Galactus (Galan)
(The Planet Devourer) The oldest creature in the universe (having survived
from the last universe) who, as a force of nature created as a balance between
Eternity and Death, must travel around the universe in his Worldship and, with
special equipment, drain the life force from living planets to sustain himself.
He is not evil, being above the concept of right and wrong, but over the
millennia, he has destroyed countless civilizations, for which many have sought
revenge, but never successfully. He is immortal and it is been said that
if he were to die, the universe would die with him. Centuries ago, after
doing this solo for so long, he took on his first Herald from the planet Zenn-La,
a deal he struck with Norrin-Radd to save the peaceful world, granting the man
the power cosmic and creating the Silver Surfer. From then on, he allowed
his Herald to scout out planets to sate his appetite, but when the Earth was
approached as the next on his menu, the Surfer reconnected with his humanity and
turned against his master. Galactus imprisoned him on Earth and soon after
found his second Herald, Gabriel, and a series of others, but none were ever as
capable as the original. His final choice, Nova II, his first female
Herald, awoke in him a bit of his long lost humanity and he has a special
relationship with her that he had with no other. His normal MO is, when he
reaches a planet chosen for his consumption, he assembles his equipment, that is
designed to break the planet down into digestible energy, and feeds until the
planet is devoid of life energy, sometimes destroying it and sometimes leaving
it a lifeless ball. If there is any opposition which can't be handled by
his current Herald, he sends his cyborg, Punisher, to soften them up.
On his first attempt on Earth, he set his equipment up on the Baxter Building,
but was faced by the combined might of the Surfer, the Watcher, and the
Fantastic Four, and was sworn to leave the planet be when the Ultimate Nullifier
was stolen from his ship and used to threaten him.

Galactus' Invisible Barrier
The barrier placed around the Earth to keep his traitorous herald (he turned
against his master in favor of the humans) from leaving the planet, stripping
him of his space-time powers. The Silver Surfer spent years trying to
penetrate the obstacle not only imprisoning him, but keeping him from his love,
Shalla-Bal, helped by some of the greatest minds in the Marvel Universe, but he
finally escaped utilizing a plan put forth by, of all people, the Thing, when it
was suggested that it was only the Surf board that was keeping him from passing
it. Soon after, the Surfer rescued his ex-master from servitude to the
Skrulls who had kidnapped his current herald, Nova II, and, as a reward, the
Barrier was dissolved entirely.

Gamora Former
assassin of Thanos, she is known as the most dangerous woman in the universe,
with artificially enhanced strength and agility, and later becomes a long time
compatriot and love interest of Adam Warlock. Her appearance is very
distinctive, with the green fishnet body suit open from the waist, very long
black hair, and yellow mask pieces around either eye. As a child on Zen Whoberis,
her entire race, including her parents were wiped out by the Badoon, but she was
saved by the mad Titan, Thanos. For the first few years of her life with
him, she was raised as close to a normal child as he could muster, even growing
attached to her over time. Then he began her training to be his astral
samurai, schooling her not only in the ways of the martial arts but in formal
education as well. At the age of fifteen, disobeying her master at a
spaceport, she was brutally attacked and raped by a gang of aliens. Thanos
killed them and returned her broken body to the Sanctuary II where his
mechanized doctors replaced much of her physique to save her life, including
most of her skeletal and respiratory systems. When the work was
complete and she had recovered, she became stronger and more resilient than
before, but vowed never to be used or abused by anyone ever again. After
serving Thanos faithfully for years, she eventually broke away and became a
mercenary on her own, and it was at this time that she encountered Adam Warlock
in his first attempt to destroy the Magus. They became long time
compatriots, and, after her death, he absorbed her soul into the Soul Gem where
she resided in Soul World until the Silver Surfer informed them of Thanos'
resurrection and rise to power. Warlock found suitable host bodies for
himself, her, and Pip to inhabit, and he enhanced hers so that she would be even
stronger and faster than before. After the Infinity Gauntlet affair, she and
four others others were approached by Warlock to form a team to safeguard the
Gems from future misuse, and she was given the care of the Time Gem (WARI #2),
with which she began to receive telepathic premonitions. GA: Infinity Watch.

