Tai (deceased)
One of the legal
guardians of Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher) and a master martial artist who
helped train him in his manic fight for justice to avenge his parents' murder.
She gives the appearance of being a frail old Oriental house keeper, but her
skills are such that she could single handedly fend off an attack form the
Hellions. It is later revealed that her powers extend far beyond the
physical martial arts, that she is a formidable sorceress (specializing in using
her darkforce powers to create sorcerous bands to bind her victims) and the head of the
Dragon Breadth Cult in Cambodia. She was the next to last generation of
selective breeding designed to bring about a brood of offspring that would
fulfill the prophesy and conquer the world. Not satisfied at being just a
part of that, she killed the other leaders of the cult and became supreme to
usher in their new era. She mated her own daughter and several other
genetic candidates with soldiers from the west, again by the prophesy, and
formed the Pact that their children would be handed over to her when the time
was right. She then, with Chord's help, set in motion events to comply
with the prophesy, having Dwayne Taylor's parents killed (also because Daryl
Taylor crossed her) to initiate the forming of the New Warriors, who would be
used as a sacrifice to bind the final ritual. Before the prophesy was
ready to come to fruition, one of the members of the pact, Diego Casseas, took
it upon himself to gather the offspring, now in their twenties, and to take the
power for himself, but Tai was ready and waiting for him. But, in the end,
she and the Left Hand were drawn into the Well of All Things causing its
destruction. REL:

A vastly powerful, megalomaniacal conqueror who was always
spinning some universe threatening plot usually in the service to his one true
love, Death. He once used the Cosmic Cube and made himself a god but
before he could realize his full potential, the Cube was smashed by Captain
Marvel I. Then he combined the power of the Soul Gems together and began
wiping out the stars one by one, and this time the combined might of the
Avengers, The Thing, Captain Marvel I and Adam Warlock couldn't stop him.
He was however turned to stone by the ghost of Warlock who had died during the
battle. Later, Death resurrected him when she perceived an imbalance in
the universe that could cause the deaths of everything everywhere, and he
decided to fix it by killing off 50% of life in the universe. To
accomplish this, he collected all of the Soul Gems and mounted them on one of
his gauntlets (creating the Infinity Gauntlet) which ended with him battling
most of the most powerful heroes from Earth and Nebula stealing the Guantlet for
herself. According to
his father, he has been evil since his childhood, when at the age of ten he
secretly killed his mother, making it look like an accident, and then had to
leave his home planet when he tortured and killed a young girl but was caught in
the act. After growing up in the outer rim of the galaxy he learned how to

confront the Magus, the villain pitted his duplicate against him (realizing that
there should only be one of each in any reality), and knowing
his own creation's duplicity toward him said that only one would be allowed to
pass through the door to keep him from teaming up with his twin. The real
Thanos defeated him and extracted that essence that had been ripped from his soul
and consumed it making himself whole again.

They (deceased)
Twelve soldiers that were technologically enhanced by Omega II to hunt down and
kill the High Evolutionary. They had been a dozen ordinary citizens on
Counter Earth who were rescued from certain doom when the planet was buffeted by
the ripple caused by Thanos when he toyed with reality with the Infinity
Gauntlet. Omega then rebuilt them, changing their bodies as he poisoned
their minds and souls against their creator, blaming all of their past woes on
him, and sent them, with their new augmented abilities, to kill the man.
Now more machine than men, they caught up with Wyndham, whose mind was now gone,
driven insane by witnessing the birth of a Celestial, in one of his hidden labs,
and after dispatching Nobilus and his other loyal New Men followers, attempted
to kill the High Evolutionary with their hi-tech armaments, and would have
succeeded if Adam Warlock had not been in the vicinity. Because, before
leaving Counter Earth, he had been placed as a savior figure to the people, he
caused a conflict between their duty and conscience, and the feedback killed
them when their individual brains exploded.

Thunderbird I
(Deceased) (John Proudstar) An Apache Indian turned super hero with
the mutant enhanced strength and speed but very little in the way of
invulnerability. He carried some major baggage with him about his people,
including a king sized chip on his shoulder and always felt that he had to prove
something, to himself and anyone who happened to be watching, believing that his
people were meant to be hunters and warriors not 'sad eyed simpering squaws'.
When Prof. X approached him on the Camp Verde Reservation while he was wrangling
bison with his bare hands to recruit him to his new team of X-Men, he refused
because of the color of Charles' skin, but Xavier got his to go by appealing to
his pride. He was given his new codename and a costume of unstable
molecules and sent off to rescue the old team of X-Men from Krakoa [GS UXM #1].
Her performed well, but he couldn't seem to get past his chip, so, in their next
outing as a team, against Count Nefaria and the original Ani-Men, he felt
it necessary to prove his worth and ability by taking down Nefaria in an
escaping jet fighter. Despite being told repeatedly by Banshee and Prof. X
to get off the plane, he continued his assault and died in the resultant
explosion and crash. REL: Brother of Thunderbird II. Son of Neal and Maria

GR defeated them by riding up the sides of cliffs and smashing into them with
his flame cycle, toasting them with hell-fire.

