Eel I (Deceased)
(Leopold Stryke) A costumed criminal who, beyond increased agility, had no
real enhanced powers, but did use a body suit that could deliver a lethal jolt
of electricity. The body suit was blue and purple and covered him from
head to foot except for the eye slits and acted pretty much as a second skin. He started his career as an agent
for the Maggia clashing with the Human Torch II. Later, he was grudgingly
teamed with the Porcupine and Plant Man (one of the Torch's former enemies).
Shortly afterward, he and his cohorts decided to explore the new Celestial Mind
Control when it promised greater power. His power wasn't increased, but it
was made more focused by the mental therapy [DEF #37]. Soon afterward, he
was hired by the Delazny Studios in Hollywood as a marine life advisor for a
single episode of the Stunt-Master TV show to make ends meet while he figured
out what to do with his Disintegration Ray. His secret ID was uncovered by
Johnny (Ghost Rider IV) Blaze, and, after fighting with GR, he was killed by the
Gladiator, who wanted to secure the device for his new employer, the Enforcer. GA: Serpent Squad

Eel I's Disintegration Ray
A device which could reduce anything down to smoldering rubble in seconds.
It is uncertain whether Eel invented the device or stole it himself, but while
in his possession, it piqued the interest of a mob boss in Los Angeles, who
hired the Gladiator to secure it from him. He was killed in the process of
trying to escape with it, and the bulky device fell into the hands of the
Enforcer, who had a scientist miniaturize it. He was able to reduce it to
the size of a medallion and then finally down to the size of a ring, still with
full power [GHR2 #22].

Eelar An
ordinary eel that was mutated into a propaganda spewing giant anthropomorphic
version of itself from the emanations of a Badoon Mento-Programmer that had been
lost in the Hudson River. Besides being huge and incredibly strong and
interested only in attacking anything around it, it also had the ability to
mentally control other sea life. Both the Defenders and the Guardians of
the Galaxy were fought to a stand still by this beast, who was mindlessly busy
tearing up the city, until Dr. Strange figured out the truth behind its origin.
After the rest of the teams subdued it temporarily, he was able to transform the
creature back to its original state.

Egg-head
(Elihas Starr, see: Prof. Carl Striker) (Deceased) A
scientific genius who turns to a life of crime after he is fired by the US
Atomic Energy Board for selling secrets to the enemy. His first job on he
outside is to stop Ant-Man I, but is thwarted, which starts him down the road as
a life long adversary of Hank Pym. After prison and many many failures, he is
left down and out, living in a
flop house, and after being refused money by his wealthy model niece, he set a
bomb in her boy friend's car not to kill her but to disfigure her [GS DEF #4].
After securing his freedom from prison, he stole a space lab from NASA and put
together the second team of the Emissaries of Evil expressly to help him steal
the Star of Capistan to help him realize his dreams of world domination.
The plan failed but he learned a very valuable lesson of how it's bad to use
other people, from one of his henchmen, Cobalt Man, who got revenge on him by
imploding right behind him with the hope of killing him [DEF #43]. REL:
Uncle of Trish Starr. GA: Masters of Evil II, Emissaries of

Egghead's Android
Not a true android, this started as an ordinary clothing store mannequin which
the evil genius coated in his special clay to bulk up the body and give it
strength, and then bathed it in his Living-Cell Beam to give it life, and his
Ultra-Beta Beam to make it grow to equal Giant-Man I in size and to give him
full mental control over the creature. The final result was a huge
humanoid automaton that he could control remotely with his Beta-Ray Mental
Energy Transmitter and whose mass he could increase or decrease at will, and
which he sicced on Giant Man and his partner the Wasp in a prearranged
deathtrap. Unfortunately, the Transmitter worked both ways so that Egghead
saw, heard, and felt everything that the Android was, so when Giant Man deduced
that by spinning the almost weightless Android at high speed would have the
effect on the controller as if he were actually being spun himself, Egghead was
forced to release his mental hold over his creation. The guideless
automaton eventually walked off a pier into the river.
First
appearance: TtA1 #61
Egghead's Beta-Ray Mental Energy Transmitter
A device with which the evil genius could command his Living-Cell Beam enervated
constructs remotely by boosting his already established mental control.
The device had one draw back, however. In giving him the ability to see,
hear, and feel whatever his creation was experiencing, he could also be affected
by the feedback from that sensory input. He used the helmet to control his
Android creation against Giant-Man I and the Wasp, but was thwarted when he was
made dizzy by the giant Avenger when he spun the avatar over his head.
First
appearance: TtA1 #61
Egghead's Living-Cell Beam
A machine devised by the evil genius to give seeming life to objects made from a
special clay-like substance he uses to sculpt his automatons.
First
appearance: TtA1 #61
Egghead's Mento-Transmitter
A device invented by the evil genius which could transmit matter over great
distances. It was first used by his henchmen in the second Emissaries of
Evil to escape from the Defenders in NYC to his orbiting space lab over the
North Pole.
First
appearance: DEF #42
Egghead's Space Lab
An orbiting station which he effortlessly stole from NASA and first used as his
base of operations for the second Emissaries of Evil.
First
appearance: DEF #42
Egghead's Ultra-Beta Beam
A large device created by the evil genius that not only enervates the special
clay-like substance with which he sculpts his special automatons, making the
substance feed on itself and causing the
construct to grow, it also establishes the mental link he has with his
creations. Used to grow his Android to the size of his foe, Giant Man I
and make the contact so he could use his Beta-Ray Mental Energy Transmitter to
command it at a safe distance.
First
appearance: TtA1 #61
Egghead's Vibration Ray
A hand held device which allows the evil genius to alter the mass of any object
and with it, somehow unlock doors.

