The Forge at Scarborough Marsh |
| Well, OK, I rarely use a real forge--although I have one--and I am not a real blacksmith. However, I can weld and I do produce some work in metal from time to time. These are some of the things I make. |
| I make the metal back rack parts and the hinges for the Morris chairs I build. In so doing, I can entirely control the look of the chair. | ![]() |

| I fabricate kitchen pot racks that are custom made for a particular kitchen. They have an industrial/commercial look. As their look suggests, the emphasis is on functional and adaptable. The rack bolts directly to the framing above the ceiling. This way, the rack can hold virually any weight of kitchen tools. The rack can be straight, angled or curved, to suit circumstances. The hooks that support kitchen implements are also custom made so they can be any length or special shape required to hang any particular pot. | ![]() |

I make stools with welded legs and welded wine racks. The stools have the advantage that the rungs do not come loose with seasonal wood movement. Also, they are heavy and do not tip over easily. The wine racks have the advantage that since they are made of long pieces of 3/8" steel rod, they will hold any weight and they can be made to fit any size space. |

I have made custom fireplace tools, such as the one above. It is a rake that I use with my wood stove to rake the ashes through the grate. Once I have pulled the ash pan out from under the grate, the rake is custom made to clean the area around the ash pan before it is reinstalled. I designed the lamp to be the right height for creating reading light when placed on an end table. It is difficult to find an off-the-peg lamp that will do this perfectly for a particular situation.

I have made closet door handles and ring pulls for drawers. While I can use any style of drawer pull that a customer wants, quite a number of people like the idea that the pulls are hand made by the same guy who made the piece of furniture. | ![]() |
What the hell is this thing? To give you the scale, the two bolts sticking up through the bottom are 3/8 X 2"long. Answer below.
Answer: It is a small outboard motor mount for a Hobiecat catamaran. The oval part bolts around a similarly shaped part of the boat and the wooden part is a transome for mounting the motor. |
