    "Disaster!"

Spidey steals Isotope 16 from Ft. Tyson. Master Planner's gang appearance. Ock turns against Spidey, who in the end realizes he's not his partner, but still suffers from amnesia.

    "The Black Knight Lives Again!"

Iron Man and Black Knight II appear only in the flashback to ToS1 #73, which is extended to show him passing his secrets to Dane, who then improves the armor and adds a sword. Team mistake BK III as an enemy. He leaves in a huff after telling them where to find their missing members.

Before falling unconscious, Reed uses the Mento-Wave Unit on Ben to cure him, which may have killed him, and at story end, Sue faces the giant android solo.

COM:    Maggia appearance. IM still unconscious from last issue. Jasper unable to get into his armor to help. Big M revealed as new head of the Maggia, uses Morgan to kidnap IM and bring him on board the Maggia Gambling Ship. IM recharges himself, escapes from Big M, and runs into Whiplash at story end. In Cap's feature: Cap returns to costume and deals with some more Syndicate thugs who are trying to kill him. In Wakanda, Panther investigates a destroyed outpost and is nearly killed by enemy soldiers, summons Cap for help, hinting that the danger to his country is somehow connected with him. At story end, Cap enters the sky-craft sent for him and activates its remote control.

    "When Falls the Holocaust" "When the Monster Wakes!"

COM:      Atlantis has sent their Armada against the surface world led by Seth, they attack the sub that dropped the fateful depth-charges that wrecked much of the city. Namor attempts to stop them, but he is still considered a traitor [TtA1 #97]. He faces Seth in the flagship, and the Hurricane Inducer is damaged in the fight. The crew abandons ship, but Namor steers it away from his people before the Inducer explodes. The attack is thwarted, but Namor thinks he'll be considered a traitor now more than ever, at story end but is actually thought to have perished in the explosion. In Hulk's feature: Legion of the Living Lightning app. Hulk tries to escape LotLL but is knocked out by their lightning guns. Talbot escapes and calls in reinforcements. The LotLL is driven from Gamma Base, Talbot blames Banner, so Banner becomes the Hulk and goes after them. Hulk destroys the Legion of the Living Lightning base, which was about to launch a missile assault on Gamma, and is buried in the resultant explosion and presumed dead at the end of the story. Death of the Lord of the Living Lightning.

    "Let There Be...Chaos!" "Origin of the Inhumans: And Finally: Black Bolt"

At story end, Thor is about to be killed by Wrecker and Odin will not intercede. Origin of Wrecker III. In OotI: Origin of Black Bolt. Origin of the Inhumans Pt. 3.

    "The Mark of the Monster" "Origin of the X-Men: The First Evil Mutant"

COM:    Prof. X starts 'telepathic star scanning' in this story. 1st and only app. of Dr. Powell. Powell finds the Monster and returns it to NYC, and the team is sent to stop the monster. They follow him to a south bound freighter. At the end of the fight, the monster blows up and it is revealed that it was an alien android at story end. In OotX: Cyclops' origin story continues. Origin of Jack O'Diamonds. Jack tries to recruit Scott into crime. Both meet Prof. X for the first time at story end.

    "The Coming of Ka-Zar!"

COM:    Spidey still has amnesia. Aunt May, worried about the missing Peter, collapses. Col. Jameson taking flack for letting Spidey go from last issue. Ka-Zar comes to NYC to consult his lawyer (Matt Murdock?) about his inherited estate. JJJ convinces him to take the menace Spidey out. Harry thinks Spidey has kidnapped the missing Peter. Spidey reveals to Col. Jameson and Capt. Stacy his problem and gets driven off by Gwen who also thinks he's involved in Peter's absence. Ka-Zar hunts Spidey down, catches him in JJJ's office, who had nearly convinced Spidey to reveal his ID. The ensuing fight, which also involves Zabu, carries into Central park, where Spidey ends up in the lake. At story end, Ka-Zar rescues him but he is assumed drowned.

    "Mine is the Power!"

COM:    Wanda is wounded by a bullet and loses her powers. Wasp in new blue and orange costume. Goliath loses his ability to enlarge, but keeps it to himself. Origin of Magneto's Island. Herc finds out it was Typhon who extinguished the Promethean Flame and wiped from existence the gods of Olympus. Mags takes Pietro and Wanda back to his island, which he has asked the UN to be a sanctuary for mutants, tricks them into rejoining the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants.    Typhon sics Tartaro on Herc, then banishes him to the "land of shadowy mists". Tartaro is not seen again in the MU.

    "Don't Look Now, But It's..Doctor Doom!"

