COM:    Valkyrie joins the team, BK turned to stone. After accidentally arriving in the British Isles, the team is searching for help for Barbara at a nearby castle and are attacked by the Executioner and his men. With the help of Fragon, Namor and Strange are captured and incarcerated n the dungeon with Banner and Barbara, and the Enchantress and Black Knight. E relates how she came to be here, how she was thrown over by Executioner for the local queen and how she duped BK in helping her with her revenge and got captured. To escape, she imbues Barbara with the spirit of Brunhilde and she becomes the Valkyrie, and with their combined might, they escape. They take down the hired help pretty easily and a double team with Valkyrie and Enchantress takes down Casiolena. Enchantress takes her love back, and when BK intercedes, she turns him to stone with a kiss. Unable to change him back here, Strange takes them all back to his Sanctum Sanctorum after sealing Garrett Castle, and Valkyrie, taking over Aragorn and the Ebony Blade, joins the team. At story end, the atomic clock on Omegatron is down to hundredths of a second.

Johnny flies into a rage, but the fight is halted by a tremor that strikes the Great Refuge. Everyone suspects Maximus' new Perpetual Motion Machine (revealed that Medusa was sent to fetch Reed to study the device), but he claims that the Inhumans brought the destruction on themselves. FF on the way. Alpha Primitives rebellion begins, but the initial confrontation is put down by sealing them in the catacombs. When it is learned that the primitives have kidnapped Crystal, Johnny and Quicksilver follow, and, at story end, run into Omega. Jim Steranko, Joe Sinnott signed cover.

COM:    1st appearance of Copperhead Canyon and Serpent-Men. Mephisto has pitted Crash against GR, and, when his servant hesitates in the presence of his daughter, he brings them to the Netherworld to duke it out. When GR finally convinces him of his future with the demon, he helps GR escape, giving his own life fighting some of the demonic minions. An unnamed messenger takes Crash's body to its final reward and Johnny wakes as from a dream. After their final show at Madison Square Garden, they head out west for a gig for him to jump the local canyon. Johnny clashes with Sam, who leaves him out in the desert to die, and no one back at the Miller ranch seems too upset by it. John catches up with Sam, but is warned off by Snake-Dance. Later, he rides out to look over the canyon, not realizing that Sam has sabotaged his bike, and clashes with the medicine man and his followers. When Snake-Dance casts a 'spell' that makes him grow to a giant copperhead, GR tries to escape over the canyon, but his bike explodes in mid air at story end. Frank Miller cover.

Ff arrive during a full scale revolt; Omega keeps getting bigger and bigger. Reed figures out that its Maximus' Perpetual Motion Machine that's responsible, and he manages to stem the fighting. Crystal explains that it's their racial hatred that's been powering Omega. At story end, the primitives are freed from slavery, but Omega remains in case the problem should arise again. Epilogue: Johnny gets his new red uniform via the Electro Weave, and medusa gets her new FF uniform as they both join. At the end, Johnny is very mature says a final goodbye to Crystal. COM:    Death of Omegatron. Valkyrie, who is having trouble adjusting to this world, is attacked on the street by the minions of Cyrus Black, and they are dispatched with a little help from Strange. The good doctor then sends her to find Namor and Hulk and make peace with them. When Namor disappears, she and Namorita go find the Hulk, but he disappears too. They follow using the magic crystals given to her by Strange, a trail which brings them to a deserted coast in Maine. Val and Nita get inside to find the doomsday clock down to three hundredths of a second and prepare to dismantle the place when they are attacked by duplicates of the captured members. While they duke it out (finding the real McCoys using Aragorn), Omegatron reaches zero and takes on the form of a man ready to speak its creator's name. But the others recover, and a triple team effort ending in Val taking off its head saves the day. At story end, Hulk still doesn't accept her, but Namor recants his earlier statement and accompanies her back to NYC.

    "Thundra at Dawn!"

Thundra shows up, kidnaps Alicia, and challenges Ben to a fight as Shea Stadium. Other heroes appear in cameo as reactions to the bout. Frightful Four looking to shed themselves of Thundra because of their difference of ethical opinion. Thundra beats the Thing with a Femizon karate chop, and Reed only saves him by turning him human temporarily, making her loose interest. But, true to her word, she forces the Trapster to release Alicia. At story end, Wizard is hot for revenge. John Buscema, Joe Sinnott cover.

