    "On the Trail of the Chameleon!"

To clear Stacy, Spidey plants a story in the Bugle and catches Chameleon impersonating Peter Parker, hands him over to the police at story end.

COM:    SHIELD appearance. 1st app. of Zodiac I. Rick informed that Red Skull had been impersonating Cap( from CAP #115-19). Avengers HQ has new meeting table with icon coded chairs. Dugan informs the team that Scorpio I has killed Fury (from NFAS #15). Scorpio II captures Avengers to get into the good graces of the Zodiac, then is revealed as the 'late' Nick Fury. Aries seizes the Zodiac Key, and the Zodiac escapes. Scorpio I appears only in the flashback to NFAS #15, but his real name 'Jake Fury' is given for the first time. It is explained here how Fury escaped death in NFAS #15 with an LMD switch. Rick rejects Cap's offer to return as his partner.

    "The Coming of Man-Brute!"

    "The Return of the Frightful Four!"

COM:    1st app. of Whisper Hill. Frightful Four appearance. The FF finally decide on Franklin's name. Ff have hired a professional nanny for Franklin. Wizard looking in on the FF, regroups his old team. Ff travel to Whisper Hill in upstate NY to meet Agatha, and stay the night. The Frightful Four strike and take out the team with surgical ease. medusa shows her true colors and tries to help the Ff, but the combined might of her teammates is too much. Agatha steps in and wipes them out with magic. Next morning, the FF find the baddies in various positions of incapacitation, and find Agatha quietly watching over the sleeping Franklin, proving to them that she's right for the job. At story end, only Ben suspects she's a witch.

    "No More the Monster"

COM:    Fantastic Four appearance. 1st app. of the Murder Module (Tripodal Observation Module). FF have captured the Hulk with the intent to cure him of his uncontrolled transformations. But their combined formulas don't end up curing him. they allow him become the Hulk at will but with Banner's brain still. Betty rushes to meet him, but Ross is not convinced that the menace is over and shows Talbot T.O.M.   Ross asks Banner to safeguard the new MM, but the Leader steals it in transit, uses it against the Hulk. Hulk loses control, tackles the MM, and nearly kills the Leader. Realizing what he's about to do, he drops the Leader (who gets away) and swears never to become the Hulk again.

    "The Replacement"

Nigel accidentally conjures the Abomination back from space where he was held prisoner by the Stranger (TtA #91). Surfer returns the Abomination to the witches' cult and directs them to "send him back" before leaving at story end.

    "Invasion from the Ocean Floor!"

COM:    The military and police are still hunting Namor in Manhattan. Dorma and Vashti decide to rescue him even if it means declaring war. Seth ends his exile (from FF1 An. #4) and returns to Atlantis with the Proteus Horn and is made co-commander of the attack force. Namor seeks the aid of Diane, but the police have a wiretap on her phone. The Atlantean fleet shows up; Dorma's ship is hit. Namor arrives and prevents further carnage, but Seth, thinking Dorma dead, blows the Horn and summons three giant turtle monsters. Namor rescues Dorma, but can't stop the monsters. Seth, sees the error of his ways and draws the monsters away with the Horn and is killed in the process at story end.

    "The Immortal and the Mind-Slave!"

COM:    North seeks the aid of Thor to rescue Jane from Krask. Krask uses Jane to convince North to perform an operation that would but his mind in Thor's body. Thor's ego battles Krask and wins. Krask dies, and Thor, North , and Jane are free at story end.

    "The Coming of Sunfire"

He uses a web dummy to get out after the Kangaroo steals an experimental virus. The web dummy causes May to collapse when she finds it. Spidey gets the vial of bacteria back, but Kangaroo escapes. May recovers, thinking she's getting senile. At story end, Peter wonders: "how much longer before the shadow of Spider-Man destroys us all".

    "The Sting of the Serpent"

    "Tomorrow, World War Three!"

Medusa takes Crystal back to the Great Refuge againsts Johnny's protests. FF find and halt the Monocle's plans at the UN, and turn him over to the police at story end.     "The Rhino Says No!"

Origin of Electro. Peter considering telling Gwen about his secret ID. Spidey does his suit at the local laundromat with a bag on his head. Spidey beats Electro by getting him to short circuit himself, but gets his hands burnt and suit singed. Electro gets away, Peter less than positive about his future career as Spidey.

    "Pursue the Panther!"

Bogus Panther revealed on TV. Supreme Serpents II and III revealed as Dunn and Hale, neither of which appears again in the MU. Panther captures them, clears his name, and hints at a new side career which he will start in AV #77.

    "Suprema, Deadliest of the Species!"

    "...And Now, The Absorbing Man!"

    "The Mutants and the Monster"

Gwen mad at Peter because it was so long before his visit. Peter thinks Capt. Stacy suspects his secret, feels "his life is reaching a turning point. 1st full app of Vanessa Fisk. Kingpin's first name given for the first time.

    "The Warlord and the Witch!"

