The Surfer, after leaving Mantis on a safe planet, rushes to Zenn-La and destroys the three Kree Destructoids that have invaded the planet. Surfer issues the warning to leave his home planet alone, and, after confronting Shalla about Mantis, decides to take the message straight to Kree-Lar. Mantis transfers her consciousness to Earth and overhears in the Elders meeting, learning that five of the six Soul Gems have been collected to do away with Galactus, but is caught eavesdropping by the Gardener. She sends a telepathic distress call which is received by Shalla, while Surfer arrives to confront Supremor with his terms. He agrees not to touch Zenn-La, but when the Surfer presses for Earth as well, Supremor absorbs the Surfer's soul with the sixth Soul Gem. At story end, Supremor tells Contemplator that he and the Elders will have to make due with only five of the Gems. Signed cover by Rogers and Terry Austin.

COM:    Surfer, trapped in the Soul Gem owned by Supremor experiences a surreal world in his battle to escape, including having Mantis/Shalla as his domestic wife. Nenora reports in to Aptak about the Soul Gem and Supremor's mental turmoil dealing with blue and pink consciousnesses.   As Supremor tries to keep control, Surfer's world turns toward combat with countless Kree soldiers and finally a huge tentacled creature and is aided by animal representations of his surf board. Shalla tries to contact Mantis, and Surfer makes contact with his board and it comes to his rescue. He escapes, taking the Soul Gem with him, and the Supreme Intelligence goes insane without the Gem keeping the two mental factions in check. At story end, Contemplator realizes the Elder's plan can't continue without the sixth Gem, and Shalla is taken by the Gardener.   Signed cover by Rogers and Terry Austin.

COM:    Elders of the Universe appearance. Nenora has assumed command of the Kree Empire. On a space platform in the Cone Nebula, the Elders prepare to enact their plan to destroy Galactus with the Soul Gems, and lure the Surfer, who has the sixth Gem, there with their hostages. When the Surfer gives up the Gem, the Grandmaster, always the poor sport, shoots the sphere prison away to keep the Surfer busy, but he's only able to save Shalla from the resulting explosion (Mantis assumed dead). The Elders lure Galactus there and attack him with the Gems, siphoning his energy off and feeding it into six corresponding planets. Surfer returns and helps Nova to temporarily stave off the attack, then sends the herald to blow up the nearby sun. It causes a black hole to open, and Galactus, the power flowing back into him, is the only thing that keeps them all from being swallowed. He collects them in a giant energy net, losing the Gems, Possessor, Astrologer and the Trader, and, at story end, prepares for retribution on those Elders that remain.

After they leave, he contacts Eternity in his true form, and learns that his brother had planned what transpired all along, making an eavesdropping Surfer not so happy that he was a pawn again. Aptak arrives on Kree-Lar posing as an ambassador from Waziliah, and it is revealed that he and Nenora were lovers, just before she poisons him to keep her secret safe. At story end, Galactus has indigestion from the unabsorbed Elders, and Death is not happy that he superceded her. Signed Walt Simonson cover.

COM:    Surfer and Nova come to Kree-Lar trying to find the trail of the Contemplator, Nenora, after agreeing to make Zenn-La and Earth neutral in the war, sends them to the Coalsack, where they are attacked by Reptyl's Space Pirates. They rout the attackers and follow them back to their hideout, where they assume disguises to search for the Elder. Elsewhere, a Kree outpost is decimated by someone looking exactly like the Surfer and with his powers. The Kree fleet arrives at Tarakar, but with shields operational, and the Skrull's are taken with their pants down. Congratulating the general, Nenora thinks now no one knows her secret identity, but Kylor survives. On Satriani, Empress S'Byll plans her next move after the assumed death of her rival and sends Krat to Earth. They find the Possessor, who has been traded to be the property of the Sinalinas in the Elder's bid to regain the Gems. By the time they find the other two, both Reed and Sue are being affected by the alien universe, and during the fight, her Malice persona resurfaces. She trades the Surfer for the Soul Gems, and at story end, leaves them and her husband to save herself.

Some bums in the park try to roll him, but his uncontrolled powers save him. While arguing about their son's future, Robbie's parents are abducted by Roarke , and Speedball inadvertently intervenes. After subduing the crooks, he beats a hasty retreat so no one recognizes him, and he realizes, at story end, after all the wild press about the matter, that he has to keep his ID a secret. In the second feature: Story depicting the origin of Speedball. Three unnamed thugs looking to steal rare metals from the Hammond Research Center, where Robbie has an after school job cleaning up for Doc. Benson. He sneaks into Lab 12 where the scientists are performing an experiment dealing with extra-dimensional energy sources, and, when the experiment takes an unexpected turn, he is accidentally exposed, giving him his kinetic powers and creating his costume. He runs afoul of the thugs on the roof who cause the first outbreak of his new abilities, and he collapses after the crooks beat a retreat at the arrival of the police and are killed in an accident in the subsequent chase. The police find Robbie on the roof-luckily he had reverted back to his lab clothes wile he was unconscious-and after questioning him, let him go. At story end, he decides to test his new powers and is trying to figure out what to do with them.