Ego, the Living Planet
A sentient planet in the Black Nebula, threatened the Rigellian home planet
until he was defeated by Thor. When the thunder god came again to that neck of the universe,
this time to defeat Galactus, he aided the planet along with the nomadic
Wanderers. The victory involved Ego allowing the alien race to take up
residence on his surface. Later, he was revealed to be one of the Elders
of the Universe (SS3 #4). Ego usually appears as an elderly man's face
covering one whole hemisphere, but can produce a man sized anthropomorphic
rendition of himself, connected by tethers to his surface. He has produced
other of his Protozoid constructs mainly to defend himself, like the
Anti-bodies. In another confrontation with Galactus, the devourer
attached a propulsion unit to his south pole and sent him careening across the
universe. He eventually gained control, but the extra output of energy
necessary to maintain the control forced the living planet to consume other
living matter to sustain himself, much in the way Galactus does.

Elder Gods The
first incredibly powerful primal life placed upon the Earth by Demiurge.
At first there were only three, Gaea, Chthon, and Set, (but later a fourth was
added, the Wild One) and for millennia they ruled the globe, until it was
brought to Demiurge's attention that their production of warring demons might
destroy the other life placed upon the planet and placed under the protection of
Mother Nature. Together, Gaea and Demiurge produced Atum, who rid the
world of the demons as Demogorge, and forced Set and Chthon to flee to alternate
dimensions. Only Gaea remained as an underlying force on Earth, but from
their hidey holes, the other two keep watching and plotting their eventual
return. Members include: Set (1st mention) [CON #7] (1st appearance)

Elders of the Universe
A 5 billion year old group of powerful beings who are the last members of their
individual races and whose lives are ruled by separate singular obsessions,
pretty much identified by their names. These obsessions have often
caused them to have run-ins with many of the heroes over the years, but, unlike Galactus and the Celestials, they tend to
step beyond the amoral to the immoral and the self serving. None of the Elders are actually related to any other, but they
refer to one another as brothers. Later in their existence, the
Grandmaster tricked Death, and they became immortal {AV1 AN #16). Normally
they work individually or in small groups, but they did once collectively try
to end the universe by killing Galactus with the six Soul Gems. They had
seen everything and experienced everything in this reality and wanted to start
over with their obsessions on a fresh universe, and it has been said that if the
devourer should die, so would the universe. The plan of course, failed (SS3 #9). Their number consists of:

A team of super-criminals brought together by Electro for the soul purpose of
killing Daredevil. He spent months recruiting the team, choosing those
with the biggest grudges against the man without fear, and going to great
lengths to secure the members, calling Gladiator back from Europe where he was
working for the Maggia, and rescuing Stilt Man from the river (after he had
clashed with DD) and recharging his armor. When the team was assembled,
they started the assault by attacking DD individually over a period of several
days, and then finally having Leap Frog lead him into the ambush where all were
waiting in a nearby power plant. Electro's plan for revenge came unraveled
quickly when the other members decided to attack on their own, getting their

world domination. After getting out of prison for bombing his niece, he
stole an orbiting space lab from NASA for their HQ and then recruited the other
members, winning Rhino and Solarr over with the promise of riches, and taking
advantage of the mental instability of Cobalt Man. When he believed the
Star to be in the possession of Dr. Strange (supposedly put in his safe keeping
by Omar Karindu the Star's current keeper) he had his henchmen attack the
Sanctum Sanctorum, and, even when the search turned up bust, rather than admit a
mistake, Egghead sent in Cobalt Man, who, in his defeat, started to go critical.
When that failed, he had to admit that the Star might still be in the hands of
the head of the Four Cult, and sent the others after him, but they were defeated
by the Red Rajah. The rest of the team came to an end when Cobalt Man, his
mind restored by Red Guardian II, took his revenge on Egghead by causing an

The android melded with him and forced him to take him back to Earth, there he

he was supposed to be away at college, returns as a costumed criminal and rises
quickly to the head of the LA crime syndicate (making use of the Eel I's
Disintegrator Ray), taking over the rackets who had held the noose over his
father's studio all these years. His costume is a form fitting body suit
with a metal face mask, but he has no special powers. His first act as a
rising criminal was to hire the Gladiator to steal a lethal device from Eel and
to have a scientist miniaturize it for ease in use. He used the
disintegrator (in the form of a medallion) and killed the current boss in LA and
took over his racket, but while testing the next stage in it's miniaturization,
he clashed with Ghost Rider IV and the ring was lost. Soon after, he
teamed up with the Water Wizard (who recovered his ring) and tried to kill GR,
but the plan failed and his mask was removed to show Collier's face [GHR2 #24].