COM:    Sue facing the android solo, uses Reed's Electri-Force Beam, which doesn't stop him, but revives the rest of the team. Ben no longer under the influence of the Mad Thinker, knocks the android out of the Baxter Building. It returns and battles the whole team, beats Thing and Torch. Reed lures it through the Negative Zone portal. At story end, Reed announces that he and Sue are leaving the ream for the sake of their baby. Sue doesn't return to active duty until after the birth of Franklin in FF Annual #6.

    "Behold the Savage Sky!" "The Mystic and the Machine!"

COM:    SHIELD Heli-carrier attacks Yellow Claw's ship. Fury is freed, takes out Voltzman, and goes off after YC who is in body armor. Fury gets bested and YC is escaping at story end. In Dr. Strange's feature: Strange is underground on an alien planet to rescue Victoria from Yandroth, pits his magic against Yandroth's technology. The battle turns into a fist fight which Strange wins, but Yandroth sics Voltarg on him at story end.

    "The Claw of the Panther!" "The Warrior and the Whip!"

COM:    This Zemo is an impersonation by Zemo's old pilot. Cap summoned to Wakanda in a Magno-ship because of a Solar Heat Projector threatening Earth. Cap and Panther attack the control complex and are captured. SHIELD is also infiltrating the base using Agent 13. Leader of the group revealed to be Zemo. In Iron Man's feature: Maggia appearance. SHIELD appearance. Whitney Frost is Big M. IM battles Whiplash on the Maggia Gambling Ship. Jasper trying to find IM. IM uses the last of his power and is left helpless facing Whiplash at story end.     "Let There Be Battle!"

COM:    Thor, still without his Thundergod powers, battles the Wrecker, who has just been made immortal by the Norn Queen, and is getting his butt kicked. Sif and Balder want to help, and go to petition Odin, but Loki removes the mystic viewing crystal and escapes to the Forest of the Norns. Odin sends Balder and Sif to find Loki. Thor, although losing, is not backing down, until at story end, the wrecker drops a whole building on him. In OotI: Blackbolt's origin continues. Agon releasing BB on his nineteenth birthday from the soundproof chamber he's been in since a child. His cousins are there to greet him, and he meets 8 yr. old Crystal for the first time. Maximus is there, too, and he tries to goad BB into speaking using a nerve beam. The others defend their soon to be leader, and, at story end, it fully strikes BB that he'll have to remain silent for the rest of his life.

    "Now Strikes....the Sub-Human!" "Origins of the X-Men: The Living Diamond"

COM:    1st app. of the Gortokian Subterraneans. Origin of Grotesk. Krono and Ingar are seen only in flashback and were deceased long before the story. Grotesk shows up in NYC. Bobby and Hank trying to stop him, but he escapes. Gortok, changed by atomic radiation, becomes Grotesk, decides to take revenge on the outer world. Changeling replaces and impersonates Prof. X throughout story, being very hard on the team, takes a sudden extra interest in Jean. Grotesk hunts down Dr. Hunt's Oscillotron at Archer College, kidnaps a lab tech. Cyke and Beast catch up to him in his lair. Team senses something wrong with Prof. X, notices it in Jean as well. In OotX: Cyclops origin story continues. Jack O'Diamonds becomes Living Diamond at the end of the story.

    "To Kill A Spider-Man"

COM:    1st app. of the Spider-Slayer Robot. Story continues from Ka-Zar #3. Ka-Zar gives Spidey CPR and breaks his amnesia in the process. Smythe approaches JJJ with another Spider Slayer. Aunt May in hospital. Col Jameson has orders to go over seas. Spidey still wanted by police, battles the Spider Slayer robot for the first time. The SS is destroyed and JJJ and Smythe part company. At story end, Peter goes to check on his aunt and runs into Ka-Zar, who almost guesses his ID.

    "To Tame a Titan!"

    "The Living Prison!"

    "Where Soars the Silver Surfer!"

COM:    Team spirit is low after Reed and Sue left the team last issue, until they get a visit from the Watcher who warns them of the coming danger. SS, sick of man's inhumanity to man, decides to go on a rampage to unite the people of Earth against him. While the team is fighting the SS, Watcher locates Reed and Sue, sends Reed to help the team. Fredericks ordered to use the Sonic Shark (probably an up-grade of the Anti-Cosmic Flying Wing from issue 60) against the Surfer. Reed Richards returns to the Fantastic Four. Team saves SS from the Shark, but before it explodes in the atmosphere, it drains away most of his Cosmic Energy. No longer invincible, SS sees the error of his ways at story end.

