Scorpio I appears only in the flashback to NFAS #15, but his real name 'Jake
Fury' is given for the first time. It is explained here how
Fury escaped death in NFAS #15 with an LMD switch. Rick rejects Cap's offer to
return as his partner.

The Frightful Four strike and take out the team with surgical ease. medusa
shows her true colors and tries to help the Ff, but the combined might of her
teammates is too much. Agatha steps in and wipes them out with magic.
Next morning, the FF find the baddies in various positions of incapacitation,
and find Agatha quietly watching over the sleeping Franklin, proving to them
that she's right for the job. At story end, only Ben suspects she's a
witch.

rushes to meet him, but Ross is not convinced that the menace is over and shows
Talbot T.O.M. Ross asks Banner to safeguard the new MM, but the
Leader steals it in transit, uses it against the Hulk. Hulk loses control,
tackles the MM, and nearly kills the Leader. Realizing what he's about to
do, he drops the Leader (who gets away) and swears never to become the Hulk
again.

to break through the Barrier again and falls to Earth unconscious. The
leader of a coven of witches who had been trying to summon a demon in their
hideout near Stonehenge, find his body an decided its their duty to do away with
him. Trying to summon the demon once again to do the job, Nigel accidentally conjures the
Abomination back from space where he was held prisoner by the Stranger (TtA
#91). Stranger , Betty, and the Hulk appear in the flashback to the
incident only. The Abomination shreds the coven, killing Nigel, but the
Surfer revives him and goes after the Abomination, who has attacked a nearby
city. After a one sided battle, Surfer returns the Abomination to the
coven and directs them
to "reverse the spell" before chastising them for being children
playing at adult games they can never comprehend, and leaving at story end.

COM: The military and police are still hunting Namor in
Manhattan. Dorma and Vashti decide to rescue him even if it means
declaring war. Seth ends his exile (from FF1 An. #4) and returns to
Atlantis with the Proteus Horn and is made co-commander of the attack force.
Namor seeks the aid of Diane, but the police have a wiretap on her phone.
The Atlantean fleet shows up; Dorma's ship is hit. Namor arrives and
prevents further carnage, but Seth, thinking Dorma dead, blows the Horn and
summons three giant turtle monsters. Namor rescues Dorma, but can't stop
the monsters. Seth, sees the error of his ways and draws the monsters away
with the Horn and is killed in the process at story end.

the events of the story. Sunfire destroys a statue brought to the UN by
his father, and the X-Men, who located the new mutant with their Mini-Cerebro,
are unable to stop him; and Hank is seriously hurt in the process.
Origin of Sunfire, how his mother was exposed to the A-bomb in Hiroshima,
how he was raised to hate the Americans by his uncle, who got his mutant powers
to surface, and how he was trained to be Japan's avenging force against the
west. The team follows him to DC, where Saburo discovers his son's secret
ID. Sunfire strikes his father, and tries to destroy the Capital.
The team is fought to a standstill trying to stop him, and he is brought to a
moral dilemma when his father puts himself in harm's way to make his son choose
between peace and hatred. Insane Tomo kills his brother and Sunfire kills
Tomo. At story end, the team leaves the grieving Sunfire over the body of
his father, whose last words were for his son to "forge the tools of peace from
the chains of war."

really coming to a head. Members of a local spy ring being investigated by
SHIELD realize that Sharon in on to them, and they hire the Scorpion to kill
her. Scorpion, not long on parole, makes the mistake of testing his newly
honed powers on the first passer by, which happens to be Steve, who, after
getting his butt handed to him, changes into his costume and follows the villain
out to Grove Lane, where the hit is to take place. Sharon is taken captive
while Cap fights Scorpion; a fight he quickly wins and then goes on to take out
the spy ring. SHIELD comes in to mop up, and, at story end, Cap never
knows that Sharon was even there, and he's questioning whether they ever really
had anything together.