the Tyrant, their sworn enemy and reason for existence, beyond the boundaries of
known space a millennia ago, she and her sisters went into hibernation sleep
only to be awakened if the threat should resurface. It finally did, and
she was revived, but none of the others survived the centuries in space.
After first mistaking the Silver Surfer for an agent of her sworn enemy, the two
teamed up Beta Ray Bill, Jack of Hearts, Gladiator II, Terrax, Morg, and
Galactus to send him on his way again. After the fight, she paired off
with Jack and nearly gave up he sworn vows to be with him, but recanted at the

Priest lord of the Deviants who, after Brother Toad's defeat in IM1 AN #7,
seized control of the Deviant empire, and, taking upon himself the power of the
Dreaming Celestial, tried to lead his people to victory over the Eternals.
They, however, formed the Uni-Mind and boiled his soul from his body and blasted
it into space (ETN LTD #12). While a helpless cloud, he was contacted by
the entity Set, and he set in motion a plot to bring the Elder God into our
reality in the Atlantis Attacks crossover event. He tricked the Silver
Surfer into applying his cosmic power to reassemble his form and then he sought
out the Lemurian, Llyra, to be his partner in the conspiracy (SS3 AN #2).

Ghost Rider I (see: Phantom Rider I)
Ghost Rider II (see: Phantom Rider II)
Ghost Rider III (see: Phantom Rider III)
Ghost Rider IV
(see: Johnny Blaze, Zarathos, 'Frank Ryder') The flaming skeletal embodiment of the
vengeance obsessed demon, Zarathos who was bonded to the soul of the stunt
cyclist, Johnny Blaze. He has increased but not super human strength and
he is able to create hell-fire at will. He usually appears in Johnny's
riding leathers, and, although not impervious, he is able to survive any
injury (courtesy of Mephisto in MSL1 #9). At first his simply rode a very normal but suped-up chopper, but
later he learned to created a motorcycle using his Hell-Fire, and shortly after
that he produced his own special Skull Cycle. His
existence began with Blaze selling his soul to Mephisto to save the life of his
step-father, and, when the lord of the Netherworld came to collect, he didn't
intend to just whisk the soul to Hades. He had bigger plans. Intended
as the next of a long line of engines of vengeance he had created through the
ages by bonding his personal whipping dog, Zarathos, to various hosts, the
process was interrupted by Blaze's love, Roxanne Simpson, and never completed.
So, instead of the amnesiac demon of destruction that he normally created, he
got one tempered by the conscience of Blaze, who at first maintained control
over the Ghost Rider (and at first switching back and forth to his alter ego at
the rising and setting of the sun). Later, as the demon came more and more
into his own, the control got less and less, and the switch over became a battle
of wills between the two, who had become mortal enemies. For the first
part of his existence, Ghost Rider worked for the Crash Simpson Daredevil Cycle
Show and was even billed as one of its star performers. But later, after
the show fell on hard times and folded, and after Rocky was duped into
renouncing her protection of GR, losing him his invulnerability and his ability
to produce objects with his Hell-fire (although an unexpected appearance of
Christ made M renounce his claim on his soul) [GHR2 #9], he set out on his own and ended
up in San Francisco. There he befriended the Stunt-Master and for a time
acted as his stunt stand in at Delazny studios, at which time his powers altered
so that GR only appeared when danger was present [GHR2 #13]. About this
time, while running an errand on UCLA campus, he is out of necessity forced to
join with some other heroes and formed the short lived group, the Champions [CHM
#1]. After running
Challenger's gauntlet against the images of his past, he regains his ability to
form objects with his Hell-fire [GHR2 #19]. Shortly afterward, he develops
the ability to change back and forth at will [GHR2 #22], and after he is exposed
by Dr. Druid to be a real demon (and his two love interests, Roxanne and Karen
Page have seemingly found others), he leaves LA and starts a solo career [GHR
#26]. After experiencing a growing loss of control over his GR side, he
was used as a pawn by Dormammu against Dr. Strange, and with extra power, the
demon was for the first time able to take full control [GHR2 #29]. Soon
after, they become so separate, that they begin thinking of one another in the
third person [GHR2 #40]. Later, his titles are challenged by an upstart
named Flagg Fargo, (during which he uses a new costume, a white jumpsuit with
his initials on the chest) and because he hasn't been seriously practicing for
months, he is beaten, and most of his records are broken, including his number
of cars jumped and his triple somersault [GHR2 #46]. Later he attaches himself to
the Quentin Carnival for which he does a stunt riding act [GHR2 #63], and remains as a
member of the 'family' for quite a stint. During which, after he'd been
temporarily ousted by Steel Wind, he encountered the soul stealing menace of Centurious [GHR2 #74], who, after Johnny had been reunited with Roxanne, tried
to get his revenge in the small town of Holly, where he was using the Soul
Crystal to steal the citizens' souls. He nearly kills GR, but with the
help of Soul Eater, the spirits of both Centurious and Zarathos were trapped in
the crystal, finally freeing Johnny from his curse. GA: Champions

