Ba-Bani An Earthlike humanoid race from the planet
Ba-banis.
First appearance: AV1 #219
Badlands A mystic realm created by Demon-Bear.
First appearance: NM #20
Badoon (Brotherhood of) An advanced,
lizard-like, humanoid race from the planet Lotiara, who are very conquest
oriented and have the capability of turning themselves invisible. They are
the oldest known race, older than the Kree and the Skrulls, but they took many
millennia to reach technological maturity because of a genetic defect that
caused the male to hate the female. The breeding time was thus reduced to
one a year, and both were reduced to savage animals during the process.
The males eventually enslaved the females and then, when the race had developed
technologically, they left them behind to seek the stars, returning only once a
year to spawn. The male eggs, after hatching are bred to be Badoon
soldiers, and the females are retuned to the homeworld. They
first came to Earth feigning friendship to mankind, but the Silver Surfer, who
was not susceptible to their invisibility powers, learned of their real
intentions and fought to save his adopted world. Unfortunately, because of
their invisibility, the humans took the destruction to be the sole
responsibility of the Surfer, but this backfired for the Badoon, when the
military began to bombard the Surfer, forcing them to beat a hasty retreat.
Later, they side with the Kree in the Second Kree-Skrull War and try to ambush
Empress S'Byll in space and make an attempt on her on her home planet of
Satriani. In the future, they have taken over the solar system and are using the humans,
in various adapted forms, as slave labor. In the 31st century, they have
invaded Earth and all of its holdings, and only small bands of freedom fighters,
such as the Guardians of the Galaxy stand any chance of liberating the human
race. Their number includes: Brother Royal (leader) [first seen member],
Supreme Commander Drong, Maz, Yur (from year 3001) [MSH #18], Lordsire Droom,
Koz [DEF #27],
First appearance: SS1 #2 Origin:
DEF #28
Badoon, (Sisterhood of)
The female, non-violent side of the Badoon race residing on the Badoon homeworld.
they resemble their male counterparts, but they are fiercer and stronger (but
lacking in the male cunning and slyness), and have hair all over their scaly
bodies. They were enslaved by the males and left on the planet to their
own devices, the males returning only one a year to breed and to return any
female eggs that are produced. Both male and female seem to be unaware of
what the other has accomplished since the male exodus from the planet.
Members include: Tolaria (queen) [1st named member],
First
appearance (unnamed): DEF #27
Named and origin: DEF #28
Badoon Elite Guard
The crack platoon of Badoon troops in the 31st century and their Zom
soldiers. They were thrown at the Guardians of the Galaxy, actually
boarding the Captain America, to find the unknown power source that their

'killing' him, they captured the rest of the Guardians to put them before a
firing squad.
First

The headquarters of Lordsire Droom and the Badoon officers overseeing the
defenses and prison camps of Earth in the 31st century. When the Defenders

members with the magical help of Dr. Strange. They were in the thick of it
when Strange himself arrived and paralyzed the remaining troops before going
around to the prison camps and freeing the inmates with jack Norris' help.
First
appearance: DEF #29
Badoon Mento-Programmer
An old helmet-like device employed by the Badoon to brainwash their soldiers
into acting without reason and attacking any convenient target, all with war
propaganda fed directly into the wearer's mind. Two ended up on Earth in
the 20th century. One was unwittingly pawned to Milton Childs and was
being hunted by the Guardians of the Galaxy, and the other ended up in the
Hudson River and the radiation from it and a constant string of play back
propaganda altered a normal eel into the creature, Eelar.
First
appearance: GS DEF #5

The Badoon's weapon of weapons that was sicced on Silver Surfer during their
first invasion of Earth. It is a huge, incredibly strong, heavily armored

Balder the Brave The Norse god of light.
He is considered the best and brightest of the Norse gods, even above Thor, and

bravery came into question on the battle field when he stopped to put a bird
back in its nest instead of accompanying the other warriors in pursuing routed
Strom Giants and he was accused of being a coward and sentenced to undergo the
Test of Mortal Death. He proved himself unflinching even in the face of
certain death, and was rewarded by Odin by making him immortal. Often compatriot and loyal backer of Thor,
he has followed the thunder god (and even stood in as protector of Earth)
through some of his most daring adventures. Invulnerable to anything except to mistletoe.

head of the crime organization. As his first act, he had his men steal
nuclear materials being shipped through NYC, then he used his newly created
Tri-Man II/Birdroid to steal a huge amount of cash from Citibank, then he used
the cash to pay a foreign scientist to use the nuclear material to make a bomb
with which he could hold the entire city ransom. He didn't count on the
combined efforts of Spider-Man (whom he had struck blind earlier) and Daredevil
putting a halt to his evil plans.