COM: Death of Janice Cord. Iron Man rushing to save Eddie after
learning of his potentially fatal brain blood clot, and comes in at the end of
the fight with Dynamo III, and carries him to a nearby hospital. Iron Man
vows to be the golden avenger forever. TM in NYC, looking for Nevsky.
At Cord Manufacturing, Janice discovers that Alex is really CD III, who tells
her a jaded version of events concerning the original CD and how Stark lured him
to defect from Russia, which eventually caused his death, and now Alex is out to
avenge his old master. He also declares his love for Janice, then TM
arrives and he tries to get the girl to safety. Iron Man arrives and
misinterprets the flight, and while they are fighting, TM uses his electric
discharge weapon and mortally wounds the girl. CD blames Iron Man, who, in
his anger, proceeds to kick the crap out of the larger opponent. He loses
TM in the river, and, at story end, Iron Man carries Janice's dead body from the
wrecked building and CD is nowhere to be seen. Cover by George

"The Dawn of the
Doomsday Man!"

Origin of Doomsday Man. Surfer in New York, learns about the special
session of the UN to discuss the threat of the Doomsday Man, and makes a
connections between it and the heavily guarded island he encountered some time
ago, and decides to talk to the delegates himself. Krontan is brought in
to explain to the other delegates that the threat is real and relates his
creation's origin, and how the dangerous robot was left imprisoned on a deserted
island and has now become active. Surfer arrives and offers his services,
and while the delegation argues among itself, he leaves with Krontan and returns
to the island. They break into the bunker holding the robot, but the robot
knocks Surfer down with a ray blast then heads for the mainland with the last
Cobalt Bomb (JiM1 #86). Kronton reveals that this has all been part of his
plan, to free the robot and hold the world hostage, so the Surfer cuts a
bottomless pit at the robot's feet. The robot strikes out and kills its
master before dropping to its doom, and Surfer launches the bomb into space,
saving the day. But, at story end, the crowds are still willing to believe
the worst about him. Cover by John

He puts them through a rigorous training session to get them ready to face the
advanced forces which had landed in the magnetic South Pole. The team
penetrates the Z-Nox defenses and begin their assault, while Huntley and
Brinkley report on the Z-Nox planet rushing toward Earth. When the team
begins to flag, Prof. X mentally connects the minds of all the good people in
the world and sends a concentrated beam of compassion, channeled through his
X-Men, at the Z-Nox, driving them away. At the story end, Prof. X
collapses from the great strain and the Z-Nox ship self destructs as the team
escapes.

Nighthawk I. DD, on an anonymous tip, is ready for some thugs who try to
rob a theater box office, but, after being drugged, is arrogated by newcomer
Nighthawk. After releasing the felons, he returns home and recalls how he
gained his special powers and what's happened since he and his team mates had
clashed with the Avengers. After Karen tells him that he should retire DD,
he finds out from Capt. Spencer that Hawk isn't bringing any of his conquests in
for booking. He confronts him in disguise and gets him to admit that he's
doing it for the glory and not for the 'sheep' on the streets, which was
transmitted for the public to hear. The two clash (during which it's
discovered that DD has an antidote to the dizziness serum), and the fight
carries down into the subway. At story end, Hawk escapes down one of the
tunnels and promises to be back the next time the moon is out. Cover by Syd Shores and Marie Severin.

her up to his retreat in the Adirondacks to hide her, all transmitted through a
Micro-wave Spy Monitor placed in his car by the
Mercenary. On the way, Sandhurst tries to blow up their car with a bomb on
the road, but the Mercenary stops him and leaves him for dead. Mercenary
infiltrates the cabin's defenses with his Electro-Static
Jamming Device, and attacks Iron Man with a
Blackout Mist and a Hallucinogenic Flare.
He locates the girl with a Cardio-Sonic Scanner,
takes Iron Man down with a Magnetized Block, and
goes to kill the girl impersonating Stark to gain entrance to her hidey hole.
Sandhurst, mistaking him for the real Stark, shoots him dead before dying
himself. At story end, Iron Man and the girl returning to the city, and

