's hypnosis in the middle of stealing a solid gold bull, and gives himself up to the police after saving PP. The CoC escapes, despite PP's protests to help Thor. Odin frees Loki from his imprisonment to the protests of Sif and Balder. Loki goes to Earth in disguise and posts Thor's bail. Thor sees through the disguise, and they battle one another. But the fight is heavily one sided with Thor's lack of power, and Sif and Balder disobey Odin and go to rescue him. Odin is PO'd, and, at story end, hurls a bolt of energy at them that removes all their powers.   In OotI: Origin of the Inhumans Pt. 2.Sentry travels to pre-historic Attilan to check-up on the Kree experiment of "Evolutionary Speed-up". He speaks with King Randac, who has just become the first to experience the altering powers of the Terrigen Mists, about their advancement since the experiment was begun, referring to their race as the Inhumans for the first time. Randac proclaims that all of his people will experience the Mists, and the Sentry is satisfied with their progress. At story end, he departs, but wars them about their next meeting with the Kree.

The 3rd-6th stories are two page featurettes and have cameos of most of the characters.

Sue faints unexpectedly at the opening of the story.   PM incapacitates the Thing. His master plan to build a giant Psycho Ray is revealed. Panther runs into the Inhumans on Panther Island. Reed announces Sue's pregnancy. Panther and crew discover the hideout of PM, take on his flunkies. Lockjaw brings Triton, Johnny, and Ben to them. Revealed that PM is from Sub-Atomica. The crew beats PM's machine, and at story end he returns to his microscopic home. 2nd feature has Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Roy Thomas in a humorous account of a plotting session. The 3rd-5th (which is untitled) are all pin-up and poster pages featuring 7 pages of the Inhumans, 1 page of the supporting characters, and a 2 page pin up of the FF. 6th feature is the first solo Silver Surfer story. It picks Q up after the end of FF An. #4. Surfer grants him a humanoid body and he goes on a rampage. Surfer leaves him as a statue on the side of a clock tower at story end.