strength of V proved to much for him. When V and his nephew were escaping

Black Widow (Natalia 'Natasha' Alianovna Romanova)
One time Russian spy (trained by the Commissar) and nemesis of Iron Man operating at first in street
clothes and eventually in a specially made costume designed by Dr. Brushnov, she
eventually rebelled against her Red masters and defected to the US, joining
SHIELD as one of their undercover operatives, working often with the Avengers
because of her love interest with Hawkeye. Soon afterward she broke away
from the espionage business and began a solo career as a hero in an updated
version of her original costume, assisted by her old friend Ivan Petrovitch (the
man who had found her as a child and raised her, calling her his little Tsarina),
during which time she became the partner and love interest of Daredevil.
After this, to forget her love for DD, she applied as a language teacher at UCLA
and became a founding member of the short lived Champions [CHM #1], and then joined as
a long term member of the Avengers, becoming, for an extended period, its
chairperson, during which time she changed her outfit one last time, opting for
the lighter colored unitard with a spider emblem on the chest and shorter hair.
Her original costume (ToS1 #64), designed by the Russian scientist specifically
to help her best Iron Man, was a fishnet and boustiere deal with a horn-rimmed
mask to match Hawkeye's, and equipped with special suction cup devices in her
shoes and a retractable tether shooter, all to give her some of the abilities of
her namesake. Her Widow Sting was added later. Her second costume
(AA2 #1) was an adaptation of the first, lingerie giving way to an all over
black body suit, no mask, and red hair instead of her original black, but with
all the gimmicks from the first. The third costume (AV1 #?) was more of a
refinement than a change to reflect her maturity, giving up the black costume
for a gray one with a black widow emblem on the chest, and she cut her hair
short. REL: Widower of Red Guardian I.

Blaze, Johnny
(see: Ghost Rider IV, 'Frank Ryder') A motorcycle stunt
rider who sold his soul to Mephisto to save the life of his step-father and was
bonded to the demon Zarathos to form the Ghost Rider, which, although it is in
his body, takes on the flaming skeletal appearance of the demon. As a boy,
his father had been killed performing stunts for the Crash Simpson Daredevil
Cycle Show, and he was adopted by the proprietor and his wife and raised as
their own, teaching him the business with the idea that he would one day take
over the reins. However, a misfortunate accident caused the death of his
'mother', and she made him promise on her death bed never to ride in the show, a
promise that estranged himself to the rest of his adoptive family, who thought
him cowardly not to take up riding. He became a mechanic instead, until,
after the show got it's first big gig at Madison Square Garden, he found out
that his father was dying from terminal cancer. Willing to do anything to
spare those he loved, he sold his soul to the devil (Mephisto) to cure his step
father, but Crash, not realizing he'd been cured, went out with a band by trying
to break the motorcycle jumping record. When he failed and was killed,
Johnny broke his promise and set the record himself (22 cars), but his victory
wasn't long lived. Mephisto came to collect on the debt and was going to
turn him into his engine of vengeance by bonding the demon, Zarathos to him, but
the process was interrupted by the pure souled Roxanne. She saved his
life, but not before he was cursed to become the Ghost Rider by night.
Afterward, she and Johnny shared joint ownership of the Show, and he became the
star performer as himself and as the Ghost Rider. Later, Johnny began to
loose control of the GR entity when Zarathos started gaining more and more of
his own, until the two were in almost constant battle for dominance over his
body. He also ended up joining the Quentin Carnival as their headliner,
during which time he kept his alter ego a secret. The two were separated

Bounty Hunter (Haskill)
A spectral bounty hunter working for an unnamed demon who, using powers similar
to those of Ghost Rider IV, collects souls for his employer to pay off his debt.
Like GR, his face is a flaming skull and he wears all black in the style of
cowboys from the old west (hat, jeans, long coat, boots), and rides a demonic
stallion. His weapon of choice is a double barreled shotgun which
now shoots Hell-fire instead of bullets, and when he uses it on a mark, it
reduces them down to just bones. In the old west, he had been an amoral
bounty hunter who had developed an infamous reputation for killing his marks,
not in a fair fight or out of necessity, but because he liked it and because it
was safer to kill a man while he's asleep or from behind. After bringing
in his last mark as a human, he was accosted by the younger brother of the dead
man, and, after back shooting the youth, he was killed himself before the boy
died. He ended up in the domain of an unnamed demon, who chose to appear
to him as a bartender in a saloon. The demon made him a deal, if he
collected fifty souls of his choosing, he could have his own soul back.
Haskill agreed and was granted his current powers and appearance, and for
decades has been hunting down marks for his employer, using old style wanted
posters to guide him. In the end, he was to collect the soul of Johnny
(Ghost Rider IV) Blaze, but he failed when he was attacked by the spirits of
some of his past marks when he was still alive. They took him with them
back to Hell using Hell-fire lariats.