Las Vegas in the Sentinel Craft to find the green brute. With a double
team from Jean and Cyc, they manage to down Hulk, who changes back into Banner
and lets them know about a gamma-ray treatment for mental exhaustion.
Before he can let them know where it's hidden, Talbot interferes, and the Hulk
escapes them. They follow him into the desert, and he uncovers one of his
labs. Angel gets what he hopes it the device, and they beat a hasty
retreat back to Westchester. At story end, Prof. X recovers and he gives a
big speech about the world being worth saving. Title ends
until Dec. '70 where it resumes with giant size format reprints until Aug '75 with issue #94.

to give her a desk job. MODOK sends the Cyborg on a test mission to rob a
bank, which is successful, and the second phase is to set up a death trap for
Cap. When Sharon figures it out, she foregoes her promise to Cap and goes
to save him at 211 East Carter Street. After a close fight and a round of
funhouse like death traps, Cap shorts out the Cyborg with a power cable.
It is then revealed to him that the whole thing was a ploy to lead SHIELD back
to the AIM nest behind the Cyborg. Cap believes that Sharon is in on it,
and that compounded with the broken promise, he walks away at story end pretty
crushed by the whole affair, leaving Sharon behind in tears. Cover by Joe Sinnott and Marie Severin.

out of it. DD has his hands full with Gladiator but finally beats him when
it's revealed that the blades are fakes. Karen, in tears, takes TWA flight
#104 out of Newark Airport, underscoring that being DD is more important to Matt
than she is. At story end, after Gladiator is secured, DD tries to phone

face the protector of the dark realm. Barbara recants and is sent there
too, and Benner becomes the Hulk to protect her. The battle is so fierce
that they destroy his universe and the trio plummet into the realm of the
Undying Ones. Night-Crawler figures out what is going down and decides to
take their dimension. In order to help the creature delay the Undying
Ones, Barbara takes Dr. Strange's place as captive of the Nameless One so
he can lend a hand with Hulk. Strange and Hulk leave, sealing the portal
behind them and are returned to our dimension. With the menace locked
safely away for many lifetimes, Strange contemplates retirement at the end of
the story.

leads to a battle between Torch and him all over town. Surfer even tries
to lose the Torch in space, and accidentally hits the barrier. The
military gets involved and the fight ends when the Surfer is forced to rescue
the unconscious Torch from the Subway car in front of which he'd just knocked
him. At story end, the Surfer finds out that the general was merely asking
for his help with the space program, and he rebukes his actions as he flies

defenses, hoping to take the throne. Namor escapes, and the fight comes
down to a four way between him, tiger Shark, Orka, and Krang. Krang and
Drocas flee, and Tiger Shark and Orka are trapped in a collapsing crevasse and
are presumed dead. At story end, namor disperses the whales and saves the
city.

COM: Titles starts again from Dec. '69. Avengers
(old team) are only seen in a flashback. In Greenwich Village, Rick
performing "You're Gonna Wake Up Dead" at a coffee house to raves, and is
approached by Boggs again. Marvel and Rick redefining their relationship;
take out a couple of would be thieves before deciding to seek out Dr. Banner for
help to keep the both of them out of the Negative-Zone. On the way to New
Mexico, Marvel is sidetracked by the Rat Pack
preying on the people affected by a recent tornado strike, and he decides, while
assisting the Red Cross, that this is how he should spend his time. Still
under the three hour limit, Marvel is struck by an unknown bolt of energy,
knocking him from the sky, and it is an unconscious Rick that ends up on
Banner's doorstep. This unscheduled visit, and that he might have brought
the Avengers with him, upsets the doctor enough to effect the change, and, at
story end, it is the Hulk that arrives to smash his unwelcomed friend.