Ghost Rider's
Flame Cycle
The flaming chopper made of Hell-fire that GR can produce, absorb and reproduce
at will, and where it's a mystical manifestation, it is not subject to our
normal laws of physics, so it can be driven straight up a sheer wall or used to
jump across impossible spans. GR first produced it when he and the
Witch-Woman were stranded in the middle of the desert with no transportation,
and she showed him how to manipulate his power to create Hell-fire into
producing specific shapes simply by concentrating on them. Although the
bike remains unless he consciously removes it, it is at first insubstantial to
any but him, so he is the only one who can ride it.
First
appearance and origin: GHR2 #3
Ghost Rider's Flame Skull Cycle
After running the infernal gauntlet posed by the Challenger, GR's powers kick
back in full force and he's able to form objects with his Hell-fire again.
He produces another flaming cycle, but this time in the form of his Skull Cycle,
and, unlike the last incarnation, this version is able to support riders other
than him.
First
appearance: GHR2 #19
Ghost Rider's Skull Cycle
After his power to create objects out of Hell-fire is removed by Mephisto,
Johnny Blaze creates another bike modeled after the Stunt-Master's cycle, but
with a face plate with double headlights that resembles a skull.

Ghost Rider's Hell-Fire
The mystical flames accessed by most of the infernally rooted beings, it not
only surrounds his head in a corona of fire, he is able to use the flame
offensively either shooting it from his hands in varying amounts or by simply
pointing to an area and causing it to spring forth. At first, GR could only use
them as flames, but later, as Zarathos became more and more adept, he was able
to use it to produce a flaming motorcycle, and could access the cold flames
which can burn an impure soul.
first
appearance: MSL1 #5
Ghost Rider V
(Dan Ketch) Much like the last Ghost Rider, an other worldly being was
bonded to a human host, only this time, instead of a demon, it was one of the
spirits of vengeance. Also similar in appearance, with the flaming skull
and the riding leathers, this GR not only makes use of Hell-fire, but has a
weighted chain that it also uses as a weapon. It was created when an innocent bystander whose sister was
gunned down by Deathwatch,
and, covered in her innocent blood, he found the Ghost Rider motorcycle in a
nearby junk yard
and, touching the mystic gas cover, was transformed into the Spirit of Vengeance. GA: Fantastic Four.

Giant Amoeba
(deceased) A huge mutated amoeba that was created when, in the town of
Kyshtym in late fifties, geneticist Sergei (Presence) Krylov, while conducting
nuclear experiments, made a fatal mistake with radioactive waste disposal,
causing a reaction with his genetic engineering project. It is a large,
grayish green blob with arm-like pseudo pods and a rudimentary mouth.
Returning to the site of his greatest crime against humanity, Sergei, now the
nuclear powered Presence, sought to right the mistake he'd made years before by
destroying the monstrosity, which had in that time grown to enormous
proportions. Unfortunately, he remembered that he had engineered it to
absorb all kinds of energy, and instead of being affected by his nuclear blasts,
it consumed him. He was only rescued by the timely appearance of Red
Guardian II, who not only pulled him from his doom, but, joining her power with
his, were able to defeat the monster by creating a controlled nuclear blast.

Giant Man I
(Henry 'Hank' Pym, form. Ant-Man I, see: Goliath I, Yellowjacket I.) Hero
with the ability to increase his body size for limited time periods with his own
growth serum that he invented as Ant-Man While testing his new improved growth serum, he grew
uncontrollably to enormous size, destroying his lab and leading him to the
conclusion that he shouldn't grow to beyond 12 feet or his body would stop
supporting its own weight. It was at the same time that he changed to his
red and black costume (which was lined with his cybernetic doo-dads), and when he and Jan began using pre-measured capsules of
his growth and reducing serums. A short time later, he was able to change his size
mentally, at which time he created a shrinking and enlarging weapon which
prompted Jan designing a whole new costume for him, (blue and red with a
triangular shaped shoulder piece that hid his cybernetic controls-TtA1 #65).
Shortly afterward, he lost the ability to shrink to ant size (TtA1 #67) and even
to make it difficult to change sizes at all, so he settled on one size to be the
most efficient, 35 feet, and preset his helmet for that height alone (TtA1 #68).
Shortly thereafter, he begins down the road of mental instability when he
changes costumes and names again. REL: Husband of Wasp. GA: Avengers.
First appearance: TtA1 #49
Giant Man I's Converti-Car

and he needed to get ahead of the rampaging creature to evacuate the town he was
approaching.
First