(Deceased) (see: William Carver) An ex-green beret whose

crime syndicate in his old neighborhood. Later, after he had taken a job
as an assistant to DA Tower, the man behind the small time syndicate, Jack
Smith, the Goldbug, put a hit on both he and his brother. The young boy
was killed, and, when the gunman made a second try for him at the funeral, he
struggled with the assassin and was struck by lightning and put in a coma.
The only way the doctors could see to revive him was to expose him to Stark
Industries' Cobalt Ray, but an accidental radiation leak caused his muscles to
increase so that he had substantially augmented strength and could move at
fantastic speeds. At this point he decided to become a costumed vigilante
(a yellow and blue body suit with a lightning bolt on the chest and and eye
visor) to find the man responsible for the death of his brother. REL:

Tyrk, Arisen (see:
Harrison Turk, Lunatik, Nilffim) A tyrannical king in another dimension
that was defeated by the forces of the Man-Wolf. Left for dead, he escaped
through his teleportation machine, but ended up in between realities, where his
reflection was shattered and shattered again and again until all that was left
of him was countless shards. These shards fell to Earth (becoming the
Lunatiks and Prof. Harrison Turk) and in the Tunnel World (becoming the Nilffim).
Shortly thereafter, the pieces that fell to Earth duped the Defenders into
taking them to Tunnel World to seek out the others and somehow rejoin them into
one being. The deed was done with the help of the local wizard supreme,
Xhoohx, and he became even more powerful than he was before, almost too much to
be restrained. With the help of the Defenders, the wizard subdued him and
he was left in the wizard's safe keeping in his inert state.

Unnamable One An evil
threat to the whole universe whose main purpose is to spread the blight of its
diabolical darkness across its home dimension in the Tunnel World and beyond.
Although it never appears in any tangible form, it works his evil through agents
(including the Nilffim, the Lunatiks, and most notably his second in command,
the wizard Ytitnedion). It is capable of producing storm demons and sending
them to harry or destroy its enemies but doesn't seem to take any other direct
action toward those who oppose its will. For a long period of time, the
wizard Xhoohx had opposed the spread of his blight with the Orb of Ommennon, but
after its destruction and his death, it would have run rough shod over the rest
of the world had it not been for the timely appearance of the Defenders.
Dr. Strange had identified the source of the power which he feared might envelop
the universe, and gathered to him the original Defenders to deal with the
threat. Unfortunately, the Unnamable One had the foresight to place
himself in the one place that they would never suspect, in the mind of the Hulk.
But it's hiding place was discovered, and when cornered by Strange in the
deepest recesses of the Hulk's mind, he cringed and cowered before the might of
the Sorcerer Supreme and was easily vanquished.

permanent.
First appearance: IH1 #142
Valkyrie III
The Valkyrie Brunhilde melded to the body of the insane Barbara Norris by the
Enchantress, but because of the enchantment, she is unable to raise a hand
against another woman. When the Defenders had tried to rescue the woman Barbara from
the clutches of the Nameless One, the spell Dr. Strange employed, not knowing
that she had become the demon-god's mate willingly, had torn her mind to shreds,
leaving her hopelessly insane. Upon returning to Earth, they ran afoul of
the Executioner who had thrown the Enchantress over for the local wizard queen,
Casiolena. To get revenge on the woman and to get her out of her dungeons,
she melded the spirit of the Valkyrie (as she had done with Samantha Parrington
in IH #142) with the essentially vacant body of Barbara, allowing the warrior
woman's spirit to take total control of the host, submerging her personality,
possibly permanently. After the fight which took down the wizard queen and
returned the Executioner to the Enchantress, a disgruntled Black Knight III was
turned to stone, and the Valkyrie borrowed not only his Ebony Blade but his
winged steed Aragorn as well while Dr. Strange strove to cure him. At this
point, she decided to become one of the non-team members of the Defenders.
When the Ebony Blade was returned to its rightful owner, Dr. Strange replaced it