a trade as a one of a kind collectible. Iron Man knocks Happy out and
tries to rescue her from the Collector's ship himself, but her cell is booby
trapped. Collector kidnaps Happy and begins running tests with his
Converto-Ray to see what element turns him into his
alter ego. Iron Man tries to make another trade, and C settles for the
Solar Sword, and send him into the Dark Dimension
to fetch it. Iron Man is saved from the Shadow Spawn and their
Shadow Spikes by Val-Larr, who then gives him the
ten cent tour of what is going on there, and brings him back to
Lumina. Iron Man cheap shots the hero and
takes off with the sword just as the Shadow Horde demons make their attack on
the city. he returns it as promised, and the Collector lets them all go
but refuses to return them to their own dimension. But, as IM expected,
the Sword goes critical in a lighted dimension, and the collector makes a final
deal to save his own skin. IM returns the weapon to Lumina in time to
drive away Shar-Khan, and save the day, and, at story end, Iron Man, Happy, and
pepper are home safe and sound. Cover by Don Heck and Frank Giacoia.

Four (w/o Invisible Girl) and SHIELD appearances. Mephisto has ordered
Surfer to destroy SHIELD to save the life of Shalla and is reveling in the pain
its causing him. Fury contacts the FF to verify that the disturbances in
the sky were in fact the Surfer, and contacts Stark to deliver the new
Z-Guns. Mephisto, to make the Surfer's
suffering complete, replaces one of the female agents with Shalla, figuring that
she'd be killed along with the rest. Surfer finally attacks SHIELD but is
bent on only property damage with no loss of life, and Fury's men take him out
with their new weapons and lock him in their Grani-Cell.
While Fury's trying to figure out why the Surfer attacked, Mephisto flaunts
Shalla in front of his cell's window. Surfer breaks loose and attacks
Mephisto, who teleports Shalla away again, but, because the demon is invisible
to human eyes, Nick and his men don't understand and hit him with the Z-Guns
again. Mephisto leaves, satisfied with his small victory, and the
anguished Surfer escapes on his board and drifts toward Attilan. Next issue is not
released until 9/70. Cover by Barry Windsor-Smith and Marie Severin.

the Raven!"

Raven. Namor returns to NYC on the sly to enlist the help of Red Raven,
whose suspended animation capsule had been uncovered and is being studied by Dr.
Newell, runs afoul of the police, who have an APB on him for breaking into the
UN (last ish). Diane and Walt cultivating a relationship, but she
still has feeling for Namor. Namor convinces her to let him in to see
Raven, and awakens him with the Vitalizor.
Rehash of Raven's origins and how he put the Winged Men in stasis for their own
safety. Raven's wires still crossed, want to reawaken his people to
inherit the Earth, and Namor goes to stop him. Back at the sunken Island
in the Sky, Namor and Raven fight, ending in Raven reactivating his people to
find they've been dead for years. In his rage, he sets off a chain
reaction that destroys the Island and presumably kills him. At story end,
Namor returns Diane to safety, and prays that he is never the unwitting
destroyer of his own people.

COM: Loki escapes to Earth only to find Midgard
effected by Surtur's onslaught as well, but he's happy in the thought that Thor
will die in the process. Thor rallies the troops and leads them into
battle, as Sif and Balder go to Loki's castle and force Igron to send Balder to
the Sea of Eternal Night, where Loki has stashed the unconscious Odin.
While Thor and the rest battle Surtur, gaining no ground, Balder wakes Odin but
is aged almost unto death in the endeavor. Thor and crew hit Surtur with
everything they have, including a small planetoid and a
Frost Gun, but are still driven back before his might; and, when all
seems darkest, Odin arrives, having restored his rescuer, and seals the fire
giant back in the ground, placing a mountain peak over the site. At story
end, the weak and aching warriors pay homage to the All Father. Cover by Jack Kirby and John Verpoorten.