COM:    GR made immune to al injury. GR drops o the floor of Copperhead Canyon and is assumed dead. Sam takes Rocky out to the canyon to find him and kidnaps her, and Slade arrives and decides to take Johnny's place in the show. Mephisto arrives and declares that he won't let Johnny die until their debt is repaid, making him immune to all attack, while Snake-Dance, laying his shtick on heavy to get the locals to buy it, has decided to sacrifice Rocky. GR, returning just in time to do the show instead of Slade, loses his concentration and cracks up, then chases down Sam. He arrives at the ceremony at the village but not in time to stop the snakes from biting the girl. GR wreaks havoc on the Serpent-Men again, and rushes off to get Rocky to a hospital.

At story end, Gideon, in some sort of electronic body suit, has three of the FF and reveals is plan to steal their power.

COM:    Surfer returns to the Sanctum Sanctorum to find it enclosed in a mystical cube, and he gets in to find Strange besieged by Black and his minions. They repel him and his men but BK is almost destroyed in the fray. While Namor and SS show Val the sights, Black is preparing for another attack and stumbles upon the ability to make his thoughts tangible. He at first siccs mythical creatures on the team, and then sends an invincible duplicate of himself to finish the job. They gets their butts handed to them until Namor of all people figures out that this isn't reality. The duplicate simply disappears and with the failure, Black decides to reexamine his life before trying again. At story end, as he leaves his rooms, his rat grows to enormous size again. One page pin-up of the team.

Wyatt (face unseen) breaks into FF's HQ. Alicia disliking that she's leaving on a trip soon. Johnny, Ben, and medusa break free, but it's Dragon Man that saves the day when he destroys the Eternity Machine, which explodes and kills Gideon. COM:    GR is rushing Rocky to the hospital for snake bite courtesy of Snake-Dance (last ish), and Sam finally puts his foot down, ready to hang the medicine man for what he did to the girl, when Linda intercedes. GR gets her to the hospital, only to find out there is not anti-venom to be had, and Linda, discovering that her father has some, rushes to save the girl. In his impotent anger, GR roars out of there just missing Linda, who saves the day and recognizes Rocky's last name. The police pursue GR, and Linda remembers a kindly police officer who once saved her life (Crash) and realizes the irony that the master has ordered her to kill Johnny. GR returns through town with a large police following, and Linda helps him to get away only to reveal herself as the Witch-Woman at story end.

Attuma has developed the ability to control sea life and the team is forced to surrender when Namor and Jennings are captured. They are brought back to his underwater city, and his partner is revealed as the Red Ghost who spills their plan to use his cosmic ray technology to create an army of controllable super fish. Val and Hawk escape, but at story end, they face a mind controlled Namor. Title goes monthly.

Then the separate factions come head to head, including the African American patriots led by Marty, and the Shaper puts and end to it all, revealing that Warhead was another incarnation of Slugger Johnson, and that he would take Thomas with him and cure the boy. At story end, the team is returned to the real world.

GR escapes from the hospital to stop Slade from making the jump and is followed by the girl, but he doesn't make it in time to stop Slade from crashing on the opposite side. COM:    At Attuma's home base, a mind controlled Namor has been sicced on Hawk and Val, and , after they're captured again, Red Ghost prepares to steal their minds but tells how he came to be partnered with Attuma first. Strange, having figured a possible way of curing BK (turned to stone in DEF #4), goes to gather the other team members, and he and Surfer go to save the others.   Attuma uses Namor, Hawk, and Val to attack Atlantis, and when their team mates arrive, Barbara Norris' mind tries to surface in Val. To solve the attack, Strange creates a band around the Earth to stop the cosmic rays and not only does Ghost lose his control over his slaves but is unable to maintain his mist form. He, Attuma, and his army are quickly routed, and the reunited Defenders return home at story end. In the 2nd feature: cont. the story prologued in AV1 #115. Strange has figured a way to contact the Black Knight's spirit with the Orb of Agamotto, but the spell, on its return trip, is intercepted by Loki and Dormammu, who replace the message. They are informed that the only way to save the BK is to find the Evil Eye. Story cont. in AV1 #116.

    "Madness is...the Miracle Man!"

Altered retelling of the events in #3, Miracle Man's jail stint, his conning the secret of mind over matter out of Lighthorse, and then wiping out his whole tribe with the new found ability. At story end, Miracle man drops the Ff and the whole Keewazi tribe into a crevice.