COM:    Marvel makes his Uni-beam into a wrist weapon. Motel manager suspicious of Marvel. Yon-Rogg plotting to kill Marvel, but fails, killing a pilot. Marvel assumes Lawson's identity to infiltrate the "Cape" (Cape Canaveral) missile testing base. Una saves Marvel's life by sneaking some of the "breathing potion" to him. Marvel meets Carol for the 1st time. It is revealed that the Sentry 459 was brought to the Cape after FF1 #64. YR activates the Sentry, reveals that he loves Una. It is revealed that Marvel's mission here is to study and decide whether humans should live or die. Chooses to stop the Sentry, squaring off with it at story end. Story continues in CM1 #1 in 5/68. Sitwell on IM's trail, finds his whereabouts from a fleeing cousin Morgan, sneaks aboard the ship. The powerless IM is placed on a magnetic table so Big M can run tests. AIM attacks the ship looking to capture IM. The ship is sinking at story end. Iron Man story continues in IRON MAN AND SUB-MARINER #1. In Cap's feature: 1st full app. of the new Zemo. Cap and Panther recaptured by Zemo. Enter Irma Kruhl. Zemo orders her to kill the two prisoners to prove her loyalty at story end. Cap story continues as the title becomes CAP1 #100.     "Where Walks the Immortals!" "....And Evil Shall Beckon!"

Upset, Loki changes Hulk back to human as he's crossing a chasm, leaving him to plummet to his doom at story end. Story continues in IH1 #102. In Namor's feature: Namor (assumed dead) plagued by dreams of Destiny, returns to the original site of Atlantis (in the Antarctic) seeking answers. Atlanteans set off from their destroyed city (#98) to search for a new home. Seth has hots for Dorma. Namor arrives in old Atlantis, battles and destroys a giant ice creature. Grotesk wants to use the earthquake machine (Oscillatron) to destroy the planet. Strong dissent from the others against the odd actions of Jean and Prof. X. Prof. X tries to stop Grotesk solo, but Grotesk activates the machine. Both are killed when the machine explodes. In OotX: Conclusion to Cyclop's origin story.   Death of Living Diamond. Scott recruited as first X-Man by Prof. X.

    "The Brand of the Brainwasher!"

Finally Cap can admit that he's gone forever. Panther is now wearing his full face mask.

    "In the Name of Batroc!"

A Russian sub delivers XM-1 (the Metazoid) to the east coast of the US to capture Dr. Lawson from the Cape. Origin of the Metazoid. Danvers suspicious of Cap, but he double talks out of it. Goes to Hayes city to the hospital where Logan is being kept, runs into the Metazoid. CM battles the Metazoid, kills him with a rigged x-ray machine. Uses the Mind eraser and, at story end, is questioning his motives and what it means to be Kree.

    "I, Murderer!"

    "The Thing No More!"

Sue is in the hospital maternity ward, everyone is on pins and needles waiting for news. Reed has developed a new formula for changing the Thing human. Wizard has created his Wonder Gloves. Reed's formula purges all the cosmic energy from Ben, just as the Wizard attacks. New development with Sue, doctors have found cosmic radiation flashes in her blood cells and they don't know what affect is will have on the baby. Ben useless in the fight against W, Johnny finally traps him in a centrifuge tank which stuns him long enough to get the gloves off. W escapes anyway, and at story end Ben finds out that if he ever changes to the Thing again it will be permanent.

    "Ten Rings Hath...the Mandarin"

COM: CM is undergoing psycho-combat against a giant reptilian creature onboard ship, and Yon-Rogg orders the intensity factor raised to a dangerous level. CM survives anyway, and is sent back to Earth to resume his mission. The Hala is forced to land for repairs and is seen by Danvers during reentry. Back at the Cape, 'Lawson' tries to talk Lundquist out of proceeding with the Solam Project knowing the potential danger, and gets on Danver's bad side over the UFO sighting. The photo-gun overloads during the test as foretold and the energy beast, Solam, is created. CM tries to stop him, but is reprimanded by YR. He disregards the warning, and has the four most powerful computers linked together to calculate the exact amount of energy needed to overload Solam. Solam is defeated, but YR radios in a report to Ronan. At story end, Quasimodo is attracted by the computer power used at the Cape.

The beats the stuffing out of AM, but in the end he realizes he's condemned himself to be the Thing forever.

T attacks one of the Keewazi oil fields, and the FF and Indians try to fight it off. Reed discovers that it is a robot sent by Red Star and has Wyatt shoot him into its mouth with a bazooka. T is destroyed, and at story end, they all see the actual Tomazooma, no longer needed, disappear beyond the horizon.

    "The Monster and the Man-Beast"

Ka-Zar saves Banner from the Swamp Men, who in turn accompanies him on his quest to solve the mystery of the Glowing Cave. It turns out to be the Doomsday Machine, and, before Banner can deactivate it, the Swamp Men attack for revenge. Banner becomes the Hulk and drives them off, but at story end he has completely forgotten the machine and takes his frustration out on Ka-Zar.