QS tells how he, Toad, and Witch traveled across Europe (after deserting Magneto in AV #53) trying to restore her powers. Accidentally summons Arkon, who briefly tells of Polemachus and their power dilemma (he must destroy the Earth to save his world), and takes witch and Toad back with him. The team doesn't believe QS, but they learn that Arkon has also kidnapped the worlds' top nuclear physicists as well. 1st app. of Polemachus.

    "Mission: Stop the Cyborg"

COM:    1st app. of the Quons. FF on vacation in Lost Lagoon, asked by the Navy to investigate some mysterious sinkings in the area using their new Air-Sea Cruiser. The Monster, posing as a human, lures them into a quicksand bog, but they escape only to find the Monster's mate in their spacecraft in a hidden grotto. Reed quickly deduces that it's all been a big misunderstanding, and, at story end, they let the aliens return to space. Jack Kirby, John Verpoorten cover.

    "...Where Stalks the Night-Crawler"

    "The Lady and the Tiger Shark!"

COM:    Namor, still a prisoner of Krang, almost escapes but is stopped by a punisher collar and shackles. Orka sends killer whales to hunt down Dorma and company, and everyone is killed but her and Vashti, who is seriously hurt in the attack. Tiger Shark intercedes but only if Dorma promises to marry him, and she agrees to save Vashti. Krang attacks Atlantis, using Namor as cover, but Tiger Shark takes charge of the city's defenses, hoping to take the throne. Namor escapes, and the fight comes down to a four way between him, tiger Shark, Orka, and Krang. Krang and Drocas flee, and Tiger Shark and Orka are trapped in a collapsing crevasse and are presumed dead. At story end, namor disperses the whales and saves the city.

Arkon comes to Earth to destroy it with his Atom-sphere, but he is halted when he learns that Iron Man has created a devise that can restore the life giving rings of his world. By story end, everyone is back on their own planet. Witch, who has regained her powers, gives the impression of having feelings for Arkon in the last panel. 1st app. of the D-Machine and Ultimate Persuader.

At story end, C back under control at Pinewoods, Jasper decides against the transfer, and Stark leaves without speaking to Meredith when he finds out she's married. RW in NYC hunting Birch, Vision intervenes, brings him back to the Avengers Mansion. Team conferring about the regrouping of Zodiac (Aries, Aquarius, etc seen on the computer). Panther wants to pursue non-super villains as well. Revealed that van Lunt hired Birch to kill Rebecca and Thomas to steal their land. RW asks the Avengers for help. Vision rejoins the team, goes with Goliath and SW to help RW. The rest of the team stays behind to look for Zodiac at story end.

He and CM go after the second device, and the find Markham just as he activates it. CM and Namor toss the device into space just in time. At story end, Rick's reluctance to talk about his connection to CM makes Namor storm off.

Tribune decides to come east to tend to them personally, and, at story end, Foggy tells Matt that he doesn't believe the boys did it, but as DA he's forced to prosecute. Tony recruits O'Brian for the Long Island plant, Kathy not pleased. Bowers dodging Stark's questions about why the plant construction is so far behind. Smashers attack again and plant a bomb on the factory reactor, kidnap O'Brian. IM rescues him, forces Brogan to disarm the bomb, and uncovers Bowers as the Smashers boss, revealing that he'd been embezzling from SI. At story end, the Ffoulkes learn the error of their ways and the Smashers are taken into custody. Cover by Sal Buscema.

The trio teams up against Attuma, and he blows up with the DM and is assumed dead. Namor brushes off Diane, who returns to the surface with SR to let him know that Namor wasn't at fault here. Namor returns home with Ikthon at story end.

    "The Prisoner--the Power--and Dr. Doom!"

Doom captures Blake and returns with him to Latveria, and soon the jug is up. Thor escapes the dungeon, and at story end, must choose to either be blown up himself by a missile or let a nearby village get it.

In Doom's feature: The people of Latveria are revolting against Doom to put Rudolfo on the throne. FO revealed to be an alien, turns Doom's castle weapons against him. Doom teleports from the castle just as the revolutionaries gain control, destroys the whole structure, sending Rudolfo into exile. In a hidden complex, unable to wrest complete control over the Doomsman, doom teleports him to another dimension.

    "Come On In...The Revolution's Fine!"

COM:    Thor still in Latveria trying to rescue Prof. Lefarge. Escapes on of Lefarge's missiles, but loss Mjolnir. Doom can't lift the hammer, and uses his Silent Stalker to hunt Blake down. Sif and Balder plead with Odin to help his son, but Odin believes in his abilities as Thor or Blake. Blake recovers Mjolnir, and he and Doom duke it out. Doom uses his Electro-Paralyzer, but Thor breaks free and destroys all of Doom's new missiles. Odin getting tired of waiting for Thor to finish so he can talk to him about the "World Beyond". Thor tries to rescue LeFarge, but he pulls a gun and reveals that he was helping Doom for the money. He is killed by one of his own ricochets. Thor races back to the US, blowing off the fight with Doom, gives Cosette a version of the story so she would still think well of her father. At story end, Thor flying off toward Asgard.