cared more about some old dead scientist's papers than their own live students.

holder, to meet him in a contest where they would contend for those self same

all jerk and offered the trophy to Blaze, saying that the stuff he'd done on the
last day he'd never dreamed of doing. But Johnny declined and they agreed

rainforest in Brazil, even if it meant the death of all the construction workers
hired by the developers. Their plans are thwarted by the New Warriors, and
all but Terreformer is turned over to the local authorities. Later, the
team reformed with a replacement for their pyrokinetic, Firewall and popped up

Forever Yesterday
A short lived alternate reality created by Sphinx II employing the power of the
Ka where the Egyptian Empire remained one of the world powers with her in the seat
of control and everything from our reality has been translated with an Egyptian
twist. Its deviation from our reality began back when Moses confronted the
wizard of Ramses II, but this time the wizard won and he became the pharaoh's
most trusted confidant. Decades later, a peasant woman stumbled upon the
Ka Stone and brought it to the wizard who uses it to become the Sphinx, and
together they forge the Empire through the centuries and quietly guided the
course of modern civilization. In the new world, dubbed the United States
of Assyria, an uprising by the colonists led to the abolishment of slavery and
freedom for the non-Egyptian races, and there was peace until the deadly culture
clash between the Anglo-Slavic states of Europa and Slovakia led to the
first world war. The Sphinx's involvement in the affair brought the War to
and end, and he shifted his seat of power from Cairo to New Memphis City on
Maqamam Island in hopes that it would prove a signal to getting the world back
on his peaceful course. But a second world war erupted when the Egyptian,
Assyrian, and Anglo Saxon forces were forced to join together against the common
foe, the Pacific-Asian Union. The Pacasians developed the atomic bomb
first and dropped them on the social hub of the planet and home of the Sphinx.
With is great power, he was able to save the city by the outlying tri-state area
of New Memphis, New Hebrides, and Aknatonicut were obliterated into an
uninhabitable wasteland and millions died. The war was eventually declared
a stalemate, but the Sphinx, exhausted emotionally and physically, relinquished
his power, granting his immortality to his wife's cat and granting her the power
of the Ka Stone. He died, leaving the second Sphinx as the supreme ruler,
and hers was not a benevolent rule. The following decades saw the coming
of the super powered beings, and she consolidated enough of them to remain on
her throne; but many were against her tyranny and became rebels including a band
of mutants led by the Magneto of that reality. In the end, four heroes,
Marvel Man, Firestar, Nova, and Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher) used her beloved
cat to force her to face the truth of Sayge, and, when she realized the error of
what she had done, she changed reality back, removing everyone's memories of the
event.

(deceased) The awkward, uncouth alien member of Reptyl's Space Pirates, who, because of his
amorousness toward the disguised Nova II, uncovered her and the Silver Surfer
who had infiltrated their hideout looking for the Contemplator. Although
basically humanoid, he has pendulous flaps on either cheek and he has a great
deal of trouble with the English language which devolves quickly in just
speaking in rhyme (although it is revealed that he does it purposefully to make
himself seem more clever). The Cotati used his feelings
toward the Herald of Galactus to get him to free her, and, even after his ship
was destroyed, he claimed he would never forget her. He becomes the pawn
of the Contemplator who manipulates him into being a Kree hero by killing his
master, Reptyl, and eventually gets him put on the throne of the Kree Empire by

everyone and raises taxes time and time again to support his extravagant life

gets him assassinated by a Silver Surfer Robot at the hands of Generals Ael-Dan

Furmintz, Harmon
(see: Terrax) The
elderly visionary CEO of Genetech who was so involved in the process of creating
his own race of super human beings that he lost sight of the damage and harm his
company was causing to make it happen. A child prodigy, he graduated from
Stanford University by the age of fifteen, and because of his genius, he was one
of the candidates for the Project Rebirth program in 1940, but was denied because
of his hemophilia. In the fifties, he expanded his genetics knowledge
working at Stark Industries under Howard Stark in their biochemical division and
even had a hand in the education of Reed Richards. But every time, he
touched greatness but never could grasp the brass ring himself.
Unfortunately, this series of near missed opportunities led him to the project
to produce his own super humans, creating the team Psionex, and this near mania
made him not only authorize less than moral acts but overlook the obvious
repercussions of the program. Unfortunately, his mania continues to the
point where he believes the only way for his dream to continue is to release the
energy pattern of Terrax his company was storing upon himself in hopes of
creating a viable super hero, but the villain's sentience quickly took control
and recorporated itself using his body. It is undetermined whether Harmon
is dead or the process can be reversed.