has Stark Industries build an Android to test to see if this is even the real
star spangled Avenger (after his faked death in #111). Cap doubting
himself, because he doesn't want anyone else in his life to die, and when Fury
has his clearance evoked, he isn't too happy. During the test against X-4,
the android goes berserk, and Sharon traces it back to Ryder, who is the real
traitor. It is again revealed that SHIELD was just using Cap as a decoy

their boat as they make their escape. Kraven stuns him and has him tossed
overboard. At story end, months later, Ka-Zar shows up in NYC to confront
the hunter and rescue his friend. In
Doom's feature: Doombot appearance. Cameo appearances by
Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Richard Nixon. Doom teleports an image
projector to be found on the moon just so he can mock the American technology
and wave his newest project under their noses, his ultimate weapon, which he's
preparing to activate. Rudolfo joins the underground in Latveria and sends
Ramona, because of her resemblance to Valeria, as a plant to Doom's castle.
Doom transfers his mental energy into his creation just before the girl, upon
seeing his real face, smashes the master control panel and opens the castle to
attack. The underground, including (unknown to everyone but the prince)
the Rudolfo robot, are on the brink of victory when the Doomsman comes to life
and smashes free, and, at story end, from the safety of a hidden control room
deep beneath the castle, Doom captures the bogus prince. Cover by Bill Everett and Marie Severin.

Iron Man to help locate the missing Panther, who was kidnapped by the Legion to
lure the rest of the team to its doom. Panther is allowed to escape long
enough to get a mayday to the team, sending it as a
Prometheus Priority, before being recaptured. The Avengers split up
to confront the baddies at the water main below the Mansion, a nearby power
station, and in Greenwich Village (which is a red herring), and are captured and
placed in a giant hour glass to smother them. When Reaper discovers that
the Vision had the brain pattern of his brother, he smashes the glass only to
find that the synthezoid had switched places with Laser. The Legion is
quickly rounded up, but, at story end, Vision is having a bit of an identity
crisis and leaves the team.

to SI. Hugo revealed as the controller, that he's built another Mental
Wave Absorbatron, and forces Stark to build a portable version for his helmet.
Jasper doubles back and distracts C long enough for his boss to change to IM.
Uses his new Mental Force Bolts, but they overload
his new helmet. At story end, C back under control at Pinewoods, Jasper
decides against the transfer, and Stark leaves without speaking to Meredith when

across Black Bolt, who he takes to be the leader, and when he starts to follow
him, the other members of the Royal Family take him as a threat and capture him,
getting rebuked by their king for acting rashly. The Surfer wakes, takes
them to be enemies, and the fight starts again, until Maximus, who saw this as
an ample opportunity, attacks. The Surfer, forgotten for the moment,
decides to make like the better part of valor but has trouble retrieving his
board from Lockjaw. when he does finally get going, it is timed right at
the defeat of Maximus, and the Royal Family turns its attention back to him.
he outruns Black Bolt, but, at story end, the Surfer snaps finally and declares
that he'll no longer be an advocate fro peace and will battle anyone one their
own savage terms. Vol. I of this title ends. Vol. II begins Dec.
'88.

his Globules of Madness against the Thunder god.
Thor holds his own until the Beams of Bondage are
used by one of the creatures produced by the Globules, while in Asgard, Sif
recruits the Warriors Three, who were tussling with some Trolls. The
Vizier sends them to the nether world with the Odin Helmet,

men to hunt down the rest of the rebels and find his errant Doomsman.
Rudolfo in custody revealed to be the robot created by Doom to preside at his
coronation and is destroyed. Faceless One helping the real Rudolfo regain
the throne and they capture the Doomsman. Ramona finds herself unable to
kill Doom when she has the chance. The rebels attack the castle again, and
the Faceless One, with the Doomsman, enter in his
Omni-Sphere. At story end, Doom and the Faceless One face off, and
the android, who now serves a different master, hesitates to follow the order to

killing Birch), and wrecking the dam, (presumably killing Red Wolf and Van Lunt).
At story end, Will Talltrees (Christian name given for 1st time) shows up and is
taken under his uncle's wing.

brother had joined the gang. Lonnie survives the operation, but he needs a
reason to live. DD and Panther break into the gang hideout and with
Billy's help clean up the mob. Revealed that Billy is working for the DA
to find out who's behind the Thunderbolts and providing them with such hardware.
At story end, Lonnie recovers, and DD and Panther wondering who Mr. Big really

device, but the blast from a concussion grenade caused his amnesia. He and
CM go after the second device, and the find Markham just as he activates it.
CM and Namor toss the device into space just in time. At story end, Rick's
reluctance to talk about his connection to CM makes Namor storm off.