Twenty years later they are able to return home and decide to use a planetoid to destroy the Earth to create the energy they need to open the necessary portal. SHIELD investigates only to discover one of their own is a sleeper agent. But Randall's loyalty to his country overrides that of his birth race, and he smashes their space craft into the approaching planetoid. Cover by Jim Steranko.

COM:    1st app. of the Aakons. 1st app. of the Organization. A crippled Aakon trading vessel lands on the Moon to affect repairs, but it is spotted by the Kree, who attack without provocation. Yon-Rogg orders atomic weapons to be used, but he is wounded before his order can be carried out; and CM ends up carrying him back to the Hala, after killing the Aakon commander. Tir-Zann is placed in command, and CM returns to his mission on Earth. Investigating the palatial home of his stolen alter-ego, he finds a hidden lab used to build a giant robot of some sort-a lab funded by the Organization who wanted the robot as a foolproof assassin. CM thwarts Mort and Danny from invading the lab (and they are killed while escaping), informs Danvers of the trouble, and she kisses him, under the eyes of Una and YR. CM discovers the the killer robot was programmed to kill Dr. Lawson, but he manages to destroy the robot first. But, at story end, Cyberex is beginning to repair itself and has added CM to its hit list.

    "Brother, Take My Hand!"

    "Umbu, the Unliving!"

The DM is starting to cause devastation around the world. A flashback to the coming of the Sagittarians and the origin of Umbu. Ka-Zar not having any luck with Hulk; Hulk battles the reactivated Umbu, who sprays him with gas and reverts him to human. Ka-Zar has a run in with the Swamp Men, Banner figures out how to deactivate the DM, which also deactivates Umbu.   Ka-Zar escapes SM, and at story end finds Banner dead from soaking up too much radiation from the DM.

COM:    Fantastic Four appearance. Peter finds clippings of his parents, who were accused of being traitors. First telling of how Peter came to be with his aunt and uncle. Ben, Richard, and Mary shown only in flashback, in which Peter's parents die. Mr. Fantastic flies Spidey to Algeria. Peter looking to clear his parents, clashes with Red Skull who was involved in their death. 1st app. of Red Skull II since Dec '53. Skull hands the job of eliminating Spidey over to the Finisher, who tracks him by a torn piece of his costume. Finisher killed by his own missile, spills the truth about Spidey's parents before he dies. Skull framed them and had them killed. Spidey goes after Skull for proof. Skull's hideout blows up and Spidey finds his father's US government credentials in the end, but Skull escapes. The 2nd-5th stories are only short featurettes which explain various aspects of Spidey's life including a notated map of Lower Manhattan. the 6th feature is a whimsical look at a Spidey plotting session and has appearances by Stan lee, Larry Lieber, and John Romita.

COM:    Story continues from AV #56. Entering an alternate reality created with Doom's Chrono-square, the present team runs into the original team of Avengers at their HQ. Cap learns in this reality the Centurion kept Hulk from leaving the team at the end of AV #2, and they took out most of the other villains and heroes, becoming essentially world dictators. Revealed that Centurion manipulated Wasp and Cap to bring about the new reality. Old team defeated. Rift cured by another time trip. Watcher reveals that Rama-Tut, Kang, and Centurion are the same person and wipes the Avenger's minds of the events in the alternate universe. Dr. Doom, Rama Tut, and Baron Zemo I appear only in flashbacks to earlier issues. The 3rd story is a 5 page satire of the creation of the main feature, complete with caricatures of Rascally Roy Thomas, Dashin' Donnie Heck, Big John Buscema, and Smilin' Stan Lee.

    "Let There Be....Life!"

COM:    Birth of Franklin Richards. Last appearance of Dr. Molinari (named in this story) to date. Mad Thinker's 'most powerful' Android becomes the Scavenger. 1st app. of the Borers. 1st app. of the Cosmic Control Rod. Reed discovers the radioactive anomaly in Sue's blood cells and that she and her baby could die and that the only thing that can save her is the Cosmic Control Rod. The team (sans Sue) travel into the Negative Zone and get captured by Annihilus. Dr. Molinari discovers the anomaly in Sue's blood. Crystal with Sue in the hospital. Team goes up against several threats (ie. a giant boot and sponge) but in the end beat Annihilus and take the Rod. A sets the Borers on them and strands them in the rocky field drifting into Anti-matter (from FF #51). Reed does a trade with A. The team escapes from the NZ with some of the cosmic energy, and A gets the Rod back. The birth of Franklin is announced, and both Sue and the baby are just fine at story end.

    "A Refuge Divided!"
