COM:     Spidey breaks up a bank robbery in the construction site next door and gets chased off by police who were called in by Doom, who, proceeding with Project Omega, looks in on Operation H.  Next day, Peter tries to sell his pictures at the Bugle and is informed that Spidey is out and Superman is in.  In Metropolis, after reporting on the damage wrought by the Hulk nearby, Clark and Lois return to the Galaxy Building and are informed by Mr. Edge that they need to stick with the story as he approaches the city.  Clark fakes a tremor and slides out to face the green goliath, and after a knock down drag out with Supes and Spidey, a micro-drone is found in his ear and destroyed, stopping the rampage.  The destruction however freed the Parasite from his underground cell, and he tries draining Peter, who is saved by Olsen and offered a job on the Planet.  Supes pays a visit on Doom, who he has deduced is behind all this, and only narrowly escapes his kryptonite trap, and, while Doom shows he's teamed up with Parasite, Clark takes a job in NYC at the Bugle to keep an eye on them.  He starts making a name for himself in the big apple, and he connects the robbery from the other night with what's going on.  Doom has captured Hulk, and after making a similar name for himself in a new city, Spidey locates the secret base and runs across Wonder Woman.  She is captured, and Spidey learns Doom's plan to dissolve all the fossil fuels so the world will turn to his fusion reactor for power, and Parasite, with the power absorbed from Hulk, WW, and Supes, is to be his protector.  Supes arrives, and despite the fact he managed to destroy the Adamantium robot sicced on him, both he and Spidey get captured.  The plan proceeds, and Doom has Parasite fitted with an Enervator Harness to collect the energy, with the plan of overloading him and turning him into a crystalline mass to regulate his reactor.  Parasite with some residual Spider Sense recognizes the trap and turns against Doom, and in the struggle the control panel for the reactor is destroyed.  Doom runs off, and Spidey and Supes shut down the reactor before it went critical.  Doom makes it to the safety of his consulate, and Clark sums up the whole affair to the others in Perry's office.  At story end, Peter is welcomed back to the Bugle with open arms, until he brings up the matter of a raise.  Cover by John Romita and Bob Larkin.  Back cover has original cover sketch by John Buscema.  *Characters registered by DC Comics and won't be listed in this chronology.

BY:    Jack Kirby /Jack Kirby, Herb Trimpe, John Romita, Barry Windsor Smith.
PC:   Captain America, Mister Buda/Contemplator, Freddy, Charley, Chico, Barney.
COM:   Cap is invited to visit Buda, who after rejoining his body in the Energy Pyramid, starts Cap on a journey of discovery, first sending him back to relive his days during WWII where he has to rescue Bucky from Adolf Hitler.  Upon his return, Cap is appreciative of the trip, but declines any further journeys.  However, Buda plants a Psychic Talisman on him, and on the way out, he begins to get swallowed into another hallucination.  In part 2:  Cap is on the way to deliver an address at a bicentennial luncheon, but after he discovers the mystic mark on his hand, he ends up in colonial days with Ben Franklin, Betsy Ross, and John Stacy.   They copy the design for the new American flag from his costume and he runs off in disgust, and end up in the Great Depression.  He clashes with gunsel Lefty Larkin protecting a young Jack Kirby, and then ends up in the old west.  In part 3:  Cap runs into Geronimo, and they discuss peace between their peoples.  Cap realized how close they are to the colonial revolutionaries and tries to put a halt to the attacking cavalry but gets transported again.  He finds himself in a collapsed mine in Kentucky, and after calming the miner named Gulik, he forces his way through the obstruction, saving them before disappearing again.  In part 4:   Capt finds himself in a bi-plane during WW I, and after taking out his foes, ends up back with Buda.  Cap isn't happy with this little time trip or with Buda, but he's sent along again, this time to the turn of the century fighting John L. Sullivan.  After besting him, the place is raided by the police, and Cap finds himself in the early 1800s facing slave hunters.  He is assisted by the son of John Brown in rescuing an escaped slave, and after the fight, he rides off and finds himself in Alamagordo during the first nuclear test under Gen. Halstead.  After the blast, he finds himself in Chicago during the great fire, and when he dives in the river to save one of the refugees, he finds himself in the present and winds up in an undersea research facility with a scientist named Morgan.  He then returns to Buda again, and, still not having struck on the point, gets sent off again into the future.  In part 5:  Cap is on the moon witnessing a battle, but when he investigates closer as to who is against who, it is transported again, this time into a movie set where he's accosted by Melvin Grubber and the studio mogul JB Shmeltzer, and gets involved in a patriotic musical number.  Finally, Cap's had enough and confronts Buda directly concerning the truth about the real America.  He is then whisked to see an old man living out in the boonies, then a child in the ghetto, then Buda leaves him to a bunch of children playing.  At story end, Cap learns from them the true meaning of America, where young and old can dream with the chance of making life meaningful.  Included at the end of the book are three single page illustrations of Cap in colonial times (with Red Skull as a Hessianazi), Cap in the old west, and Cap in the future all by Jack Kirby.  On the inside cover is a pin-up of Steve Rogers with all Cap's old foes wondering who he is, also by Jack Kirby.