Cap's travels take him to San Francisco, where, at a seedy diner, he hears a
telecast that his old partner has been found alive. The Hood hypnotizes
the youth to believe he's the real McCoy, springs the trap on Cap, and reveals
that he's really Strucker. Cap gets knocked unconscious saving the youth,
and is strapped to a clock-like device designed to electrocute him at a certain
hour. Bucky recovers enough to free Cap, who takes out Strucker, and at
story end, there is a question whether he is the real Bucky or not. Cover by Joe Sinnott and Marie Severin.

New York Three}. Tribune decides to come east to tend to them personally,
and, at story end, Foggy tells Matt that he doesn't believe the boys did it, but

Smashers turn the rally into a riot, which IM and O'Brian rout. Kathy
giving Kevin grief for working at SI. Smashers regroup and prepare for
another attack. Tony recruits O'Brian for the Long Island plant, Kathy not
pleased. Bowers dodging Stark's questions about why the plant construction
is so far behind. Smashers attack again and plant a bomb on the factory
reactor, kidnap O'Brian. IM rescues him, forces Brogan to disarm the bomb,
and uncovers Bowers as the Smashers boss, revealing that he'd been embezzling
from SI. At story end, the Ffoulkes learn the error of their ways and the

captures Blake and returns with him to Latveria, and soon the jug is up.
Thor escapes the dungeon, and at story end, must choose to either be blown up
himself by a missile or let a nearby village get it.

while in the Savage Land, Zaladane inciting her people to
conquest in the name of the Sun-god. Ka-Zar and PM return to the Savage Land in time to see Zaladane
and her people headed for the kingdom of the Lizard Men. In Doom's
feature: The underground of Latveria is revolting against Doom to put Rudolfo
on the throne. Doom seizes control of the Doomsman (who is revealed out of
his bandages for the 1st time) back from the Faceless One, who is revealed to be an alien,
and turns Doom's castle weapons
against him. Doom teleports from the castle just as the revolutionaries gain
control, destroys the whole structure, killing the alien and sending Rudolfo into exile.
At story end, in a hidden
complex, unable to wrest complete control over the Doomsman, Doom teleports him
to another dimension.

notifies while in a stasis field that the android is here to investigate the
world as a possible trading colony, and he leaves IM to further study the
planet. Iron Man escapes, but MK-5 has assumed a human form and hitches a
ride from the girl. The cons, escaping the police, crash their car and
hijack the one occupied by the couple. Mike tries to rescue the girl who
he has developed feeling for and there is a standoff. The bad guys are
subdued, but Mike is shot several times by both in the process. He has
only time enough to say goodbye to the girl before exploding, and, at story end,
he is reduced to ash as the police lug away Rasko and Baldy. Cover by Bill Everett and Marie Severin.

recent illness, and goes out with Candy on a date at his father's insistence.
Dazzler sends two of his men to kill WK Worthington to keep him from informing
on him, and the job is done up close and personal. Warren hears the news
report of the murder on the way home and goes into a rage. He locates the
fleeing killers on their Jet-Pogo Sticks and might
have killed them if not for the timely arrival of Duncan. At story end, he
swears revenge on the Dazzler. 3rd

sent after him by Llyra, and the Lemurian queen is caught in a landslide.
At story end, revealed that Llyra and her twin are one and the same, and she is
assumed dead at story end.

Odin believes in his abilities as Thor or Blake. Blake recovers Mjolnir,
and he and Doom duke it out. Doom uses his Electro-Paralyzer,
but Thor breaks free and destroys all of Doom's new missiles. Odin getting
tired of waiting for Thor to finish so he can talk to him about the "World
Beyond". Thor tries to rescue LeFarge, but he pulls a gun and reveals that
he was helping Doom for the money. He is killed by one of his own
ricochets. Thor races back to the US, blowing off the fight with Doom,
gives Cosette a version of the story so she would still think well of her
father. At story end, Thor flying off toward Asgard. Cover by John Buscema and John Verpoorten.