Giant Man I's Ultra-Cybernetic Headgear
A secondary helmet that is designed to fit over the first
and is equipped with a ray weapon that is capable of either shrinking or
enlarging other objects and is controlled mentally. Hank created it to be
a more efficient member of the Avengers, and, after testing it on his cat,
Tabby, he got to field test it on a spider that had been exposed to his growth
serum. The new helmet was the catalyst for the Wasp designing a whole new
costume for him.

a parallel reality, a storehouse for all the truths in the universe, where, once
a person passes the Doors of Perception, the only entrance, all is laid bare in
their life. Not permitted to leave until the job is done, the caretaker,

governed by that person's self image- until that person faces the absolute truth
of their existence. Once at this dark place, the person is left to deal
with their personal guilt, denial, and doubt and can either face it and come to
terms with it and eventually leave, or not come to terms with their truths and
remain a prisoner there forever. The main entrance hall is a huge edifice
lined with countless doors, with a black and white checkered floor, without any
furniture and decorated in Rorschach test prints. Once through one of the
doorways begins a maze of passages from which there is only one exit. the
Silver Surfer, during the battle to stop Thanos and his Infinity Gauntlet, was

Hate-Monger II
(deceased) (form. Man-Beast, see: Mentor III) Man-Beast assumes the guise of the Hate-Monger
including his costume and his Hate Ray technology (which like the original is
able to make people feel insane hatred toward others) along with his Nazi-esque
propensities toward racial purity through genocide. After being defeated
by Nick Fury and SHIELD in his first outing, he develops a chip on his shoulder
about the director of SHIELD. His second outing, he lures him up to his
Space Station so that he can strap him into his Germ Bomb and kill two birds
with one stone. In his final outing, He builds a giant version of
his hate ray and turns America's youth against the older citizen, singling out
Fury, who was attending a concert with Laura Brown at the time. Fury
returns to the Space Station, and, after a brief fight, Hate-Monger escapes into
what he thinks is the security of his private chambers, but is set adrift in the
vacuum of space through an air lock and presumably dies [NFAS1 #11]. Later it is
revealed how, as Man-Beast, he had come to Earth from Counter-Earth, and, by
granting a local smuggler, Achmed Korba, power, started the Legion of Light
cult. Letting that germinate on it's own, collecting disciples and
hypnotizing them with the power of the light, until he had enough to subvert
them with his hate powers into an army with which he could conquer the world.
When the operation was uncovered and thwarted by Spider-Man, Razorback, and
Flash Thompson, he was knocked into his hate amplifier, causing an explosion and
was again presumed dead [SSM #15].

A weapon that was designed to deliver a payload of harmful biological matter
that would wipe out a large urban area. The bomb was part of a capsule
that could either be piloted to its intended destination or could be sent by a
preprogrammed flight plan. When Nick Fury tried to intervene in the plot
to drop the device from HM's Space Station on NYC, he was captured and placed
inside the cockpit. On the way down, an unknown force knocked one of MH's
Tracking Craft off course and into the bomb, causing it to detonate harmlessly
in the upper atmophere.
First

Man-Beast which was able to increase his hate casting abilities to the point
where he is able to affect not only the whole crowd at Yonkers Coliseum but is
able to transmit it via the television cameras to the whole viewing audience.
he was also able to use it to create an energy image of himself and stir the
already frenzied crowds further, giving the machine even more raw material to
absorb and use. It was destroyed when his inner sanctum was invaded by
Spider-Man, and during the ensuing battle, he was thrown onto the machine,
causing it to explode and presumable taking its creator's life along with it.