Reed and Surfer catch up with Sue and try to wrest the Gems from her, but Reed is distracted by the FF passing by their ship and accidentally touches one of them. He is transformed into an evil being who tries to absorb the Surfer's soul, then, in the heat of battle, he absorbs the chaos that created Malice from his wife, and, at story end, arises as the In-Betweener. COM:    The In-Betweener has been resurrected, and, when the three Elders arrive, it is revealed that they have been in league with him all along. The four disappear with the Soul Gems to attack Galactus, and Reed, Sue and Surfer follow as best they can in the damaged ship. The In-Betweener kills the Punisher, and the Trader takes out Nova; but the In-Betweener is unable to destroy the devourer. When the Elders try to prevent him from launching Galactus (and their trapped brethren) back into the black hole, he summons Death and has her take them-for which she is not pleased. The Worldship is sent through to the Magick Dimension, and Surfer gets Order and Chaos to save him by extracting the other Elders. Reed and Sue are reunited with Franklin, and, at story end, Galactus recovers and he wants revenge. Signed cover by Ron and Joe.

COM:    Series is a non-MU military adventure story depicting tales of the Marine Corps. First story begins with a flashback to events in Hue, South Vietnam in 1968 which lead to Thornton wanting to kill Miles-for having left him behind-a the reunion in '83 in Washington. Miles explains how he was wounded and couldn't come back for him and everything is forgiven. At story end, the Whittier family visits the Vietnam Memorial to see 'Uncle Tim's name before brother Andrew shipped off. In the second feature: Story of green Marine, Lyle, facing his fears during the invasion of the island of Betio in 1943. When his friend are killed around him, he musters the courage to take out a Japanese sniper nest, but at story end, his fears resurface.

    "Heavyweights"

COM:    Order and Chaos send everyone back out of the black hole; Galactus clashes with the In-Betweener, and the Elders each have a Soul Gem. When the In-Betweener realizes that he can't use his power on Galactus and that he can't beat the devourer in his own universe, he tries to drag him back into the mouth black hole. Franklin wants to use the Ultimate Nullifier like they did when they first encountered Galactus, but, after Reed thinks he's talked him out of it, Franklin tries to do it himself. Sue stops him by making the device invisible, and everyone teams up, even the Elders, to push Galactus through all the way. In the Magick Dimension, Order and Chaos destroy their creation, and send everyone else back to their own dimension. At story end, everyone is safe, and Nova rushes into Surfer's arms in front of Galactus.

    "Parable Pt. 1"

COM:    Surfer has come among men posing as a homeless person (Shalla appears only in a stylized memory), until the arrival of Galactus, who, to get around his pledge not to attack the Earth, sets himself up as a god and tells mankind to ignore the laws of man and do what they want, leading to anarchy. Candell, taking advantage of the situation, uses his flagging TV ministry and sets himself up as the prophet of Galactus, and helps to lead his fellow man down the path of destruction. Surfer confronts the evangelist, but only succeeds in getting his sister on his side before trying to tackle his old master. The people, so taken in by the 'god', turn on Surfer and attack him, and Galactus, disregarding the safety of his flock, begins tearing up the town trying to stop his old herald. Elyna tries to talk sense into her brother, but he has her removed, and, at story end, reveals his plot for world domination, Galactus being only the first stepping stone.

COM:    Story cont. from PUN AN #1. Eternals appearance. HE convinces the Eternals that, for the betterment of mankind, he needs a map of the Surfer's DNA. Before Nova and Surfer part, she kisses him again, and he returns to Earth in time to see the Super-Skrull reforming from where he was caught in the radiation belt (from ALF #10). SS, not aware of recent events, attacks him, and they fight until they are both captured by the Eternals and brought back to Olympia. Surfer fills him in on the situation back home, and the two work together to escape the scanning pyramids. Knowing that he may be the last hope of his kind to regain their shape changing abilities, Surfer holds off the Eternals to allow him time to escape. At story end, they let him go and he plans to look into HE's plans for mankind. In 2nd feature: Nova returns to Galactus, giddy for the new love she's found in the Surfer, and finds her master dying. The Elders he tried to ingest are killing him, and at story end he orders her to seek aid from Sue and Reed Richards, and she contacts Surfer, who rushes to fetch them. In 3rd feature: After being blown up in SS3 #9, Mantis wakes up in her house with a terrible head ache and the inability to communicate with her plants. Unsure of what's happening, she decides, at story end, to seek the help of the Avengers (cont' in WCA #37). In 4th feature: 10 pages of pin-ups of Surfer, Nova, Mantis, Shalla Bal, Nenora, Supremor, Kylor with Ripan and Aptak, S'Byll, and Galactus. In OotHE: Herbert and Jonathan discover Uranium in Wundagore and make enough money to hire Grabsheid to design and construct their Citadel of Science. Jonathan and Herbert go to investigate a creature that scared the socks off little Jessica, and, at story end, Wyndham is introduced to his new Moloid Subterranean workers by a mysterious stranger.