COM:     Story cont. from AV1 #116. Avengers appearance. Strange learns from the Surfer (who has returned with his piece of the Evil Eye) that the Avengers are now involved in the scavenger hunt, and the Avengers believe the Defenders to be an evil entity (a mistake helped along by Loki). In the 2nd feature: Val and Hawk in Monterey, Mexico, but Iron Man beats them to the Instituto Tecnologico. Iron Man is getting the better of the archer until a repulsor blast is misdirected and he has to stop to save a student and loses that portion of the Eye. In the 3rd feature: Strange is in Indiana and locates the Eye; but before he can escape, Panther and Mantis arrives, and she uncovers his housewife disguise. While Panther and Strange are duking it out, Mantis saves them both from a local with a shotgun. At story end, Strange calls on the Vishanti to remove the strength from their bodies and gets away with the prize at story end. Cont. in AV1 #117.

The fight against Miracle Man goes badly until Lighthorse steps in and removes what they consider their responsibility. At story end, the negative zone alarm in Reed's lab is flashing a warning. In Snake-Dance's cabin, with the sun setting, Hellstrom asks the medicine man to bind his hands in a chain of Ankhs and lock him in a room, and while GR and Linda are clashing, a motorcycle gang arrives. Dawson, who recognizes Johnny begins kicking the crap out of him to prove he's the better man, and GR doesn't use his powers to resist in fear of revealing his secret ID. Linda takes GR to the underworld, leaving Rocky alone with the thugs, and GR faces down Mephisto. Sam unwittingly releases the Son of Satan, and, at story end, just as Mephisto is about to kill GR, an unseen player interrupts the scene. Story continues in MSL1 #12. Gil Kane cover.

Son of Satan escapes from the medicine man, and after questioning he and Sam, summons his chariot and goes off looking for Linda. He catches up with Big Daddy and his men, tears them apart, then viciously questions Rocky, before leaving her to the desert. He confronts Mephisto (erroneously called his father), and, utilizing his Trident, he rescues Linda and Johnny. On the surface, Mephisto tries to kill them with a volcano eruption, but the flying chariot saves the day again. At story end, Son of Satan leaves them in a clearing and rushes off because of the coming dawn.

In LA, Hulk locates his piece of the Evil Eye, and Thor tries to reason with him to turn against his team mates. the two start pounding on each other, tearing up the city, until the fight is halted by the arrival of both teams. In the 2nd feature: The clock is turned back an hour, and Namor arrives at their HQ with the Avengers after having uncovered the lies from both sides propagated by Loki and Dormammu. They team up after collecting Thor and Hulk and decide to join the pieces together to flush out the real villains, and Asti arrives to collect the Eye. He escapes them, and at story end, Dormammu appears and begins merging his dimension with ours, turning the citizens into monsters. Continue in AV1 #118.

He mops the floor with them, then relates his origin to Wyatt, how he was an outcast, sentient insect on a hostile world and how he found the Tyanna spacecraft and rose above what he was. At story end, he hurls the FF and Wyatt into the negative zone and vows to return. Signed cover by Rich Buckler and Frank Giacoia.

Strange, after wiping Fury's memory of the battle with Dormammu and Loki, uses the Eye to cure BK, but instead it draws the team back to the 12th century where his spirit had been drawn. They find him in the middle of a battle during the Crusades trying to rescue Richard, captured by the Arabs and guarded by the giant gnomes created by Chondu. They sneak into the castle and break the king out, but when the first group is overcome by the gnomes and the duplicity of Prince John, the other half of the team intercedes with little better result until they discover the weakness of the creatures is water. However, despite the victory, John secures the Eye, until its true owner arrives, and the two villains are punished for their deeds. At story end, Dane decides to stay in the past; the team returns to the present, and Hawk, Namor, and Hulk drop from the roster. Title goes bi-monthly again.

    "The End of the Fantastic Four!"

Alicia lured to the Balkans by dr. Stutgart. Annihilus using his Gene Transmuter to get at the untapped energy present in Franklin. The FF come to the rescue, but realize that a catastrophic build up of psychic force has been unlocked in their son. Reed, having no other recourse, uses his Anti-Matter Gun which stops the build up, but also shuts down Franklin's mind. At story end, everyone but medusa walks out on Reed. COM:    1st app. of GR's Flame Cycle. Death of Big Daddy Dawson. Son of Satan leaves GR and Linda in the desert with no means of transportation, and she shows GR how to make a cycle with his Hell-fire. Because it is insubstantial to her, he rides for help solo, but turns back to the injured Johnny causing a pile-up on the highway before being brought back to the hospital. Dawson, now solo catches up with Rocky and decides to hold her for ransom. GR escapes from the hospital again and clashes with Dawson, who, after a dangerous chase, ends up smashing into the side of a tractor trailer and is killed.   At story end, the police are in pursuit of GR again.