Hawkeye (Clinton
'Clint' Barton, Golden Archer, see: Goliath II) Originally
working for Carson's Carnival of Traveling Wonders as a failing trick archery
marksman (trained by the Swordsman), who became jealous of Iron Man I when his
exploits in saving some people on Coney Island drew more of a crowd than he did.
He created his fanciful archer costume and invented several trick arrows and
embarked on a career of being a hero to show up all the others. His first
time out, he was blamed for the bank robbery he had just routed and went on the
lam, pairing up with the Black Widow (when she was a Russian spy). Falling
in love with her, she duped him into several times confronting Iron Man I, and
even helped him create more complicated trick arrows. About the time the
Widow defected to the US, Hawk became a member of the second team of Avengers,
and, although he at first clashed with Captain America I often, he became one of
the longer running members of the team. Later, dissatisfied that he wasn't
endowed with a super power like many of the others, he tried his hand at being
the second Goliath, using Hank Pym's growth pills, but his true calling always
came back to archery. Clint had a short solo career after being bumped from the
Avengers [AV1 #109] where he was duped into working for Champion and clashed
with Daredevil and Black Widow [DD1 #99], before joining the Defenders briefly [DEF #7],
and for s short stint he kicked around with the Two-Gun Kid in Arizona after

High Evolutionary
(Herbert Edgar Wyndham, see: Ultimate) Brilliant geneticist that worked with
Jonathan Drew at Wundagore Mountain (created Spiderwoman I) who thought he could
vastly improve the human condition by bringing them to the next evolutionary
level. Although his
original intentions were good, after he and Drew parted ways, he began to build
what he believed to be a utopian society by accelerating the evolutionary
process in animal creating his New Men and even trained them in a rigid moral
code and made them his Knights of Wundagore. He makes the duel mistake of
kidnapping Jane Foster to help teach his new students, incurring the wrath of
Thor, and creating the Man-Beast, who became the antithesis of his goals.
Shortly thereafter, he took his people into space with the rocket which had been
designed into his Citadel of Science and formed a new society on a new satellite
which he called Wundagore II. Soon afterward, he began importing more and
more animals through agents he had on Earth, trying to perfect the process, but
the animals eventually all revolted. In the final revolt, which was held
at bay only by the captured Hulk, Wyndham was wounded and the only way to save
himself was to accelerate his own evolutionary process and he became an ethereal
being. Later, redonning his his red an white armor, he rescued Adam
Warlock from space, gave him his Soul Gem, and with his help created a new
planet on the opposite side of the sun from Earth which he again intended to be
a utopia, but the idea was spoiled by the presence of the Man-Beast (MPRM #1).
Later, in an attempt to create an evolutionary answer to the gods, he used some
genetic material from Thor and produced the being Nobilus. Soon after he
was witness to the birthing of a Celestial and the event destroyed his mind,
leaving him completely insane, from which he never recovered fully shown in his
attempt to use his process on the whole human race during the Evolutionary War
affair.

Hydra Overkill Horn
(destroyed) A devastating weapon created by Hydra that not only destroys its
localized target with incredibly powerful sonic
waves and in activating would set off all the atomic piles around the world. Employed against SHIELD by the Supreme Hydra by using Nick Fury as
the unwitting delivery system (it was hidden as one of the engines on the plane
in which Fury was allowed to escape). SHIELD's only defenses were a less
than successful Anti-Shock Seat and the untested Strato-Mine. Fury
directed the plane back toward its point of origin, Karnopolis, and bailed out,
and the Strato-Mine destroyed not only the plane and the Horn but the whole city

Hydra Skate-Board Unit A and B
Under the Imperial Hydra, two Tiger units were equipped with skate board like
motorized platforms that were used primarily for speedy personal transport.

side effect, it drastically shortened that person's lifespan. The
scientists used the Unicorn, whom they thought to be a brain-washed traitor to
his country, as their first Guinea pig, and the treatments had the expected
results and one extra, it reversed his brain-washing. When the newly
outfitted Unicorn wrecked the lab, he also destroyed the Activator along with
the scientists present.

mesmerize whole crowds of people. He and the trio traveled to different
venues and while they were there, they would use their special gift to not only
rob the box office but the patrons as well. Included in his all white
costume, looking like a futuristic space suit, are a series of home made
gimmicks, including a force blast from the belt and spike and gas jets in the
boots. He was stopped by Spider-Man, who had a certain degree of immunity
to their power, and, after circumnavigating all his gimmicks, managed to remove
his special headphones so he too fell prey to the song of his back up singers
and was left mesmerized. he was left webbed up to the mirror ball in the
